I just read that the game apparently asked for your SSN...

Lmao I was taught as far back as Runescape to never enter your personal details like your SSN or password into the game. I guess people will fall for it if it's a cute girl doing it.

Probably afraid that they might be legally liable for something.
Pretty sure it's this one.
This is even worse than simping for e-thots.

To the casual observer, this conversation would be incredibly boring, but Iris was having the time of her life discussing these points with someone who clearly knew what they were talking about, and it was getting her more and more entranced by this gorgeous man.

“So many niche tax credits… the EIC, the AOC & CEC, the BOFA, the FIC…”

Iris raised her eyebrows, “sorry to interrupt, but what’s BOFA? I’ve never heard of that acronym. Sorry, I probably seem so dumb right now.”

“No, this has actually been quite an enlightening conversation. The BOFA refers to ‘both of these nuts’ of course,” he said it in such a serious tone it took Iris a while to realize what he had just said. She stared at him, unable to decipher his meaning. Was he flirting with her? Or was he just making a really dumb joke… he raised a single eyebrow, causing her to burst out laughing.

“Could you repeat that?” She asked, still chuckling.

“I said… it means both of these nuts,” he repeated in a slightly deeper voice.

Hi there! Iris here~
It’s always been a dream of mine to meet that special someone…and file their tax return. Join me and we’ll search for deductions while searching for love!
But be careful! We’re not alone. Corporate tax filing services like TurboTax are (by dint of extensive lobbying) predatory, parasitic bottlenecks that deliberately complicate the tax filing process in order to make it unnavigable by ordinary people. They feed us their poison so that we buy their medicine!
Most wealthy countries make tax filing free, if the burden of preparation is even passed along to individuals at all. TurboTax actively seeks to backdoor the regulatory structure that could otherwise seek to rein it in. And it works! The villainous corporation that controls the government from the shadows is a sadly mundane reality. It’s the most boring industry imaginable.
TurboTax, per its own internal documents, is built on the “Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt” that ordinary people have about their taxes. Against this, we pit free software instead built on parasocial desire for intimacy and benign horniness! If TurboTax is Dark UI, TH3K is Pink UI, the nightcore of tax software.
Videogames are, at the end of the day, pieces of software–ontologically akin to Microsoft Word. All of TurboTax’s cutesy loading animations are fake graphics; TH3K simply makes the fiction the point. For some reason the game-to-real-life interface has tended to remain in the purview of corporate metaverse fictions. TH3K is a dongle that adapts from a visual novel to the IRS.
Come on, let’s get started! I can already tell I’m going to like you ♥ And remember, if you die in the game you die in real life if you file your taxes in the game, you file your taxes in real life.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TurboTax
TurboTax is a software package for preparation of American income tax returns, produced by Intuit. TurboTax is a market leader in its product segment, competing with H&R Block Tax Software and TaxAct. TurboTax was developed by Michael A. Chipman of Chipsoft in 1984 and was sold to Intuit in 1993.

The company has been subject of controversy over its political influence and deceptive business practices. Intuit, the maker of TurboTax, has lobbied extensively against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) creating its own online system of tax filing like those that exist in most other wealthy countries. Intuit is under investigation by multiple state attorneys general, as well as New York State Department of Financial Services.

As part of an agreement with the IRS Free File program, TurboTax allowed individuals making less than $39,000 a year to use a free version of TurboTax; a 2019 ProPublica investigation revealed that TurboTax deliberately made this version hard to find, even through search engines, and that it deceptively steered individuals who search for the free version to TurboTax versions that cost money to use. TurboTax has tricked military service members to pay to use the filing software by creating and promoting a "military discount" and by making the free version hard to find when many service members are in fact eligible to use the software for free.

Lol, I think I know what happened

An unsavory SaaS bro, quick to anger and oddly fixated on Iris. He seems to be up to no good...

Likes: Corporate lobbying, confusing forms, dark UX, fleece vests

Very few things worse than simping, being a cuckhold or a pedo would beat it, but thats about it.

Imagine a game where the protag's thighs are the most interesting element... If she was wearing normal pants there wouldn't be any sequels.

Any series that puts fans first is something worth looking into, even if at first glance you feel its not your thing.
I havent played the atelier games, but I have looked into them and they seem like fun shit.

They're absolutely worth trying out if the... aesthetics are your thing and a deep crafting system interests you. The Dusk trilogy (Ayesha-Escha&Logy-Shallie) is a favorite of many including mine.

Atelier games have time limited plots and expect you to understand their crafting mechanics to succeed. They are too hardcore for most of the codex.
The new ones don't, especially not Ryza which, from what I've heard, you can complete without using the alchemy at all.
