Baldur's Gate Baldur's Gate 2 is vastly overrated

Pillars 1 is mostly gloom and doom

Eh?

In a supposed wretched land where soulless babies are born and people killed at birth everyone was treating me with a generic "How may I be of assistance Sir?". Writing is poor and did not support this gloom and doom notion at all.

I remember playing a Death Godlike and encountering absolutely no reaction. I was an abomination that's chased out of town by a pitchfork-wielding mob? It seems not, 'cause all I got during the entire game was one kid asking me if I can see properly
Agreed. So much potential wasted in Pillars 1. Tons of writing, 99% of it is fluff. Unfortunate. I still enjoyed it but it could of been so much more….
I could say the same for BG2.
Irenicus was handled laughably.
Most quests were filler.
Most writing was useless. I am pretty sure that those who enjoy Jansen's stories and Minsc's writings are stuck in their 12 year old selves.
No motivation except for hunting for a sister taken by an Eldritch Horror, (who could have easily done whatever he wanted with them)
No explanation of how Irenicus spared the charname when he was demonstrably superior to Cowled Gendarmes.

Pillars 1's dialogues (Eder's musings on morality and Waiden, Aloth's comments on magic and animancy, Pallegina's comments on politics, Hiravas's musings on the wilderness and sex, a man's needs, Griveing Mother's tragic stories) were far more valuable than the useless banter of BG2's companions.
Solving the hollowborn crisis is far more pressing than hunting for a barely speaking sister taken by a supremely powerful wizard whom you can't hope to defeat and then spending an eternity scrounging for money.

only reason they like BG2 and other IE games is because they were 13 at the time and it reminds them of their mom's cooking and having friends
same reason the exact same people like morrowcringe

objectively terrible games but it's hard to overcome the power of nostalgia

Named NPCs were still more bothered by the hollowborn than anyone in BG2's adminstration, was bothered by Liches/Irenicus/Beholders under the city.

Well, did you get more severe reactions by being a half-orc in BG2? or a Vampiress?
Death Godlike had been a part of the area for several centuries. And obviously not every city dweller will scrounge disgust at you.

The ancient Greeks, whose wisdom is unquestionable, speak of a legend where a foolish woman would open a box and unleash unspeakable evils onto the world. That box was Bioware. We've had over two decades of RtwP dating sim horseshite when we could have been playing the current iteration of SSI's Dark Sun and Trokia's Greyhawk right now. Fuck you Bioware. Fuck you RtwP tards. And fuck you purple-haired polyamorous degenerates.
The Codex should filter prospective members with one simple question: Do you reject Bioware and all its works? +M

Currently playing NWN and while I'm still at the beginning (quell prison uprising) the gameplay is super boring. I just afk while my paladin kills groups of mobs, and there a lots of them.

I was in my 20s when I played the BGs. They're awesome because they are awesome.

The ES series sucks.

You newbies are pathetic, but good trolling by yas.

NWN is awesome.

DEAL WITH THESE FACTZ.

Nostalgia is a well-known cope of normies such as yourself.

You rage quit Underrail because it was too difficult, then called it nostalgia. The truth is, these games made your brain hurt. Morrowind is particularly dangerous because it may overstimulate your brain with unknown sounds and bright colors.

I would rather replay nvn1 with its horrid camera than bg1 with its horrid well everything
NWN is absolutely atrocious to play, the only redeeming quality back then was how easy it was to setup online custom campaign/server.
The games look like shit, play like shit and even run like shit. There is no strategic layer whatsoever, nor option to larp whatever class you took, as 90% of the game are fetch quest. Party building is a joke, companions are all boring anyway, and the AI is retarded. I would rather play any other beware games, even DA2 or 3, or jade empire, or whatever really.

The NWN OC could be better, its still enjoyable and I would recommend you get involved in combat because it make things more exciting

But the expansions are loads of fun, especially Underdark

I mean, I try, but I have no combat actions to use except for autohit, so it takes usually a couple minutes to decimate a group of escaped convicts. Smite evil doesn't work on them either as apparently murdering hobo convincts are good/neutral?

Reminds me of an MMO a lot.

I enjoyed it a lot. But the early game 'character begins walking to you to initiate a new quest' was rage fuel. Only time I can ever recall loading a save to prevent yet another quest initiation.

The BG saga is the quintessential D&D experience for a real-life party of one. Everything is crafted with detail and care that we rarely experience in any other games of any genre. The visual are excellent and timeless. The UI is attractive and intuitive. The innovative pseudo-turn-based with pause makes for gripping combat that can be simultaneously ponderous. Its spellcasting is still unrivalled in any CRPG to date. The itemization is exceptional. The breadth and quality of quests are astonishing. Unseeing Eye, anyone? Planar Sphere, anybody? Ever been to Umar, pal? What about Baldur's Gate itself? I dare anyone to claim Durlag's Tower isn't the greatest CRPG dungeon ever. Never has such a broad scope of interesting quests and exploration coherently been placed into one package (or two). Even the soundtrack is respectable--particularly for the Throne of Bhaal expansion. This series pioneered the distinctive and reactive NPC that has become a staple of the genre. Few CRPGs have gotten so much so right. It withstands the test of time functionally, aesthetically, and thematically. Its plots can employ both seriousness and levity without suffering a loss of identity or descending into pretentiousness. The BG saga is a titan of the industry and genre, edgelords be damned.
