No one played Legends here? Other than Darth? I expected better results, a group of prestigious gentlemen who played the biggest mod for Battle Brothers and then decided that individuals as prestigious as themselves should return to playing vanilla Battle Brothers. Which is the most prestigious version. Well, i'd have to wait for him or visit discord - which is much less prestigious.

I play legends exclusively for last 2 years. Anybody making noises that vanilla is better in any way is just outright retarded and should be ignored as such. Just disable womyn, ignore magic if you hate it (get Vala though). I also use bunch of QoL mods, like auto combat and shop/inventory ease ones. While I am generally unhappy with later overbalancing of fun combos it's still much better game than vanilla (which basically is 2 cookie cutter builds every single game).

Darth Canoli i summon thee!* ... if you have a few minutes to answer some questions that is.
Waiting for the new DLC i am trying Legends and i have a few questions. Let's start with:
1. Are there any broken perks? I don't ask about strong and weak perks but about not working as intended (or at all) or ridiculously overpowered ones.
2. I started with "dynamic perks" because it is the default but it looks a bit random on some bros. What is your opinion on those?

*or anyone else who played Legends mod not very long time ago.

There isn't any broken perk that I know of, that is if you stick with Legends ( with Magic Origins eventually)
Magic Origins evolves fast but any new feature that might be broken would be fixed in a matter of days.

PTR (Perk Tree Reworked) adds a shitload of features but some might be broken, less and less and it'll be soon included in Legends, It's mostly for people who played LEgends too much and want some change.

Dynamic Perk is the way to go, otherwise, you only get vanilla perks, I think.
Still, if you don't want to add too much tedium to the "best bro hunting" mini-game, you can use breditor for legends, which allows you to add perks individually or whole perk categories all at once, which you'd have to use perk points on (or you can cheat but most players use it to add perk families here and there)

Pity that competing mercenary companies don't seem to use varied origins.
It would be interesting to fight against both of the new company backgrounds.

There's a new feature in Legends, "free companies" which, in time might do exactly that, right now, it's scaling competing companies which are hostile to you.
There's a submod making it a cultist competing faction instead.

Might be sadomasochistic on my part, but never got into legends because it somewhat takes away two of the most enthralling features of battle brothers: difficulty and germanic balance autism. Many of the mod features are somewhat cheesy and exploitable.

About the balance autism, you're probably right.
About the difficulty, you're certainly wrong, enemies have new perks and if you add PTR, they also have PTR perks, making them way harder, Of course, you have access to powerful perks too but morale exploits have been fixed (with the berserker for example) and depending on the scenario difficulty (berserker is still strong) and the game difficulty, it could be way way harder than vanilla (it always have except for a few exploits, now fixed).

Fuck the balance, though, some encounters are impossible to win, champions lindwurms or stollwurms (super lindwurms) will eat you alive if you don't run and there's too many of them.
Just like Rock unholds or worse, a big pack of white wolves (they have 16 AP and they're angry)

"just disable everything and legends will be slightly less overbloated mess!"

I specifically noted "if you hate it". What is your point? You not forced to hire classes you don't enjoy. Having more is always better than having less. You can totally play vanilla style game in Legends but still get access to all expanded late game content you have no access at all in vanilla. Preferring less to more is anti codex and you are weirdo.

I don't have anything against Legends. Maybe i will after playing some more. Or maybe i'll start to love it. I haven't decided yet.
However saying that "having more i always better" is like saying "eating more is always better". It isn't even food is good. It is nonsense. Too much of options or items of units or rules or whatever else and you might start to have a problem with bloat. A problem that some big mods to many games have. Quantity is not always quality on its own, and not in case of computer games. And saying "you don't like the option, don't use it" is also not always as good as you may think.

