Does the game attempt to combat rest spamming in any way? Is it all up to the player not to abuse rests or is there some mechanic, or - god forbid - quest reactivity to how many rests you make?

Yes and no. A lot of quests have certain limits, if you rest too much, something can happen.

All Reddit threads looks like that. Check for example Star Trek, Star Wars or Indiana Jones (I don't ever propose political kind) - everywhere is this same cult-like thinking, unfunny memes and no presence of even slightest negative thought. It works this way - most of the people are disgusted and they don't ever try to post, minority is banned after attempt of wrong thinking; rest are cultist and priest-mods sustaining climate.
