Oh well. Still looking forward to what they are working on. The more companies we have making isometric RPGs, the more chance some of these RPGs will turn out good.

You'd think so, if the laws of the universe applied.
But, I'm afraid the typewriters are broken, and the infinite amount of monkeys are back to flinging shit.

Baldur's Age 3 lol

The only hope for this series was The Black Hound, and it's dead. Now it's just synonymous with generic fantasy rpg, with waifus for all tastes, and maximum dorkyness and kitschyness. A trend started with "look mah, me dumb fighter with a cutey hamster" BG2, curse its name.

Black Hound was only called BG3 for legal reasons, JES wasn't particularly happy about it.

You also described the first one, which had the dorkiness, Minsc, and the waifus (Lukas Kristjanson confirmed that they added romances in BG2 because so many people on the forums discussed how they LARPed them as they played).

So the takeaway from this story is that enhanced editions of 20 year old RPGs sell so well that Beamdog can now afford to pay their employees for working on throwaway "exploration" projects.

But......but.....but..... but in that case what are we suppose to bitch about next year????? :(
They said they will announce very soon what they are working on next. Hate for beamdog runs deep in Codexia so I am sure you all can hate whatever they announce next.

The Glorious Codexia doesn't work like that. Feed the beast with something very nice and it will purr like a kitten.

Ravenloft, man, those were the days. I have such fond memories of that game.
At my age back then, I barely understood what I was doing, but just wandering
through the world and soaking in the atmosphere. I think I played it on a mate's
Atari ST, or did he still have his Commodore 64...

So, that means Arcanum is still on the table, or has Chris a special clause in
his contract, that specifies that the words Arcanum and Wolves won't
be ushered, as long as he's with the company?

Yes, because it perfectly viable to compare CRPGs to genres where players only play one game perpetually for hundreds or even thousands of hours. :retarded:

The truth is, competition is healthy. The more iso RPGs we have, the more developers need to make effort to stand out, which is good for us.

And if they fail, we will all be happy to ridicule them in the usual way.

Context. Dota has never been surpassed (MANY have tried) and managed even to downgrade itself when moving from WC3. UO has never been surpassed, and god knows many have tried. Not a single looker among the bunch that followed those two.
But I agree, more CRPGs is actually better, you never know i want to believe etc.

A rejected pitch most likely.

But they'll never say: "We pitched a Planescape game to WotC, but they turned us down." I don't think anyone is as happy to flaunt their failures as Obsidian.

Where can I find the discussion what's wrong with wotc? To me it seems they are managing their ip as if it was something sacred not to be touched again.

Inxile already raped the corpse of planescape torment, beamdog not doing it as well is great news.
