How does this affect dialogue with other NPCs? Does the game only register the first three of your companions as party members or does it consider everyone to be present?

Seconding this question.

That's really great, I was concerned that the two additional members wouldn't be fully acknowledged by the game but it seems like they can still participate in NPC dialogue when applicable. I guess running 6 man parties won't be an issue after all.

There might be more than 1 difficulty mode at release too btw.
I can already tell you there will be, there's casual classic and tactician mode in the files.
Does it make any mention of the differences between the available difficulty modes?

Which companions are bearable to keep around and which ones are to be immediately fed to the nearest owlbear? Thinking about what class my MC is going to be when this comes out of early access

Couldn't that just be something they carried over from D:OS?
The terms have been carried over, yes. As far as I am concerned they could've been labelled easy, normal and hard to achieve the exact same thing.
I'd extremely surprised if a CRPG released without multiple difficulty options in this day and age.

From the main menu GUI file:
<TextBlock Grid.Row="0" Text="{Binding Source='UIMainMenu_DifficultyLabel', Converter={StaticResource TranslatedStringConverter}}" Style="{StaticResource MMSaveboxLabel}"/>
<TextBlock Grid.Row="0" >
<TextBlock.Style>
<Style TargetType="TextBlock" BasedOn="{StaticResource MMSaveboxDesc}">
<Style.Triggers>
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding SelectedSave.Difficulty}" Value="Story">
<Setter Property="Text" Value="{Binding Source='UIMainMenu_Story', Converter={StaticResource TranslatedStringConverter}}"/>
</DataTrigger>
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding SelectedSave.Difficulty}" Value="Casual">
<Setter Property="Text" Value="{Binding Source='UIMainMenu_Explorer', Converter={StaticResource TranslatedStringConverter}}"/>
</DataTrigger>
<DataTrigger Binding="{Binding SelectedSave.Difficulty}" Value="Normal">
<Setter Property="Text" Value="{Binding Source='UIMainMenu_Classic', Converter={StaticResource TranslatedStringConverter}}"/>
</DataTrigger>
</Style.Triggers>
</Style>
</TextBlock.Style>
</TextBlock>

From the story file:
/*
0 -> Story
1 -> Casual
2 -> Normal
3 -> Hardcore
4 -> Honour
*/
IF
DifficultyChanged(_Difficulty)
AND
_Difficulty <= 1
THEN
DB_TUT_PlayOnEasy(1);

There's things marked with "HardcoreOnly", "NotHardcore", "TacticianHardcore", "CasualExplorer", "HonorHardcore", etc.,

Sounds like there's going to be a separate Ironman option that doesn't require you to play on Honor mode.
For those unfamiliar with the difficulty settings in Larian's previous games, Honor mode was essentially just Hardest difficulty + Ironman mode, but there was no Ironman option for lower difficulties.

Some things I found affected by long resting, spoilers beware
Long rest while druid grove is initially under attack -> all outsiders die
Long rest and anyone at the grove has died due to goblin raiding parties -> they get buried
Long rest after starting Harpy event -> kid is eaten
Long rest after entering druid grove without killing bugbear assassin -> begins killing refugees
Long rest without resolving the confrontation right after you enter the grove -> autoresolves
Long rest after grunting kid disappears -> reappears
Goblin "warpaint" on -> removed
Goblin priest confronted and not killed -> goblin temple on alert
Poisoning goblins -> goblins are poisoned
something with goblin torturers
hag well water makes you sick after a rest
swamp brothers die after a long rest
shadowheart can only be asked about shar once a day
a lot of party banter after doing things then resting(probably hundreds)
tavern burns down
lots of tadpole stuff
dog goes to camp
act 2 stuff I don't want to spoil for myself so I skipped
any quest that registers for a night update(probably a lot?)
lots of companion stuff...
tadpoles that escape from people and you don't kill before the next long rest increment a counter

This graphics engine makes exploration SO uninteresting, I don't even know why.
Quite the contrary I’d say. While I somewhat agree that some of the sunlit surfaces are too oversaturated and remind of D:OS whimsicality, when it comes to dungeons and more dusky regions it’s fucking fantastic.

When you load the main menu, there's also a Current Game panel on the right-hand side listing your latest save, and there's a field there which says "Difficulty: Classic."

Grab the Codex by the pussy Strap Yourselves In Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Is there a reason for the young dude above having white hair, or is it just a case of anime character design?

Astarion? Probably from being a moon elf, I guess. They're pretty much only black hair and white hair, and the most common elves there are. At least that was so in 3.5, I read somewhere it might be wood elves now.

So they had the option of giving him black hair and they picked white instead. Yep, anime character design.

he's 200+ years old
Vampires don't lose their hair color though.

If they have the hard mode with the purist rules I will be happy at least, let the retarded casuals play with their story mode.

Gosh people why are you so obsessed with this 6 number
Because party composition with 4 slots is fucking boring, especially when you have to fill it up with premade options.
Once you fill the usual key role for the bare minimum of variety, you are left with virtually no headroom to experiment with less conventional stuff.

Maybe it's anime, maybe it's drawing on the powdered wig look to sell the image of a foppish aristocrat. Probably both.

Also more opportunities for internal conflict and roleplay opportunity. 6 is the incline number!
