Writing is.. ok. I mean compared to WOtR it’s fucking heaven. What’s not fine is larianisms. Attempts to insert MORE FUN at the expense of sanity and cartoony visuals to name a few.
Ah yes and the toilet chain which I think is not its main problem (sorry Tuco).

It’s main problem is D:OS fans who expect it to be another D:OS full of cheap fun and Swen is eager to deliver it.

Seems like there are also complaints of below average writing and butchering of the setting.
Larian is famous for their bad writing. Nobody cared about the story in D:OS, people played it for the (co-op) battles. But this doesn't work in BG.
The story and characters have to be the main focus, something Larian isn't qualified for.
ah yes, the famous writing of BG2 where you take a pregnant mother into battle

GO FOR THE EYES BOO!
hahaha best writing

1) I don't think zoomers use GOG steam is way more hip.
2) TB is popular due to NuXcom. I think tb even popular on mobile and overall it's mainstream-ish.
3) Writing is certainly better than in DOS I-II, low mark but hey.
4) Goo for the eye and all the shit is going to be in the game, cuz ceo's decided that's what BG is all about. I'm sure it was Wizard's decision.
5) DnD 5 sucks ass as CRPG system, no build porn rip.

Go read basically any discussion of BG/BG2 prior to ~2010, at least someone will mention it as being their favorite line from the game.
I like that line, and I like Minsc. He's ten times better than all the edgy tryhards Larian showed us so far in BG3. I'd take a hundred times Minsc and Dynaheir over whatever the fuck Astarion, Lae'zel, and Wyll are supposed to be.

Rusty, when you try to compare the light-hearted humor of BG to the dumb silliness of D:OS you commit one big mistake: D:OS has nothing to do with the catchy one-liners of BG, instead it looks like a game where someone found Noober incredibly funny and decided to design 100 hours of content around it.

Nope, you just got old.
The reason you don't find cheese lines as funny as the Minsc lines is because you're old and cranky.

Yes, many people love Minsc because he's so zany lolololol. :hahano:

Of course, there's not much you can expect from a fan base that thinks Aerie is adorable, rather than worthy of being dumped in the nearest ditch.

I agree with all of this while still finding Minsc to be annoying.

First, I'm not old. Don't try to say anything like that ever again. I'm basically a kid and I will never die.

Second, I didn't say that Minsc's lines were funny. I'd say they're about as funny as the cheese guy. But it's one thing to have a bunch of companions used as comic relief, and it's a completely different thing to build an ENTIRE GAME around absurd situations and wacky incompetent villains. "Where will this teleporter go? UH NO, I'M IN A ROOM WITH A NAKED LADY TAKING A BATH! Let's leave and hide for a while... wait, what's that? Of course it's Walter "Wally" Wellington McWishingWell, a talking well who is asking me to reunite him with his brother. Let's see if I can help him with something in my inventory... no, only bucket-helmets and smelly pants here!"

But I'm being unfair here, the talking well is literally the best character in that game.

Thanks for reminding me how great that game is tbh.
Basically the only modern game to capture the feeling of playing a fairytale.

Turn-based is the only way RPGs should be. DOS2 writing was fine. BG3 is already the best modern RPG, and when it will finally release in the year 2024, the entire Codex will be forced to recognize it as the greatest RPG of all time, even greater than Arcanum, and bow to the genius of Larian. Driven by regret and great shame, Ontopoly will cast himself into the great surface of fire where there's nothing but weeping and the gnashing of teeth, and then Swen himself will arrive from his palace in Belgium to announce Baldur's Gate 4 to the sound of heavenly choir.

Since I suffer from illiteracy and can't read. I didn't read any of that. I laugh at you, literate fags.

To be honest Minsc quotes at least make me smile with nostalgia and I Can boot BG II and laugh at Jan Jansen dumb stories but Dos writing only made me sad Swen and his team should be prohibited from writing for spreading depression around the world with their unfunny jokes.

I have already changed my mind, BG3 will be the RPG of the year for all years to come after it is released and Swen (PBUH) is the greatest developer of all time.

This game is nothing but Noobers, from the NPCs in the game to the NPCs developing it.
Care to give some examples?

BG3 is about as well-written as BG2 was, from what I've seen so far. Better in some places.

I don't see any examples of Larian camp in the writing, apart from maybe some of the comic relief in the Goblin fort.
