It's clear you haven't played the game, maybe do that before discussing it.
Sorcerers are rounded up and killed, how dark! Does it show the teeth grinding of torture or the screams of anguish of loved ones left behind? Nah, bro; watch these animations and have some extra witty jokes to go with your genocide!
I have not played the game but I want to voice my shit opinion: the post
Played it for a while and hit uninstall.exe since I don't have the same tolerance for Larian humor as you do; but certainly the overall tone of the dialogue and story did a 180 degree later on, eh?

Jaheira in BG2 is basically the precursor to Carth. We're not at full Destination: Angst City yet, but we're certainly on that train. Choo-choo, motherfucker

Well, there is a scene where you find a collection of souls that demon stole represented by mountains of candles (soul each), that you have to snuff in order to weaken him. Dark doesn't always have to be gory, edgy, rapy shit.
How about the cave full of mutant insect monsters that has body parts strewn everywhere, full of gore, and if you have an elf full of stories of people being eaten alive
Or how about the animal cruelty which is so relentless that Roxor even took the time to mention it in the review. You'd have to be blind not to notice it.

I still need to get around to making a mod that teleports Buttons to your ship…

Y'all are tempting me to retry it - not out of renewed faith in the game, but out of spite for it. Though in general I must admit that one scoop of shit is enough, you don't need to take others in search of the supposed good stuff underneath.

Anyhow, I concede for now, though I stand by my views.

As an example, after waking up in Irenicus' dungeon Imoen and the rest react naturally, as you'd expect people to do. They're scared, angry, grief stricken, and the other denizens of the dungeons, at least those willing to talk, are equally traumatized. People that have been abducted by Lovecraftian rejects and injected with mind parasites eating away at their brains should be equally disturbed, yet none of the characters shown in the demo behave like that.
In fairness, there was missing tutorial section before actual start of the demo.
Then 5 minutes after seeing her husband mutilated jaheira wants to have sex with you.
Such amazing writing.
Women, huh?

It doesn't, but when such a scene is the exception rather than the rule, then the game remains the witty comedic adventure which it had been for most of its content's design.
You see what they do to mages in fort joy- they get lobotomized and used as braindead slaves, that guy in the attic loves to butcher from time to time. You see entire port, annihilated by voidspawn, littered with corpses. There is a woman who was burned alive, that came back to life, walking around on a stake she was burned on, scorching everything around her.
Game doesn't even have a single happy ending- someone is bound to get fucked.

For once, we're getting a sequel/reinvention of a series that actually brings it closer to the source material, and people call this decline?

This is basically the opposite of what happened with Fallout 3. Imagine, a AAA reinvention that is even more faithful to the rules than the original, that has even less action gameplay. Unfathomable incline, that's what it is! Just months ago people thought this couldn't be anything else but a FP action game.

I'm not sure you can call them people, their IQ is probably so low they don't even qualify as chimpanzee ...

I'm self admittedly butt hurt about this game.
You haven't really explained why beyond "RTwP! waaaaaa!", though.
Exactly, Ontopoly, why do YOU hate Baldur's Gate 3?
I've barely even brought up rtwp. I've brought up that they treat us like second class citizens and that their old games suck and that they aren't deserving to make a sequel to a game that doesn't resemble it at all way more than rtwp. Wotc and Larian should be ashamed of themselves for defiling the BG grave. Let it rest for the rest of time.
You know that even after the release of BG3 we can still play BG1 and BG2, right? Nobody is stopping us.
For a long time we haven't got the chance to play any well developed D&D game, what was the last decent D&D game? For me it's NWN2, so it's 14 years that I am waiting for my D&D fix. Now I can play another D&D game and I am happy, I don't care about the name. BG1 and 2 will still remain the games that they are, even if BG3 is different, even if BG3 is pure disgusting shit. It's not "BG3" because it's a direct sequel, it's "BG3" because it's a major D&D game, that's it. We need to accept this and move on, but accepting that a game from 2000 isn't getting a proper sequel shouldn't be so difficult, the bhaalspawn plot has already reached its end, we don't need anything more. They are using the name to attract more people, who the fuck cares. This is the only BG3 we can possibly get: if it's not this, it's nothing. It's a name, fuck it.

They are not making a sequel, they are making a D&D game that's faithful to system, so WotC is making them use their most prestigious name. For all we know, maybe Larian just wanted to make a D&D game and WotC was willing to give them the rights to do so only if the game used this fucking name. It's exactly what happened with The Black Hound: it had nothing to do with BG, but the name had to be Baldur's Gate: Fuck Me.

Second class citizens? Jesus Christ, are you sexually aroused by RTwP games? They are making a TB game using an old IP, they are not retiring all the BG copies that were ever sold in order to resell BG1 & 2 as TB games.

Their old games suck? Yeah, probably. I just know that I hate them, but I am willing to give myself a little hope for BG3.

You're being deliberately facetious here, and misinterpreting what I'm getting at. We both know it takes a while longer for that sequence of events to trigger, and only really if the player goes down that path.

It's actually not just a question of length, it's pretty much ironically the reverse of the actual issue with that romance being that like all the compaions Jaheira shows the signs of preBioAngstEra and so you have a lengthy line of banters where she moans about Khalid and how life is hard and is Very Angry About Stuff. So ol'e Rusty the DivApologist here isn't just using hyperbole, he is pretty much just wrong in as about as many ways as he can be.
If we isolate only her dialogue, it takes her 6 minutes and 46 seconds to start talking about forgetting Khalid.

Somehow they managed to turn animal cruelty into something funny, yet dramatic. A successful mix of morbid humor, yet at the same time a commentary on our powerlessness to change the state of most things.

The whole story with Buddy wanting to find his mate Emmie was just great. Despite you finding her there's just no way of fixing what has been done, no way to get a happy ending. You search on the net to see if the quest has a solution you couldn't find, but your hopes are thwarted right there, and you have to live with it. Some quests cannot be solved. Some loss is inevitable.

If Bioware was writing this they would have you saving all the animals.

Bioware does wish fulfillment and fan service. Larian makes players face truths in a humorous way.

OS2 had a big missed opportunity regarding the premise of the main quest, IMO. Putting aside the 7->Gods->Source->Sourceking shit, I mean the premise that you're put into. Demonic aliens are invading, the setting is at the brink of an apocalyptic setting, and things have gotten so bad they're forced into a quarantine scenario where they have to enslave sourcerers on a last ditch effort to stop the invasion. The person who orders it, the child of a literal god-ascendant, is also part of the quarantine. It's a good setup.

But then it kind of meanders and falls apart and you're basically just fighting it out. Though I do appreciate the highlanderesque "there can be only one" ending.

if we determine the length of my majestic cock measuring only the tip it doesn’t extend further than 14 inches, but then we would be neglecting the size of my massive shaft wouldn’t we

Presumably the time between banters isn’t 0 unless you’re a filthy cheat who can’t wait to get into Jaheira’s grove

As I read it I actually realized how much I would really love to see "Baldur's Gate 2" part retroactively dropped from Shadows of Amn (and ToB) and BG3 being named BG2.
Would make sense too, with BG1 and 2 involving Baldur's Gate, the city, and SoA/ToB not.

Make it so.
