Eh, I played the originals recently because holiday sale and they weren't that great anyway either. Standard FPS + gimmick stuff. Meaning shooter with some other mechanic thrown on to pretend it's not just another a shooter, kind of like that The Darkness game for instance where you had tentacles and shit but they weren't really necessary most of the time. I barely ever used my plasmids except when they game forced me to because, if you aren't playing with a game pad and can aim, just shooting everything in the head in a shooter is almost always more effective. Also the entire reason to use little girls as ADAM carriers felt like an incredibly contrived scheme to play off the whole "little girls are creepy (because we abuse them)" trend in horror.

In 2008 videogames said to regular assholes: "We are gonna brazenly use the most crassly manipulative emotional images on you in the most callow ways possible until you are so calloused and inured that you cannot feel empathy for a fellow human being, we will check on your progress in 2015 or so"

I don't remember the marketing, but honestly so what? It's a shooter with cool environments to look around in and neat weapons/plasmids. I don't need it to be more than that, I like that.

I replayed the original recently and have 2 on my HDD at the moment. They're fun. Looking forward to this one, with Dead Space 3 sounding fucked the hell over this is the only shooter in the first half of 2013 worth playing anywhere near release, as far as I can tell.

More of the same = yawn. Plus, while i think Levin is a decent writer as far as gaming standards go, the Jew is just too strong on this one. Lol the history of Amerikwa is evil 'n shit, no way he's projecting his own racial prejudice here at all, no sir.

Also, bloom. Mother of god, the motherfucking bloom. This is going to be nothing more then Bioshock on clouds.

I'm not going to leap to it being 'Amerikwa is evil' n shit' (though that certainly matches my view of the US) - keep in mind that when he did a game criticisng Rand, he made the Randian character both awesome and one of the more sympathetic characters in the game.

My guess is that they're adding multiplayer, or multiple endings with moral choice crap, or some other useless shit that the publisher wants to be in the game in order to look competitive with other titles. That, or they don't want to compete with a particular game coming out during their original release window (GTA V, Blops 2, etc.)... or it's just PR-speak for "we would have had to cut a ton of content to hit our release date, but our publisher relented and let us have more time." All of them are equally plausible come to think of it.
But delaying it to make a better game isn't? Shit, you're jaded.

And also, I see that all the kwan and wannabe-kwan neocons from GD has come over to be butthurt about this game. That's cute ^_^

Maybe. Over time I've learned that publishers almost never do things "out of the goodness of their hearts." Game quality only matters if the game really is just awful or unacceptable for sale.

Very true. Though every so often that greed for more sales, does turn the game into a better one.

I suspect the Randian came across sympathetic to some because he was the typical techno-progressivist sort. Same basic ideology most nerds have just a different attempt at implementation (i.e. pure libertarianism rather than statist socialism). To me, what he rather came across as instead, whether intentionally written to be or not, was the modern successful man without a classical style education. Meaning, literature, history, philosophy, arts and so forth. He has read some on his own no doubt, but you see more and more towards the end he, like many wealthy and powerful people in our culture, has concocted some philosophically amateurish belief system full of pseudo-religious symbolism that is mostly an incoherent mixture of various things he's stumbled across combined with his own idiosyncrasies and emotional fixations. He believes this to be a strength to boot, part of his fantasy of himself being a self-made god man.

Basically, to me he represented the danger of a situation where wealth and modern industry allow individuals to become very powerful without them having had much in the way of familiarity with the history of ideas and cultural history or proper formal intellectual and philosophical training. Very much in fact what a lot of people now think you no longer need because humanities is not relevant or rigorous. This is dangerous even more so in his case because he has even more power in the form of modern technology at his command than a successful man in the past would have but at the same time, due to the Dunning-Kruger effect I suppose, he believes himself to be far more intelligent and educated than he really is. This is played up when the con-man says he prefers the mark who thinks he knows it all to the one who knows he doesn't. Essentially, the whole first game to me sounded like a perfect parable for how industrial capitalism is presented as some kind of heroic progress towards developing a new, better world but it just ends up being run from the shadows by gangsters playing off people's naivete, greed, and egoism.

I *somewhat* liked Bioshock but this just sounds boring. I more liked the whole underwater setting.

You know, I'm personally not excited about it because it will be totally on rails with no real choices or consequences besides the vaguely situational ones that are done at the end of a level.
However, a good friend of mine is pumped and will most likely get it.

The beginning of this year was quite abysmal: DS3 with running zombies, Tomb Raider with QTEs. The only thing I would play is Underrail, but that's not finished.
In other words, I'm looking forward to play Bioshock. The first games had some decent narratives (except the second half of the first Bioshock)... so, who knows, it might have something to offer.
