The one thing i don't like is that the refill station makes it obvious you're going to fight a boss. Even in some missions where you get ambushed by unknown acs, that element gets ruined cause there's a refill station right before that event.

Actually, apparently there’s even more unlocks in ng plus, so maybe I just need to go deeper :)
I've heard there's new stuff unlocking even in NG++. But yeah, I agree with everything else you want. I think they'd be foolish to not do a hefty expansion with a new or expanded campaign.

Most importantly, I just hope the relative success of this means more Armored Core for the indefinite future.

Both Balteus and Sea Spider were piss easy for me on my light build. For Balteus I used dual shotguns and dual missiles and straight up bullied him, he couldn't even pick himself up. The spider is beatable doom-style where you just circle strafe him on a light build and hit him with a sword when he's weak. The infamous retarded fromhitboxes curse is very present in this game as well though, you can very cleanly and unambiguosly dodge his laser shots and they'll still hit you somehow, or be miles away from his stomp and sometimes it will still count as being hit. How they've been making these games for a decade now and still have this problem is baffling.

There’s no I-frames and the spider encourages you to QB during assault boosts to avoid lasers for free melee. Lasers are there to hit ground strafers as well as homing missiles…and all melee auto tracks and even has free boost too.

I feel like mouse and keyboard for this game is a way better option than controllers. Not sure why you'd use a controller when you're needing to aim like an fps.

Played a lot more, and I can't believe I'm going to say this about a From game, but it's kind of dull. It very much feels like a Playstation 2 era game, only with better graphics. The levels are overly simple and short. You just just go in, kill some stuff or a boss, and it ends. Usually From games grab me and I can't stop, but there's no sense of exploration in this. It's just a bunch of short, shitty, levels. The only fun thing is the bosses.

I’m playing on a DS3 and with proper FCS + arms the lock on auto tracks and I can focus on gun management and moving around. I guess it’s intentional.

Quick question: is there anything to be gained by S ranking every mission - other than money, of course - before moving onto the next chapter in the story or before finishing the game? If not, I was thinking to save it for NG+. Just wondering if it unlocks extra content or extra mecha parts.

So i decided to remove it from inventory for now to at least test it. Performance is perfect on my 5700XT so at least there's that. FromSoft games just aren't really that great geaphically they always rely on art direction and this is no exception. One thing that bugs is that there's some blur while moving even though i disabled motion blur and depth of field. The included AA isn't that great either so even while standing still there's still jaggies and stuff. Not a big deal but the visuals aren't as crisp on my end as they looked in the promos maybe i can use super resolution to bump the AA a bit more. Also, no Ray Tracing for me. Sadness.

Any way made it past the elicopter and i can see why people are having an hard time with it if they never played an AC game before. I don't think it's a skill issue even with normies it's likely that they are getting confused since this is a completely different beast from Souls and plays nothing like it. Since i played AC1 i just instinctively did what i used to do there, just shoot the thing then boost next to it to slice and dice it with the sword while weapons were reloading. Fight was quick and didn't feel like Souls at all. I still got disoriented a few times when the thing moved behind me and couldn't see it and also a couple of times i ran into what seemed to be an invisible wall which i didn't like (that shit was in Elden Ring too *cough* Fire Giant *cough* so i'm sure it will be a recurrent problem).

This is something i'm conflicted about.

Levels were like that in AC1 too and didn't feel like it was a problem there but not sure if it's going to bother me in a modern FromSoft game.

The game feels is like a combat flight sim except with mechs instead of airplanes. Missions are short and replayable. Mission milage is milked by trying to S rank them and also experimenting through mech customization. NG+ and beyond also make a lot more sense for a game like this than something like Elden Ring (which takes five billion hours just to get through normal game).

That's what I've been doing, and I think what is encouraged by the game.

This is completely intentional and a sure indication they wanted to replicate the flow of the earlier games in the series. If it's not for you, so be it. But the mission structure is the way it is for a reason. There are little ways to explore and find hidden things throughout a lot of them, and it's in fact much better in this installment than a lot of others, but it's not the core of the gameplay. This isn't a dungeon crawler like the Souls games are. I'm a great fan of exploration in games - particularly the FromSoft games that you mention - but it simply isn't the focus in Armored Core. A lot of people going into it without any idea of what the series is about are going to be equally disappointed. I, for one, am thrilled they decided to hold true to the series name.

Also, the missions that don't have a boss fight get more involved later on, but not by a large degree. A lot of times they serve as a nice bit of downtime to test your new builds and endurance. It's a great change of pace, particularly in this game where the boss encounters can be so demanding.

I gotta agree with this.
From everything I have seen, this is just a very PS2-era console game. At a high level of quality, so good for those who want that kind of throwback, but still.

It just doesn't look interesting to me at all. Mechs go zoom, but not even the weighty, technical stuff like MechWarrior or BattleTech.

These games have always existed in tandem. And both iterations have something worthwhile to give, like a TB and a Real-time blobber.

The latest iterations of Battletech/mechwarrior have also not been great on the "technical" side, it being streamlined to ass with Hardpoints. (BattleTech Advanced 3062 is good though)

I wish there were more missions where you had allies, that one near the beginning with the Redguns felt fun even though they did fuck all.

Right, but heavily modded, they can be pretty good (except BattleTech will never not have abysmal loading times and slow AF turns).
Because what they lack mostly is meat on the bare bones.

I don't think AC could ever be modded into something I'd really enjoy playing for more than a few hours.
