Maybe the dev is the real archmageWait, this game will launch? What kind of sorcery is that?
This week we’d like to show you our new World Generation system. It can build much larger and more interesting worlds than before, and we’ll be able to expand it over time so that you get many more options than the previous system was capable of.
Learn more in the video above and join the conversation on our Steam forums here.
Today we get to show you some of what we’re doing to improve the experience in buildings and in conversations.
We’ll be diving more into the Conversations System in a future update video as we start adding in more options and can show you more of what the system is capable of. We also have some new tooling that we can talk about soon that we’re using internally to set up traits, enemies, spells, custom questlines, and all other designer data in the game.
This week we take a look at two ways you can produce valuables to increase your prestige and improve your standing among the nobles.
As you make your way across the world, you’re likely to wish you could leave reminders for yourself along the way. You’ll now be able to both add notes to the your map and keep track of broader information in a personal player journal.
We’ve been working on tools for editing everything in the game so that we can give you updates and new content for Archmage Rises more often. It allows us to access and edit all data in the game that we specially mark in the code.

You can watch the seasons shift about you as time passes, both as an indication that the world is changing and to help you keep track of your own time in the world.

Funny, I have only watched the first 10 or so videos and decided to wait for the game so I could find out things by playing it. I guess that was not a good idea.I am like 50 update videos behind now. Oh wow.

This week, we share the beginning of our quest designer. You might remember Thomas demonstrating the Bard tooling in an early video; we’re moving that tool forward to work with our latest systems and let designers create new quests rapidly that you’ll be able to come across in the game.

It’s been a few months since my last studio update, and many things have happened!
Studio News
- For about a year, I’ve been talking with a senior game engineer, wooing him to join our crazy team. He has plenty of experience and we’re narrowing in on a possible start date. If we go forward, this will help a lot in getting this game out the door.
- As our focus starts to turn from tech to content, I’m in discussions with a lead writer for dialogue and lore.
- We will be ramping up our presence, to this end we are partnering with a small fresh streamer to see how this goes. More streamers to follow.
- We’re looking for a new senior/lead artist.
- I’ve recently closed a deal to sell one of my companies. It has been for sale for over a year so it was a bit surprising a deal came together so suddenly. This buys us some more time on the game.
Next Build: End of Oct
As I previous wrote, Build 14 is the last major build before we release to early access. The last two major components to complete for build 14 to be playable are:
Unfortunately we’ve been stalled on the Quest Systems for about 8 weeks. It’s chewing us up and spitting out our bones! As of this writing, I don’t even know how much effort it will take to get it working. I think end of Oct is still reasonable, we’ll see.
- Quest Systems
- NPCs feeling alive and interactive
(This is why you don’t announce dates until all your tech is in place… [face palm])
Early Access: Mid - Late April 2023
Valve/Steam recently announced moving a sale to mid March 2023… making it ridiculous to try and launch a game then. How dare they! We have to delay our launch about 4 weeks to mid April.
Our Early Access plan has changed based on research into Hades Early Access experience. We will make monthly updates for probably a year. I’m still mapping this out, but this looks more realistic.
