I was looking through the threads here and came across a picture of SDG and found myself questioning my sexuality. Before I knew it I realized that I had sublimated my strict homosexuality into hating Larian and that this was wrong. However I had forgotten that I had an agreement with the administration that if I ever said anything good about Larian they should delete my account. So here I am, a fresh babe Ontopoly, lover of Larian.
Ontopoly's Lore got incredibly more complex in the last few days:
Stop trolling the nymph, it's not very nice.

Hotfix #17 Now Live!
Version Number: 4.1.1.1321538

Hello everyone,

Today, we have a fresh hotfix for you too.

In our previous patch, it turns out Lae’zel wasn’t romanceable regardless of her approval rating. There’s probably a life lesson in that. But this isn’t ‘Larian’s Dating Advice Column’ - although we feel like given the nature of some of your fan art, a dating simulator with our most popular characters wouldn’t go amiss. Or at least a tapestry. Anyone know any good tapestry makers?

As ever, a sincere thank-you to those of you that took the time to report these issues to us via our support team and by your posts on all our social channels. Everything you send us is super helpful - and always welcome.

Thank you for playing Baldur’s Gate 3 - and to the Reddit user that created this masterpiece - we see you, and love you.
  • Fixed issue preventing romance with Lae’zel regardless of your approval rating.
  • Characters no longer walk around causing Bludgeoning damage to everyone around them.
  • AI now use their full arsenal of spells and items during combat.
  • Fixed crash that would occur during a saving throw if an item was equipped that improved your proficiency in an ability.
  • Character portraits now display correctly in the Twitch Extension during multiplayer.
  • Triggering Wild Magic: Turn Magic no longer skips your turn in FTB or combat.
  • Fixed shields from disappearing at the start of sheath animation.
  • AI no longer take Attacks of Opportunity when they shouldn’t.
  • Nere’s Shield of Screams now automatically activates as soon as he enters combat, and lasts for the duration of the fight.
  • Performance drop during cinematic dialogue at the Tiefling Den is no more.
  • Fixed rare crash that occurred when previewing a jump.
  • A black square no longer appears in the middle of the screen when crossing the bridge to the Blighted Village with NPOT resolution and lensflare enabled.

What an oddly specific bug, can't imagine that was easy to diagnose.

I'm sure the game will be fine if you like Larian games. I don't.

Really wish Baldur's Gate 3 could have been a real time with pause combat system like... I dunno... Baldur's Gate?

Technology has evolved past the need for real time.
Very retarded. Turn based RPGs go back before real time with pause. Technology is not the issue here. It's just Larian preferring turn based over RTwP, but at the same time, wanting to attach the Baldur's Gate name to a game that will be nothing like it because their mediocre games on their own can't drum up as much interest. It's a really shitty thing to do out of greed and jealousy over the legacy of games better than anything they'll ever make.

It's just Larian preferring turn based over RTwP,

The problem was never TB or RtWP. There are great TB games, Dark Sun : Shattered Lands & Wake of the Ravager, Temple of Elemental Evil and great RtWP games like BG1/2, NWN1/2. The problem is the AWFUL ruleset and Larian writing and AWFUL ultra slow turn based combat which remembers me of Wizardry 8. And the alterations that Larian made to make 5E even worse.

Why in god's name will Larian throw everything out the window. Start from scratch in developing a new system/engine in order to make a RTWP game, wasting tons of monies in the process. It makes no business sense. Of course it was going to be Turn Based the moment Wizards of the Coast announced that Larian will be making the game. These guys worked on the Divinity Original Sin games. Have an engine that's good for turn based gameplay. Have several years of experience in working on that engine.

Multiple companies pitched their 'Baldur's Gate 3' to Wizards of the Coast. WOTC ended up going with Larian's pitch.

I'd like to add that my dad was in the pitch meetings and most companies were considered 'too serious' to do Baldur's Gate justice. There was a pitch featuring Chris Avellone, but Wizards didn't like his rendition of Minsc as a poignant avenger fighting evil after his Aerie was killed in planescape alley.

ToEE is still one of the best implementation of Turn based sequential combat. The important catch is developers of ToEE didn't tried hard to create horde of dumb character options, they were perfectly fine to allow player to play a knight on a white horse, or some awesome evil hero equivalent.

And the other advantage they had over Larian is: They were able to recalculate rules, and alter rules to feel more right for PC implementation. AKA it wasn't just blind implementation of DnD 3.5 rules, it was DM stuff done right.

Can your dad tell Swen to hurry the fuck up? I wanna play this game before I croak.

I had to google what they mean by that abbreviation. Then I was wondering about what idiot is using textures that are not power of 2. (Actually n^2 + 1 can be used for clamping. But if graphic driver uses auto LOD, or a quick and efficient texture filtering stuff, it can wreak havoc.)

No because BG3 taking too long to make is a Tesla-esque scheme to inflate Larian's valuation. We estimate that in 13 years Larian's IPO will be bought into by several belgian and american pension funds, making sure it's stock price can never, ever deflate.

If Baldur's Gate was called D&D 2, marketed it's self as the sequel to D&D, and because of it's existence no real "D&D 2" will ever exist, that'd be a great point, but it's not.

I don't expect them to. I would want them to not make a BG3 if they've no interest in making a game that is like BG, and I rightly have contempt for them using the BG name to draw attention to their mediocre crap.

"So I don't really bother about wondering how large [that market] is. We just put a lot of love and a lot of money and effort into this one game because we figured that if it's really good, people are going to come and play. And I know that it's not necessarily the most business savvy approach to it, but if there's enough people that are willing to buy to play it and 'some' is larger than what you're putting into it, you'll be okay and that's pretty much how we're approaching it."
Swen’s attempts at pretending he’s a good guy are laughable. Yeah, you’re not business savvy at all, that’s why there’s a Twitch integration in your game.

I think I’ll enjoy BG3 more if I’ll start avoiding anything their PR shits out.
