Some early impressions here:
The demo gives a rather basic (maybe too basic) idea of what the game will be like, it only shows off a few dialogues, a sample of the combat system, and a very general idea of the setting. Can't even get a proper feel of the ruleset, since the general skills are locked for the demo. I guess the Let's Play AoD threads on ITF will have to do for all the other aspects for now.
Right, moving on to the demo. The combat is decent, feels very Fallout-y. I played with an axe-centered build first and that was OK, but I had the most fun with a bow (though truth be told I only played the first two battles with a bow-wielding char). It's funny to pick an opponent apart from a distance. Hitting arms makes them drop their weapons, hitting legs slows them down etc. Got a critical hit to the head and the guy collapsed in a pool of blood. Nice stuff!
What would have been nice: some floating tool tips for buttons, it took me a bit to figure out which button ends the turn and where my HP and AP are. Also, at high-res, fonts are a bit too small.
Graphics and sound: the game looks better than in screenshots, definitely better than I expected. The sound effects are kind of muted for some reason. And the volume is turned all the way up, dunno if it's a bug or not. Still, the audiovisual presentation is surprisingly good overall.
Now for the really bad things: the camera sucks, plain and simple (seriously, the much scorned NWN2 camera is better). It just feels sluggish and I never feel like it's where I want it to be.
Also, I get poor performance. I'm currently playing Mirror's Edge at 1680x1050 with medium details and it runs flawlessly, yet your game chugs along at 20-25 fps on the same resolution. Not to mention that the framerate dramatically drops when entering a house (you know, when that hide roof effect occurs) and it persists for the entire time I stay in-house. Seems like the game needs further optimization.
In terms of bugs, crashes, graphics corruption etc. there's nothing to report. I had none of those issues, and the game even responds to alt-tabbing.
You guys have got an interesting game here, the demo swayed me towards purchasing it when it comes out. But it seems to me you've got plenty of optimization to do until that happens.
P.S.: The writing in the demo was very good. The death screen was actually intimidating. :D
