Every time I want to click on the buy button for Black Geyser, I read the consistent negative Steam reviews about the very long loading times (even with a SSD) - which is made worse with every transition from one region/room to the next. Has this been resolved as I have not seen any technical update regarding this matter?

I don't find the load times that obnoxious but I guess if you're used to PS5 style instant reloads it might be an issue.

Didn't have a problem with the load times that I recall either but I may be more tolerant of these things given my age.

Is it worth 20 bucks? How does it compare to the most obvious competitor (Pillars 1/2)?
Pillarses are more or less competitors only, their budget is way bigger than Black geyser had. Yet, Black geyser has some very cool ideas in it, sometimes as hidden gems imo
I have come to understand that this game has got the majority of maps scarce on adventure, mostly just sweep the map, kill enemies, loot three herbs and two chests, done. And if there is any adventure, it'd be usually: talk to two NPCs, pick an item from the far corner, bring to the other farner corner, done.
However, I haven't played it and I would be happy to be wrong. Is the game actually better in this regard? Are there things like points of interest, architectural riddles and puzzles, areas with several approaches possible, quests that branch with regard to skill competency or different information/items gathered?

You're expecting a lot from a BG clone. :M

It is a heavily BG inspired, low-budget but unique game. Calling it a BG clone is excessive ignorance.....

Yes, very many quests of the game are fetch quests, and very many wilderness maps are just sweep-and-loot as you said. (In a charming, nostalgic way though, so for very hardcore fans, it is like replaying Baldur's Gate wilderness maps.) So you can just skip wilderness maps and focus on the main plot - it's tens of hours long alone

On the other hand, as I said, there are hidden gems. One of the riddles (related to a "talking" plant) is very complex and cool

And the Main Plot of the game is great, so you can just skip side quests if you want. Many players do that. You can also generate a full custom party now if you don't want companions or companion quests.

Just look it up what their Steam players said - some cool Riddles in the game:

Much appreciated. I like to cross-reference what people say, so I asked several times. I may yet give it a chance then.

It's easily worth 20 bucks, you can definitely have some fun with it. All the essentials are there in good order, including its own particular build system that you have to come to grips with. It's less "AAA" than the Pillars games - more barebones, less polished, intricate and complex overall, with less fluff and QOL - but I'd say it's a good indie game, and yes, worth a run at the price.

I don't have any loading time issues and I installed it on my secondary SSD.
I bought it yesterday, seems fun so far. Character system a bit less transparent than Pillars of Eternity, could def use more tooltips. Dev had to be "original" with damage types, did "blow" really need to be a damage type?

That said first impression is good, def feels like more of a BG game than Pillars did.

Of course, it's a BG clone, not affected by Sawyerysm or other unnecessary bullshit. This is basically a loveletter to old and simple times, done by guys with a big heart but not as talented as original Black Isle developers. Surprisingly game is still developed, long afer it went gold. They want to add strongholds and more quests and much more major stuff, instead of moving on into another project.

This sounds like PoE but without lore dumps and retarded ideas like Endurance and "per encounter" garbage

They promisse engaging side quests for the sequel on their discord channel, I truly hope that's the case because most side quests are currently pretty Fed Ex ( some are still fun tho even as Fed ex)

For transparency, ruleset yes, I can recommend two additiional things:
- there is a pdf manual in the game 's install folder
- they published an update after the most recent balance up date: https://forums.grapeocean.com/index.php?topic=100.0

Playing and completing Fallout 2 on a 90mhz Pentium processor has trained me to be ex-fucking-tremely tolerant of load times lol.
