I don't understand. Neither Shodan nor Big Daddy are AI companions(unless he is telling the big daddu is a companion for lil sisters). And let's face it, if there is a evolution of AI companions, it was not made by this hack or his games.

Is Bioshock Infinite an RPG? Because it has gear

Gear2.png

As explained by creative director Ken Levine, "You have to, at that moment, choose one of those. There's a thing in 'Heroes of Might and Magic,' if you ever played that game. That's where I was inspired/stole the idea from. You basically get to choose one of those powers, but you have to choose right then. Then that power goes in your character sheet. And you're making a lot of those choices throughout the game. That’s the direction we're trying to go. Give you a lot of choices that you don’t have to have that same kind of cumbersome management system because you're making the choice as it happens. As you find it.

You make a choice which gear to equip and the consequence is in combat. BS:Infinite, Codex GOTY RPG of 2013

Gear doesn't make an RPG.

Besides, those aren't functionally much different from Bioshock's tonics.

Someone explain to me again why BSI looks like a flashy Disney product? Did Ken ever explain why they chose to go with a comic look?
I recall he was in some obnoxious podcast with Warren Spector and that Pitchford dude a few times, where the trio circlejerked, it's probably from that.

Because if they didn't go this way their game would look like Bioshock or worse on a 8 year old consoles. This way there is atleast an illusion the game looks better than it is in reality.

I trust Ken because he's no tool who talks tool shit. I mean he still talks shit from time to time, but that's because he's a selfish dick, not because he takes orders from above like a good corporate sheep. He doesn't try to be a marketing drone, he's just himself, and I respect that.

Shodan is an AI that is your companion in the game, duh.

I think by "companions" he was referring more broadly to the notion of "highly iconic characters who you encounter throughout the game".

Glad to see that the BioShock protagonists are still stupid enough to inject/drink any random dangerous-looking chemicals on a whim.

I have a feeling the would you kindly thing was supposed to explain that, though they somehow didn't use the term right before you use it.

Ah, fun times of drinking unidentified randomly mixed potions in M&M games.

BioShock Infinite: bringing new meaning to the term "skyboxes."

:troll:

Speaking of Ken, he didn't get into the games industry as a designer, but a writer. I think his transition to lead designer was a bad move. He's a smart guy and as a writer he has some original and creative ideas. However, his design sense is very much lacking and it was very obvious in BioShock he didn't really know what he was doing (bad shooting mechanics, silly theme park level design, poor narrative/gameplay integration). He's the kind of guy that shouldn't be helming projects himself, but giving suggestions and working out details, in my opinion.

While Infinite might not be badly designed, it's obvious the game has very little in common with his past titles and is going to be an action-packed thrill-ride instead of a slower-paced horror-shooter. All the stuff BioShock is actually notable for, like art and sound design, is not his purview. The rest of the ideas? Tiny island platforms connected by rails, and an AI helper character? Already done by other games years ago... only thing that makes this game "innovative" is once again art and sound, and the fact that it's just slightly different enough from other modern shooters out there to carve out a niche in the competitive market.

But then, that's also exactly what publishers want - which makes me think that Ken is a very smooth talker, and that's the only reason Irrational can get away with such huge delays.
