yeah, I don't even watch their normie pr stuff. it's amazing the lengths they go to. how much money do they flush down the toilet with all the props etc? I want to play a vidya game, not watch a flashy theater club skit.

I guess it may be to try and get the larper audience though? idk.

Fuck off, Swen is nice, literally only cares about making nice RPGs in favour of everything else, literally put his house up for collateral to finish DOS 1, much more prestigious than all of you zoomer tourists.

Really wish Baldur's Gate 3 could have been a real time with pause combat system like... I dunno... Baldur's Gate?
Technology has evolved past the need for real time.
Very retarded. Turn based RPGs go back before real time with pause. Technology is not the issue here. It's just Larian preferring turn based over RTwP, but at the same time, wanting to attach the Baldur's Gate name to a game that will be nothing like it because their mediocre games on their own can't drum up as much interest. It's a really shitty thing to do out of greed and jealousy over the legacy of games better than anything they'll ever make.
1) I am pretty sure the big about technology was a joke.

2) Larian got Baldur's Gate 3 exactly because they were behind one of the most popular (if not THE most popular) cRPG series. Keep in mind that their first attempt to get BG3 license has been rejected.

3) Considering the kind of man Swen is, I'd say he wasn't going after BG3 because of "greed or jealousy", but because he actually really wanted to develop BG3.

And the other advantage they had over Larian is: They were able to recalculate rules, and alter rules to feel more right for PC implementation. AKA it wasn't just blind implementation of DnD 3.5 rules, it was DM stuff done right.
Isn't Larian actually altering some of the rules to "make them fit the video game format" or something like that?

I'm sure the game will be fine if you like Larian games. I don't.

Really wish Baldur's Gate could have been a turn-based game like... I dunno... D&D?
If Baldur's Gate was called D&D 2, marketed it's self as the sequel to D&D, and because of it's existence no real "D&D 2" will ever exist, that'd be a great point, but it's not.
Yeah it's just a game using the D&D ruleset and you're angry at larian for being more faithful to it.

The only reason rtwp ever existed was to cash in on the popularity of RTS. It was an abomination.

BG 1&2's combat mainly consisted of casting buffs, window selecting your party and clicking on an enemy. All the copycat games (eg, Dragon Age) had basically the same combat, and it was mind-numbing. Only BG2's higher-level spell combat was remotely strategic, and even then only on higher difficulty or solo.

RPG fans largely held their nose while playing BG's combat and would set it to pause on spell cast etc to simulate the turn-based combat we all wanted, but players were assumed too stupid and lacking in attention to get. If you go back and look at older posts on this site, you can probably find posts of the people complaining about it.

It's pretty funny to see the shoe finally on the other foot and real-time fans being forced to play turn-based games "because that's what sells". :M

I think Swen just likes doing it. Perks of being a private company that doesn't have to answer to investors.

Swen has never pretended otherwise that Larian is anything but his studio.

Honestly, if you could take a full write off on screwing around and tag it under Ad & Promo, it'd be interesting to see what anyone would get up to.

modern rts developers like relic are too stupid to make proper rts games with shit like dawn of war 3 and age of crapires. There no way in hell a rts rpg hybrid, rtwp, can be done right now. Biowares Greg and Ray were actual rts fans and so was one of the head guys that designed original dragon age.

3rd edition and later dnd are shit for rtwp anyways with all the buffs and debuffs that are boring to watch in rtwp but satifying in turn based.

Not full price? Hmm, I like to shit on DOS and Larian but I'll be playing it sooner or later. Not sure about purchase tho, plus GOG... steam workshop announced or what?
Hm... with inflation and shit like that I won't be surprised if the release price will be higher than usual. If there is a mod to skip the whole battle on nautiloid, I would buy it for 30 to see if I like it, and refund if I don't.

Seems like there are also complaints of below average writing and butchering of the setting.
Larian is famous for their bad writing. Nobody cared about the story in D:OS, people played it for the (co-op) battles. But this doesn't work in BG.
The story and characters have to be the main focus, something Larian isn't qualified for.