Darth Canoli thanks. I already figured out that you only have the new perks using "dynamic" options. That's ok though a middle options where you get all the vanilla perks on each bro + choice of 1-3 new perks per level would be nice. But it would require more coding so and maintenance so i can see why they don't do it.
What i find retarded is their decision not to include the small mod that pauses the game when enemies are spotted in the list of supported mods. You can achieve the same effect manually - just by going at 1x speed all the time and paying a little attention. Which means it is a pure (and great) QoL feature. And their reasoning is beyond retarded. But all this not a big deal. Can deal with that, i played the game - long time ago - without the mod so i'll live.
I have chosen the medium option when it comes to women. Which is mostly nice. Since women are part of the mod it would be unreasonable to not play with them but staying at least partially with the original is nice. But seamstress? washerwoman? housemaid? LOL. I rather expected noble women or magic profession, and they are in the game too.
I hope that if i have some question later i can ask you. People on discord are ok but fellow codexer is always better, right??

Huh, with all the additions to this game it really seems this Battle Brothers game is one of these "Ultimate CRPGs" that has just oodles of 'stuff' to keep u entertained with. I'm going to go ahead and likely start a new campaign soon, it would mark my first time playing the game, plus I own all the DLC. Should be fun! :) Any non-spoiler things I should know before jumping in?

don't be afraid to switch from mercenary to bandit. robbing caravans is the quickest way to outgear the level scaling. taking crappy jobs to fight monsters with rookies is a bad idea.

The game becomes more tense, more exiting and usually better balanced because you actually need to spend consumables and take losses/wounds etc. And of curse the only way to have any real challenge in some types of games. That's why many people like it.
Important thing to note, Ironman is usually only fun if you know what you're doing, where a defeat is an occassional obstacle to recover from. If you're just going from one defeat to another because you suck (ie. aren't that familiar with the game and its tactics yet), then Ironman is just going to be one long frustration that'll end with a rage quit. Personally, I only start doing Ironman runs in games once they start feeling too easy even on max difficulty.
Couldn't agree more. And that's how i often do it as well. Apart from game that are meant to be "IM only" aka most RLikes and RLites. There is really no point playing most of them otherwise. But games like BB, XCOM1 (Long War!)* and similar - it is often the best way.

*Classic x-com should be nice too, i only played it very long time ago (90s), using reload. I need to try it IM one day.

BB's mod scene is weird, not sure why, maybe because the Devs encrypted the files?

Legends might have some good and well balanced additions, but there is also a lot of hideous bloat that you'd have to turn off, like spellcasters and women. God help you if you forget to turn off something you didn't want in the game.

In a game with a normal mod scene there'd be a bunch of smaller mods that you could pick and choose from to get a vanilla plus experience, rather than one huge kitchen sink mega mod full of stuff that doesn't belong in the game.

Women are easy to turn off and hard to forget because the option is in the starting menu. I don't mind the middle setting for women: i treat milkmaids and washerwomen and such as a comic relief. As to the rest, those are often spellcasters who make some sense as women in a high(er) magic fanatsy setting. Spellcasters are one of the main attractions of the mod as i understand it. Legends is thematically, setting-wise in essence BB + more/player magic.
As to mods, that really depends. When there is a big mod for a game it often have stuff that can't be replicated by other mods simply because some stuff is interdependent with other parts of such mod. But yes, the BB mod scene is less developed than i would like.

And their reasoning is beyond retarded.

They're modders so of course, they"re retarded.
I mean 50% of the modders are, so in a big team, there has to be retarded features.

I don't like they didn't include the pause but I think it messed with a couple of things, there is some unstable features like camping when doing some caravan mission. It's mostly stable unless you choose to check bros stats/inventory, then it might crash when leaving the camping mode.

The best is just knifing people wearing good armours like there is no tomorrow.

An elementalist can do just that with his lightning attacks and even the elemental storm if the targets gets hit by lightning (ice, fire and lightning chosen randomly for each target).

As for the women, there is the vala (enchantress, buffs + summon + creating runes), the hexe (temporary or permanent charming with the magic origins submod), the shieldmaiden (male version of the militia with shield skills), noblewomen, i don't care about the rest, at some point, some of them were used for some crafts but now it's mostly the blacksmith (white wolf, stolwurm, rock unhold helmets and so on)

I hope that if i have some question later i can ask you. People on discord are ok but fellow codexer is always better, right??

