Pretty sure Ubisoft prices their shit to capture people with FOMO and then when they slash the hell out of their prices to sell more, that's basically their actual competitive pricing. If not, they should've gone belly up by now with the way their prices drop like rocks any time a sale comes up shortly after release.

Codex Year of the Donut
This is 80% off atm. Is the base game worth playing by itself?
I would say no because the DLCs really change how you play and add a lot of content

but there is a DLC unlocker piracy tool, if you buy the base game I think you can play all the DLCs for free
Does this work for achievements and such? Wouldn't Steam easily be able to tell if I have achievement associated with the DLC, without having the DLC purchased?

Since the team is now moving towards full development of Anno 117: Pax Romana, a title I'm sure will please Denim Destroyer who earlier in this thread suggested the Roman sequel, the last content for this game has now been released. After all these years they're moving in on Impressions old territory, whose apex was Pharaoh, Zeus and the Caesar trilogy. With Ubisoft bleeding money though it might be a shaky development ride, and I wouldn't expect the same level of long-term support for this new game if the beached whale that is Ubisoft explodes after another AAAA flop.

I wouldn't get up any hopes of this coming to GOG or be rid of the Ubisoft launcher anytime soon though, Anno 2070 is still trapped within Ubisoft's ecosystem and it has kept me from replacing Anno 1404 as my go-to comfort game with a later entry. Was going to ask if it might be worth going through the trouble of an Ubisoft account now that it is finally feature and content complete, picking it up during a sale when they inevitably bundle it all for a reasonable priced edition later or just using an unlocker. Reading this thread though I'm wondering if I didn't miss out on Anno 2070 instead, cvv made a good case for that futuristic step of the series that never clicked with the audience.

I for one never had any problems with different launchers installed on my PC. It just never bothered me. Uplay was p. shitty 10 years ago but it's been a standard launcher for years now, no reason to worry.

I've reviewed what I said about 2070 ITT and there isn't much to add. It's not as cute and cozy as 1404 but mechanically it's still the best Anno in my book. I really loved the meta-layer with levelling your factions, doing dailies, getting new upgrades, tech, weapons and so on on level ups. Plus each faction playing differently and sometimes supporting each other in some scenarios. Such a shame Bluebyte never went back to that mechanics. (Maybe with 117 but I'm not holding my breath; I expect another barebones, stripped down sandbox on launch, with proper content being piecemeal added in the following years.)

Just get the base game and "unlock" the rest of the stuff, since is all on the game already.

It's $40 for the gold edition that includes all gameplay DLCs, or $52 for the definitive edition that also includes all the cosmetic DLCs. Only on Ubisoft store though, because of the 20% off code.
