Welcome to the Reeeeecodex!
We sliurp to any low level intellectual!
Quick, call someone a nigger to make the thread less reddit like.
Can't Infinitron cuts out any negativity. Clearly Swen made a pious gift in the form of a bag filled with shekels.

Anyway, clearly BG3 will be THE amazing game that is worth buying by every smart codexer.

BG3 will be the greatest RPG ever created.

Are you joking? I don't denny that compared to modern """RPG"""'s like faggout 4/76 and diablo 3(which has less RPG on it than survival games like Rust and Ark), BG3 looks amazing. But it just can't be good as BG2 due the inferior ruleset and low level cap.

IDK why so many people defend low level D&D. I an playing Dark Sun : Wake of the Ravager and almost at lv cap with my preserver and half giant gladiator and there are about 40% of the game left. Spend a eternity not leveling or spend a eternity fighting low level kobolds is not fun or engaging. And note, the lv cap of Wake of the Ravager is 15. Anything interesting on D&D requires at least medium level. And even the weakest and lowest red wizard of thay can cast tier 4 spells. ToEE is better with Co8 which removes the lv cap and Dark Sun : Shattered Sands and wake of the ravager would be much better if allowed you to reach lv 17+.

Hell, Dark Sun P&P game allow the PC to even cast the 10th tier spells like Defiler's metamorphosis. - Page 83 of Defilers and Preservers: The Wizards of Athas. However, only one guy completed all stages of that metamorphosis. Borys. Imagine being able to cast it or even Prolific reforestation and create your own oasis in mid of this harsh savage tyrannic lands. And then, casting wall of ash, imagine a permanent.

Athas has so many unique spells due the nature of magic on a world abandoned by the Gods. To fully explore it, you need to go high level. Even a Dragon with 2 save vs death will require to roll 12 to not die to that wall... Even if he fly(see the text description)

So, lets hope that tomorrow they will say that the new lv cap is at least 15.

lol that spell sounds pretty retarded, also why watch it for 4 hours if it could be dug in half an hour for example. Doesn't even have a good description, how tall it is,does it mean that you could just fly around and drop dead because some retard made 30m tall ash duster? If it is the only the 30m affected by the magic, well that is pretty easy to bypass lol.

is that really your example of modern '''rpg'''?

what are you older than crispy

Anything newer than oblivion = modern. But all BS from D3 plagues modern RPG's. Stat stickie itemization, cooldowns on everything, level meaning nothing, ludonarrative dissonance(...)

Wrong. Few creatures can fly on Athas and ""fly"" magic is very rare(psionics very common). Almost every city state is protected by walls. Now imagine a wall which can OHK anyone trying to pass it. You can't climb or hire half giants mercenaries to destroy it. And guess what, cities got saved by stone walls, imagine what a wall of death could do. Imagine that spell and then a wall before with skeleton archers on top of it. Except Borys, nobody could invade your city....

Note that I din't posted the complete spell text.

My point is that to fully explore the D&D cosmos, you need to go mid/high level. Or do you wanna enter the 666th layer of abyss to fight the might, all powerful, epic .... lv 2 KOBOLD!!!

Athas also has his fair share of magicians who aren't neither preservers, nor defilers and can cast spells using non living sources, like shadow wizards.

The class kit even has unique mechanics to memorize/attune spells

Anything newer than oblivion = modern.
i remember when modernity started with baldurs gate

someone else in this forum might remember when modernity started with computer graphics

Except that on BG era, RPG's had complete distinct design philosophy. They favored more immersion and fun than balance and accessibility. When I refer to modern RPG's, I refer to this games full of mmo/wow clone BS like D3, Faggout 76, etc. Where they have zero consistency between mechanics and lore, zero character individuality, a awful fps style loadout system and less RPG elements than survival games. When RPG's become more about gear farming + cooldown managing games and less role playing games, about mid to late 2000s, is when I call then modern RPG times.

BG2 uses a extremely similar ruleset to most earlier 90s games. Only because it has better graphics, doesn't means that the game is modern. Neverwinter night 1/2 is not modern, neverwinter, the generic wow clone is a modern RPG. Pathfinder Kingmaker is a modern RPG made by old school philosophy.

BG3 will be 5e, a edition which is not awful like 4e(wow clone) but is not great like 3/2e either.

if that were true bg would be turn based like Baldur's Gate 3®(tm)

Being turn based or not is not what I an talking about. There are countless of amazing RtWP and amazing TB games. However, DOS2 and BG3 according to the videos shown suffer from the Wizardry 8 problem AKA ultra slow animations.

Games in early 90s allowed you to skip animations, like Dark sun games for eg. I only use it on very long combats but love that option.

Is that hard to put it and put concurrent turns from enemies? A thing which ToEE had?
