I love supporting the Russian propaganda machine against Ukraine!!! I'm not even going to play the game. I just wanted to give money directly to Russia to help them win the war!

Im going to sit with the lights off in my underwear eating cold tomato soup with the windows open. I live in ohio so i might freeze to death. That way ill feel closer to mother russia. Then ill start playing

Also Russia may be able to access you location and IP address if you play this game. Play at your own risk I guess

I hope they get my ip and a hot Russian massive mommy comes and crushes me

The game has triggered some thought provoking discussions online.

I just checked steam and it only has three reviews so far. What's going on here? Is it not actually out in most regions yet or something?

Yeah, I dunno either since there's a fair amount of people in-game. Maybe people are doing the sensible thing and waiting until finishing before leaving a review? :smug:

Aaaaaand they're trying to review bomb the game on Steam. That's probably the reason review counts are fucked up.

i've noticed that a few weapons use the same exact sound assets from mw2019 - in specific, the akm

either iw and mundfish bought the same weapon sound library, or someone at mundfish is naughty))))))). i have no idea if the actual sound itself was recorded by a sound artist at iw, or if it originally comes from a library that you can buy

Watching a stream of this. This game looks Reddit. Unfunny Bethesda Fallout style dialogue. If it wasn't for butthurt journos then everyone would already have this game fingered as a soy Bioshock clone. I suspect the shit about Ukraine was a marketing ploy, like when journos said Joker 2019 was incel propaganda. I bet The Quartering and Mundane Matt would've made dozens of videos about this nontroversy by now if they were still around.

BTW, I have been watching this stream for an hour and they're still being forced to sit through railroad cutscenes. The game itself has not started yet. lmao. Imagine Half-Life 2 but the game starts with Black Mesa East and it's five times as long.

The intro isn't nearly as long as you're claiming.

Played a couple of hours. The set pieces are nice, and the gameplay seems ok so far. The voice acting is terrible though. How do you make a game about an alternate reality Soviet Union and not use Russian voice actors?

Can I just say how pleased I was to see a proper crouch and jumping mechanic in a FPS, there are quite a few times when you have to jump around like in Half life and you must be accurate in your jump timing or you will fall. It really feels good when you nail them jumps and complete a section, I noticed a few reviewers hating this mechanic, one called them frustrating FPS platformer levels...well all I can say to that it you play too many shitty AAA games where jumping is as simple as turning up and pressing a button :) This is proper old school jumping and it's great.

The game peaked at around 20k players on Steam, and is currently sitting at 88% "very positive" rating. Pretty big success for something available on gay pass day 1. Funny, most of the bad reviews are about the lack of raytracing rather than politics.

Yes, but I was hoping they'd still use Russian voice actors for the English VO. I prefer not to have subtitles on.

Hmmm. It's on game pass, and game pass is fucking cheap for 1 month sub right now. Might actually buy game pass for the first time, very cheap to play this game, and not shell out 60 euros+ for it.

Yeah im going in.

After playing the first 5h The game is pretty much what I expected extremely trashy but loveable Russian Bioshock. I'm surprised they turned this vaporware scam into a decent game.

GMan's review seems to be fairly impartial, doesn't mention politics/le war at all, only talks about what actually matters which is the content and quality of the game:

Should be noted that this guy is not a very prestigious source (IIRC he thinks Thief 3 was good).

Pros:
  • Good graphics
  • Good art style
  • Good overall gameplay
  • Good AK and Rocket Launcher
  • Most unique thing he's played in a while, compares it to Scorn
Cons:
  • Characters that don't know when to shut up, similar to all the other games that do cancerous dialogue in that vein like Forspoken. Too much dialogue, a lot of stunted and possibly badly translated lines
  • Bad bosses, recycled bad bosses in multiple areas, the bosses are all beaten in the same way no matter your build
  • The "Plasmid"-type attacks are lackluster, with the exception of the Freeze one being overpowered
  • Filled with unskippable minigames for hacking, lockpicking, etc., you don't even get upgrades to reduce time spent in these minigames, some minigames are entirely RNG dependant
  • Lacks interactivity, can't hack security cameras or interact with much in the world
  • Buggy and janky (expected because eurojank)
Seems like a fairly standard fare action RPG FPS hybrid popamole, he also mentions it just feels more like an FPS with RPG elements than it does an "immersive sim" despite the game containing references to BioShock (I do not consider BioShock an immersive sim but some people seem to) and Looking Glass Studios' games.

So another case of a bunch of artists and coders banding toghether to make a video game while having no actual idea how to do it. Many such cases. At least this one seems to have some actual gameplay unlike that Scorn shit.

The English voice acting is truly bad its not even funny. The setup isnt bad and I understand what they were going for, hell it's even mentioned in the long intro about old soviet sci-fi books. Having read some of them I got the connection, whats paying homage to what story.
Still, the only way to play it is the true Russian experience and not pay any cent to capitalistic oligarchs and just download it without Denuvo.
