I honestly can't imagine who can unironically prefer copycats like Pillars to the original games like BG they are trying to imitate. Probably zoomers who weren't alive back then when the games were released? Pillars is literally worse than BGs in every possible aspect except for fancy graphics and muh atmasfere. Is fancy graphics the thing you actually need from RPG?

You realize you are replying to one of the numerous sleeper retard accounts created by people who got mentally stuck in 2001 and think acting dumb on the internet is a cool pastime?

The Endless Paths of Od Nua invites all sorts of energetic adventurers, not just the lonely depressed sages.

lmao, "The Endless Paths" is just aping of "Watcher's Keep" from BG2. And a very poor one.
Somebody hasn't been paying attention.
Watcher's Keep formula is a rehash of Diablo's going deeper into Hell concept which itself was first stylized in the game Rogue.
Endless Path is actually better than (worse too) Watcher's Keep in many senses including the conspicuous lack of "scientific demons" which sounded very retarded indeed.

Pillars is closer to Icewind Dale/Planescape Torment than BG/BG2.

Pillars is literally better than BG2 in almost every aspect except variety.

BG2 is not vastly overrated. In retrospect we can pick at its player perceived flaws, but nothing for nothing folks, it was tons of fun at its time of release. Irenicus as the antagonist was awesome. Think back to the times…. Who else wore masks but the scariest and coolest villians of that time….Jason, Michael, The Limper! Irenicus was a good choice for a master villain.

It was also the first AD&D game with kit choices, improving player options for class choice. What other high level AD&D game was out there utilizing spells like Time Stop and including Holy Avengers and implementing Dragon combat the right way instead of their dumbed-down variants of the Goldbox games. They even got mage combat headed in the right direction. You battled Beholders, Mind Flayers and visited a fricking Drow City. The game was a winner for sure…..

I like Baldur's Gate II. You sound like an aspiring video gaming journalist, do you need tips to beat it?
No thanks. You're profoundly mistaken if you think I'm in the same league as Anita Sarkessian. Her grave comments on masculinity have nothing to do with my critical evaluation of video game designs.
No need to sell yourself short. You should make Youtube videos. I think that will help to convince people, that may have difficulties to follow your arguments here. RPGCodex is much too small and doesn't have the reach required to change the outlook of people on Baldur's Gate 2.

Minsc himself is the greatest proof that D&D and the seriousness of the setting were a comedy to the developer.

that D&D and the seriousness of the setting
Eh?
I don't know about that. I guess that Greyhawk is a more serious D&D setting. It was pure sword&sorcery Gygax awesomeness. Had a lot of dark elements and characters - Vecna, Iuz, to name only a few. The Greyhawk Wars.
But Forgotten Realms is Ed Greenwood's magical realm. To be honest, the games that have been created as a result of that setting are REALLY tame compared to some of his fetishes he inserted in his setting.
Still, Baldur's Gate is Baldur's Gate, one of the greatest cRPG's ever made.

I agree, the Malaugrym in example seem to be based on the Japanese tentacle monsters. At least, that's the impression I got when reading one of his books. It's pretty serious based on being a medieval world.

And yes, BG I is the best RPG ever. Killing Sarevok actually mattered to me.

Pillars 1 is mostly gloom and doom

Eh?

In a supposed wretched land where soulless babies are born and people killed at birth everyone was treating me with a generic "How may I be of assistance Sir?". Writing is poor and did not support this gloom and doom notion at all.

I remember playing a Death Godlike and encountering absolutely no reaction. I was an abomination that's chased out of town by a pitchfork-wielding mob? It seems not, 'cause all I got during the entire game was one kid asking me if I can see properly

Agreed. So much potential wasted in Pillars 1. Tons of writing, 99% of it is fluff. Unfortunate. I still enjoyed it but it could of been so much more….

IE game fans should get tagged so people know they're interacting with a retard.
The ancient Greeks, whose wisdom is unquestionable, speak of a legend where a foolish woman would open a box and unleash unspeakable evils onto the world. That box was Bioware. We've had over two decades of RtwP dating sim horseshite when we could have been playing the current iteration of SSI's Dark Sun and Trokia's Greyhawk right now. Fuck you Bioware. Fuck you RtwP tards. And fuck you purple-haired polyamorous degenerates.

I agree it was really glittery in the time when it was released but the way that each and every aspect of the game is so intensely praised by basement dwellers on all fora across the internet is annoying.
It's sadly mediocre in every thing except variety.
I see that you are another fapper to Timestop and BG2 Dragons.
I have nothing more to say that they weren't even close to being realistic. Fun sure, but then we had dragons in Icewind Dales too. Harder and more fun than BG2 dragons.

No coherent argument except

1. BG2 was released 20 years ago! Have some mercy on it!
2. BG2 was muh fun!
3. BG2 was muh grand!

Do you guys have any argument at all except namecalling and muh nostalgia?
