Shall we simplify this? I think so.

This is a reunion show starring some of your favorite characters, but without any of the original production staff, and the replacements are just whoever the studio could grab from the hallway on short notice in order to make a quick cash-in. So, the usual sort of reunion show, with poor direction, poor arrangement, technical errors like the boom showing, and all the rest, with only numerous references to the original and the old cast to counterbalance the ineptitude.

But if you half close your eyes and pretend really hard, and you're a little simple-minded, you might be able to make yourself believe it's 1999 again. Same as any other reunion show.

So basically it's the Force Awakens.

Hmm I wonder if Beamdog decided to rape canon because they couldn't abide that a rapist didn't get his onscreen comeuppance.

There's an inappropriate quote at the start of Baldur's Gate that would describe this situation. :smug:

Problem is, the developers started preaching outside of the game, telling everybody how they must fix problems and how they're trying to use such characters as much as possible, that even if those lines didn't sound preachy now it's hard to not see them as such.

Yeah, this is possibly what is triggering me the most TBH. Knowing the intent and all that just pisses me off.

If they'd just included a line of dialogue where you could tell the tranny to fuck off, it would have softened it a lot.
That's another thing. You could always be a snarky cunt to people in BG games.

The conversations with the new single mother womyn companion seem to lack that type of option too.
Oh my god Corwin is atrocious. At first I thought she could be OK but then she wen't all balistic on me and how she thought higher of my CHARNAME, muh duty to the Baldur's Gate, what will people say when they'll find out you are a child of bhaal? Etc, etc. She tells you to be diplomatic and speak with the BigBadEvilWoman, when you do that and tell her that you can see the point the BBEW is making she goes DONT TELL ME YOU BELIEVE THAT BULLSHIT. When you propose to assasinate the BBEW she calls you dishonourable and just forces you to go "diplomatic"

Bipolar at best, definitively not stronk wommyn.
Sounds like a realistic woman

Jesus christ, the way Beamdog PR keeps pouring gasoline on the fire is just hilarious.

This whole mess is disgusting, all of it, both sides. All of you people make me fucking sick. It's a shame that this legendary game will now most likely be forever linked to some retarded "culture wars" bullshit that was inflated to ridiculous proportions thanks to the internet. Nothing is good anymore, everything is poisoned. Small and insignificant as it may be, it's just another thing on the pile of reasons of why I should move to a cabin in the mountains or join some monastery in the east. More noise from a troubled world.

I've been to the a monastery in the east, it's overrated, the Codex is far more entertaining.

There's a certain enlightenment you find when engaged in adversarial situations if you manage to maintain cognitive function.

Hee, d&d has survived witchcraft controversies, demon worship controversies, drug use controversies, and teen suicide controversies, with many of those involving multiple court cases. A couple weeks of internet insults is nothing compared to those, and so isn't going to harm the legacy of one of its top selling games.

It's crazy what they're doing at Beamdog.

This whole thing would have blown over quite quickly if they just apologized for a bad joke to the fanbase and released a generic PR statement.

Instead, they directly antagonize the core fanbase again and again and again. I truly believe, nothing would have come of this if Amber Scott didn't open her mouth.

You have one of the most beloved video game franchises in history. You have one of the loyalist fanbases possible, allowing you to sell 1 million copies of shitty repackages of 15-18 year old games. You have an engine, combat system, characters. You know where the story is supposed to begin and end.

How is it possible to fuck something like that up?

Marketing 101, don't insult your core fanbase. Marketing 102, don't double down on it once you do.

The next big drama thread will be when we end up publishing a fairly positive review
Is this just a hypothesis, or do you already somehow know it's going to be fairly positive? ;)

I saw it coming from the first twitch stream, even though I didn't know about her blog. But I didn't want to judge the book by the cover, and I didn't want to be attacked by people with high expectations of SoD if I had directly asked "Who is the tumblrina with the dumb hat and who allowed her to write for the game"? I admit at first it was difficult to tell if it's a man or a woman - also known as "imposing my heteronormativity" - which is always a bad sign.

Nah, I think you're being overly dramatic. They won't be able to smear the BG series forever. Their expansion however will remain an example of how out of place activisim mixed with lack of talent can ruin the experience in an entertainment product.

From the blog btw:
Men: Women just don’t understand how important sex is to men and how we NEED it and how sex is a biological impulse for us that can’t be ignored it’s the most important thing EVER.

Men: *consistently depict personified lust as female*
But how can we help it:

((There’s a trans character in this game. Just right there. One of the supporting clerics. Why can’t I have her in my party? I can always use another cleric.))

The last part is somewhat true. There are only 2 clerics in game - you either have to deal with Viconia's tantrums, or with a homognome. There are no alternatives.
Again, bad composition in joinable companions.

(Yea I know I know, I'm just making points beyond fact that everything on that link is awful)
