It's about time a famous franchise changes its gameplay for the best

why is turn based combat a change for the best?

Diablo 2 if it were changed to turn based, would've been a change for the best?

It's about time a famous franchise changes its gameplay for the best, i can only remember the opposite.

So, what is going to be ?
  1. Larian was born for this, TB incline game or the decade (in before KotC 2, Realms beyond and colony Ship)
  2. Another day in the dark ages of cRPG ...

It's only a change for the better if you like turn based crpgs. I don't. Turning it into something else is just trying to trick the old fans into buying something completely different. It's not going to work on me at all. I thought the two Divinity games were shit. I don't want Divinity with 5e and the BG name.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I will say my random theory which is that they might go for simultaneous turns - which makes also multiplayer faster. But I'm completely pulling this out of my ass

So now turn based is decline. Is this what the Codex has turned into now?

looks at join date

Ho, a new fag, probably a zoomer. I hope you realize that D&D is turn based brah, and that the only reason Baldur's Gate was in real time is because Bioware were always faggots, right?

My fears is that the game will go full retarded because the originals were already kinda retarded. I also have no idea if 5th edition is shit or not, maybe somebody can chime in.

Ho, and like i said, no cartoony graphics please. Don't rape the legacy of the Infinity Engine, the one thing Bioware actually did right.

Darklands is 1992 right?

Honestly I was referring to the Gold Box games which were released in mid-late 1980s?

Gateway to Apshai, a 1983 RT RPG running on an actual toaster. And it didn't even have a pause, which by your standards is even more progress, right?

I'm probably older than you. You can have your turn based games. I don't care. Leave the series I like the hell alone. Only turn based fags call for turning established series into their shit. I've never seen someone who likes rtwp call for turn based games to be changed. I didn't say it was decline either. It's just a scummy business practice

Of course, but to turn lead into gold, you'd need more than a good TB battle system, you'd need a great character creation and development system, good combat encounters, a party and meaningful itemization.
So that's a 180° turn from Diablo recipe.

If Diablo was about tactical combat and strategic decision making, absolutely. Totally wrong kind of game, though.

RTwP will always be full of trash encounters and maybe a few memorable ones - it's just the only way to design these games. If you need a longer play time in RTwP, you need more encounters, and there's no way you have the time to design all of them in a way that would allow them to be memorable.
I can still remember most encounters in D:OS1 and even more so in 2. I forgot about pretty much every encounter in both PoE1 and 2...

I loved BG1 and 2 anyway, despite the combat being what it was. It did have some memorable and interesting encounters, too. But I sure wouldn't mind a change towards memorable encounters being the norm, not the exception, and that means TB.
Or maybe it will be the first RTwP sporting a majority of interesting encounters - never say never, eh?
Or maybe it will be TB and have shitty encounters. That would suck more than RTwP with shitty encounters...

People in here love Underrail, so...
yes they do love it, now they just need to actually play it.
I don't know if by that you mean that I haven't played the game but I have for about 20-25 hours.
I maintain my opinion that it is the closest thing to a turn-based Diablo-clone. You play solo, it is basically loot porn and the story is a backdrop.
Of course being turn based makes combat much more tactical

Autopause mode in BG is not turn based, but still - great addition for people who have epileptic seizures during "omg it's so chaotic, fast, and non-satisfying, how I gonna live with this"-- rtwp combat. In POE2 Obsidian added turn base as alternative. So maybe Larian will also try to figure out some solution to satisfy different players. But in a same time I can't imagine BG game with grid-based battlefields like X-COM

No. I can't imagine grid based combat in a game that continues BG-series (with two rtwp combat, non-grid movement games before).