Sure, I'll be glad to help if I can, I have to balance my karma somewhat ;-)

I'm quite curious to what will be the effects of the mutagens/potions for all the several enemies.

So far we know that the Ifrit mutagen grants 20 natural armor bonus, and that the goblin skirmisher mutagen cuts the fatigue penalty and action points for footwork and rotate skill.

What will the orc mutagens do? Hexe mutagen? Alp? Goblin shaman? Wolves and hyenas? Serpents?

I can guess that unhold mutagen will give some kind of regeneration perk("healing factor" lol). Spider probably poison immunity? Lindwurm could give accidic blood but that would probably be overpowered.

Some enemies I'm not sure actually give mutagens - I mean, do you get a potion for killing simple skellies? Do you get different mutagens for different types of goblins and orcs?

But from beasts alone you are looking at at least 11 mutagens. Add to that the potions from undead and greenskin and you will probably have some really significant overall boost to function and strategy. I'm not even considering what you will get from legendary enemies(the dev diary mentions that those are significantly powerful)

Ifrit giving 20 natural armor is extremely pathetic when the cost is confident morale.

How does "natural armor" work anyway? Mechanically in the game I mean. Is that like 20 armor points that never goes away and always reduces damage? If so not too shabby at all.

No idea tbh. I think simplest way it could work is probably just a flat +20 at the start of every battle that however can get destroyed as normal. If it's some indestructible flat 20 points reducing from each hit with being indestructible then maybe that might be somewhat value ish with nimble?

The wiki says that some enemies have it(i.e: hexes and necromancers). It doesn't say what exactly it does and how does it work. Both those enemies are frail and easily killable so it is probably just a minor boost to armor at no fatigue expense. Like buying those leather shoulder pads.

Necrosavant is going to be something like +1 Vision at night or something

Quite sure one of the mutagens will simply be night vision. Like the potion effect except permanent.

Because witchers and shit lewl. Pretty obvious.

mutations all seem weak but neat to uncover without spoiling yourself for one run. Confident bro with fearsome trivializes 90 percent encounters in whatever direction you send him in.

We only know two of them... and from easily killable enemies at that. Were you guys expecting something über from a fucking goblin skirmisher and an ifrit? lol, those are two types of enemies you can pretty much kill early game

Harder to kill enemies will probably yield more. I mean if unhold mutagen for instance does provide some regeneration perk(which is the obvious outcome) that would be quite powerful for nimble tanks. Even if it is something like 5 hitpoints per round or whatever.

Is regen really more powerful than 10% def and 10% morale for nible tanks?

I am honestly hype for the origin, but the no confident thing is weird. Also fucks with the ebin witcher master warrior vibe. First thing I'm doing is modding it out in exchange for sell price cost or unable to hire nobles or something.

It will probably be more powerful only when you get those ledgers filled and have several bros with 2 or 3 potions taken.

I do agree the morale restriction is silly. I will probably mod it out as well. Recruitment restriction makes more sense considering the origin description(body snatching weirdo rejects who are sometimes mistaken for necromancers)

My predictions:
Orc mutagen - your troops will hit harder or rarely route, doubt they would give the charge
Hexe mutagen - all i can think of is either charm resistance or a way to break charms
Alp mutagen - bonus stats for fighting at night, a much better version of night owl trait
Wolf mutagen - kind of like the wolf mantle, some sort of resolve debuff for enemy maybe
Hyena mutagen - maybe fire resistance? or something to do with their acidic saliva?

Imagine if orc berserker mutagen gave out a variation of their "rage" perk:

Rage builds up rage-stacks, each rage stack grants +2% +1 +1-1 +1 , gains 2 rage stacks for each successful attack and 5 for each kill. The user will lose 1 stack on the start of each turn. Maximum damage reduction is 70%.

Nah. Too fucking powerful for what is also an enemy that is somewhat easily killable early game.
