Arcane

, but some old fucks still prefer AD&D for some reason.
Many reasons.
- Did you DMed 3e? There are so many numbers/modifiers and it is a chore. Many rental DM's asks more to DM 3e than 5e by this reason.
- Number inflation. On 2e, you get almost no hp past lv 10. And even deity avatars has like 200 hp. Dragons too.
- Different XP for different classes. Makes perfectly sense that learning magic arts is more hard than thieving arts, so mages requiring more XP makes perfectly sense and it creates a dilemma in some settings like Dark Sun, preservers which evolve slow and defilers which evolves fast.
- Less invincible pun pun builds
- A lot of optional rules. Wanna make plate armor more effective vs a sword than a blunt weapon? There are optional rules for that. BG1/2 uses it but other games like Dark Sun : Shattered Sands nad Wake of the Ravager doesn't use it. There are even optional rules for breaking bones, bleeding and so on.

My greatest concern with BG3? That they will do like SCL, not in the bastardization of rules, the game seems like a decent adaptation, but in making legendary enemies weaklings to fit a low level campaign. And yes, on sword coast legends, you can fight a lich at lv 6.
