That concept art is amazing.

That's the kind of post-apocalyptic area I want to explore. Why does it always have to be a barren wasteland in most post-apocalpytic games/movies/books? There was a recent documentary thing about what cities would look like in a true post-apocalyptic setting (IE, no humans) and it looked much like that: trees/greenery overgrowing the buildings and cities and all that.

I love this shit.

What? What documentary was that? My friend LOVES the "abandoned city overgrown with trees and greenery" idea, do you know where you saw it and what it was called?

I found the whole thing on youtube, it's called "Aftermath: Population Zero"

There's apparently another one called "Life After People" that was an ongoing series, looks like some of it is on youtube as well.

I'm reading a book right now called 'The World Without Us', there might have been a documentary made by the same guy, really interesting stuff.

Well yeah, the original Wasteland wasn't as barren as Fallout. There were trees, brooks, grass... Just look at Highpool. That will be awesome, I mean if they put some diversity in the game. Of course I want to be able to roam radioactive desert, just like in the original, too... :smug:

MCA said:
I think a mix of environments should set it apart from other post-apoc games, and the Scorpitron image is pretty telling. Confining it to a single environment type with a single color filter can get exhausting for players.

When I see people refer to Chris Avellone as "MCA" I picture him halfway through the process of unbuttoning his shirt on the cover of Teen Beat magazine. Where did that get started and what does the M stand for?
It was chosen by RPG Codex, I believe because people didn't want to spell my last name. It stands for "Mr. Chris Avellone."

In terms of Teen Beat, funny you should mention it, courtesy of MegaCynics: http://www.megacynics.com/2011/07/22/teen-idols/

Mister? Master?

It 'twould be "Mister," yes
Sorry. Couldn't figure out how to quote reddit properly. I thought MCA stood for "Master Chris Avellone" and that it wasn't started at the Codex but at NMA. Master, presumably as in The Master. I never did hear about how that got started exactly.

I think he only worked on Fallout 2, not the first one. I still don't know what the M is supposed to be, though.

NMA? I always thought it came from the Interplay forums, and did indeed initially stand for Master.

Strange. I don't remember seeing it on the Interplay forums. The first time I can remember seeing it was when I first came by here around 04 or 05. I think I may even have asked about it. I think that's when I was told that it came from NMA. It's kind of funny that Chris thinks we use the term because we don't want to spell his last name. I wouldn't use it if the M just stood for Mister. There's got to be a story behind the whole MCA thing. Someone here must know it.

The M stands for Mister. I don't know how it came about, but we on the Codex call him MCA. The people over at NMA call him CFA, I think the F stands for Fucking.

The concept looks nice but what's the point of a tank having a tail? I mean six legs make sense in a wasteland, but the tail looks stupid.

This comes from WL1 but the new one is even more weird from an engineering point of view.

I guess I belong to the small fraction that prefers a low tech approach.

But good that they stick to the original.

One only needs to replace clima, plants, animals, and objects with the ones from the US.

But what stays the same is that cities generally turn into forests.

If the buildings are very solid, it can take a long time until they dissappear.
