Encounter design is good but it gets way too easy past lvl 4-5 imo. Feats are big powerspike and sadly game doesn't really take that into account. Probably to accomodate shitty multiclass builds.
The only time I was threatened in Tactician mode, was at low level 1-2, otherwise it was a brise.

Not much required to fix it for once. A simple numbers buff would go a long way.
I already feel like I'm mopping the floor in my last two encounters - Marcus and the Duergar in front of the cave-in. But for me that was always part of the deal, because I'm playing on Balanced, and for another thing, it's a triple-A game, it's for the lowest common denominator when it comes to difficulty, and difficulty means combat. It's mostly only combat that can set you back in frustration and needing to reload, and frustration is a no-no in modern game design.

I think the enemies just need more HP. In terms of AI and available tools, they are doing quite well.
There are a lot of dangerous enemies that, if given a chance, could be really fun fights.

Lots of tryhard autists on the codex (though KotC1 is really good, 2 is where encounter design falls of the edge)
To be fair, he doesn't say he approached it with the expectation to be as hard as KOTC2, which is something someone else claimed he did. Which just outs him as either a liar or an idiot.
KOTC2 is just a giant Battle Royale, into an RPG coat of paint.

We truly live in a post bear sex world. All developers and publishers will have to adjust to the new normal.

In 10 years this shit will be expected and "radical" thing will be sex with children. In RL at the time you will be called alt right Nazi if you do not let teachers at school show children how to have sex with them. You will be Minor Attracted Person hate speech spreader.

Possible give a selection of them the alert feat too - to make initiative not so easy to win consistently,

It can be very slippery and can easily turn into one turn death.
Modifying other stats is also dangerous due to 5e. It may turn out that a large part of the spells will then become useless (as in WoTR on higher difficulty levels).
A simple HP modification is the safest option especially since the combat design is really good.
Possibly, you could increase the damage dealt, but it's slippery again.

Neverwinter as a city is rather small compared to behemoths like million-strong Waterdeep+Scullport, thriving Baldur's Gate and Athkatla, with two million pops.

Can you throw around crates, vases, weapons, books etc like in DOS? Is every item interactable?

Edit: Fuck, I absolutely despised it in DOS...
Complaining that the game offers an interactive environment is really weird.
Not if it ruins the game. You can trivialize combat by setting up shit before triggering an encounter.
And since all containers are interactable, I feel the need to check them all out because of the random loot table - you never know, there may be a magic item, a skill/spellbook, hidden note or even a quest item. Feels like a chore, I much prefer the classic implementation of IE games or Dragon Age where only a few crates/chests per area can be opened.

Actually, after fighting the Gith Inquisitor you can go grab Blood of Lathander and teleport outside from there, sparing dozens of innocent Gith. Game doesn't acknowledge that, but it is THE moral choice.

There is nothing essential in random containers. Virtually every important item is in a fixed place and is usually found in chests not in random crates.
