Why these guards didn't pin down these crossbowmen by theirs shields. Also in combat like that there was a lot of space for slicing throat from behind.

Kinda wonder why these crossbowmen newer bothered with a backup weapon.

VD if you'd be at the position of that AI that did that stupidity, what would you do?

You folks don't have much experience with a real world combat. The real world combat is either a lot shorter, or a lot longer.

Well it's not half as ugly as I expected, and the music isn't that much of a big deal unless you're a hipster faggot. Next thing you'll be complaining about voice acting or grass not growing or other stupid shit...The combat seemed a bit too long, but if the mechanics are well done (especially balancing the ranged weapons) it might be entertaining after all. If the purchase method will be available in the land of all possibilities and dragons, I'll buy it, after testing the demo version of course.

Yeah, shame on them for not being real warriors, it sucks. But hopefully they do have experience with turn-based combat, since AoD is a game and not a training facility.

It's true. RPGs are about music. The rest is just a candy wrapper. A true connoisseur will grind for hours to enjoy a delightful midi tune.

I can understand that you're a little annoyed by the complaints...
Not at all. I don't like the music. The pattern is too repetitive and annoying

Just get rid of the strings, the percussion part is pretty good and works well by itself, especially during fights.

Also, the problem I have with the ambient music is that it's very distracting.

Learn from the Total War series. In Shogun and Medieval, the campaign map songs were composed just of brief musical notes followed by long pauses of ambient sounds.

Consider ambient noise instead of music. Pots breaking, people talking, money getting exchanged, wood cutting. These are a lot better for the atmosphere than music. As for the music, if you don't have a big budget or ability in this area, consider keeping it subtle, keep it from distracting the player.

Sometimes silence is a lot better than filler music. Musicians always get embarrassed by empty music sheets and can't help themselves from filling the silence with something - anything! - but as I said keep it simply and subtle.

And please, please get rid of that harpsichord or nylon guitar or whatever. You know of what I speak of... ;)

I think there's a way to fix the music: currenlty it is like this "duddudududdudu" ... this is how it should be "did didi di di" " di di di " "di di diiiiiii" "dududududdudu" you have to build up a momentum first with low noise music and then unleash the DU DU DUs then you go back to the di di dii's again.

How does stealth/sneaking work in AoD?
When you're sneaking, your skill (modified by shield/armor) is checked against NPC's Perception modified by the distance. NPCs either spot you right away, or hear something and go to investigate (and the closer they get the higher the chance to spot you), or they are completely unaware of your presence.

There is no noise meter or other advanced mechanics.

You might be confusing him if you keep using the word "strings." ;)

But no, what I meant was, what do you say to him? Are you like, "here's the general mood we're looking for, now start writing" and then he sends you stuff and you tell him what to change?
Something like that. We explained the setting, the mood, gave examples, etc, but when it comes to music it's much harder to explain what exactly needs to be changed and how. Take the feedback for this video, for example. Many people like it and think that it's great and adds to the atmosphere. Many people dislike it and think that it ruins the atmosphere.

Anyway, we're still working with the guy, so the tracks will definitely be tweaked.

VD, if I'm not mistaken, music for combat demo was written by Lind Erebros, guy who has also worked on Katauri's King's Bounty? Is he the author of the music from the latest video too?

Well, if we had the money, I would have loved to have Morgan working with us.

Could you throw in some numbers or the full algo/code? You know, could a Sneak 84 assassin stand directly in the adjacent square near a Perception 5 dude?

How does stealing behave? Can you steal everything a merchant has, including equiped items? Is it in his inventory or laid down on a table or in some chest? How does the engine assign property of objects?

You use different composers?

Lind hasn't been working with us for ages. Plus not all the tracks he made fit the game.

Merida, again
You should have a contest VD. Allow for Codex submissions of sample music and pick the best. The winner gets to play the game before anyone else.

I see. Thanks for answering.
Lind made (wrote? composed? did his music thing?) many tracks for us (I think he did 7 combat ones and 11 or 12 non-combat ones, but I don't remember for sure now), but not all of them fit the game.

We are now working with another composer, who did the tracks (wip) we used in the new video.

Don't have time to dig for the formulas, maybe later. Nobody can stand (well, crouch) in front of a person and remain invisible. You have to be at least a few squares away, if you're good and he's near blind (Per 5).

Everything but the equipped items. Literally stealing everything is unlikely though as most merchants have guards.

Is it in his inventory or laid down on a table or in some chest? How does the engine assign property of objects?
Inventory.

As if the Codex can ever agree on anything.

I must admit that the lack of a noise meter bugs me.
About the combat I too felt it was too long, but is just a demo ,right?
Here a suggestion about what type of music to use.:
