Interesting point, but in case of Half Life 2, because it is a very linear scripted game, it is more focused on the events and the action that happen than the main character that is basically a surrogate for the player, Half Life 2 doesnt expect you to emote for the main character situation. Also, you spend ALOT of time without talking with anyone and when you "talk", it is more like the characters are breaking the fourth wall to engage with the player than talking with a real character, Gordon Freeman is a floating gun. Half Life 2 and Cyberpunk make very different uses of first person camera.Yet you have legion of normies wanking over Half life 2 "awesome" story explain and I bet that our pop a mole king Act man is one of those normies.Yeah?
Competently directed cutscenes i.e. Witcher 3 do a far better job of engaging people in the narrative than this Half Life method of letting players jerk themselves off in the corner of a room while characters talk about what's happening.
Cyberpunk tries to be alot more emotional with the whole V gonna die thing, you may find it retarded but this youtuber guy isnt the first one to complain about first person and this is actually an old argument, there is something about first person and voiced protagonists with stabilished personalities, especially emotional voiced protagonists. If you cant see the face, you sort of lose a part of the message, what isnt a problem if you arent trying to make people emote with that character.
Strangely enough, if you remove the voice and make the lines more neutral, you end having more emotion from some players because the part of the brain that makes assumptions takes control and create an emotional tone on the player mind, this process is called Apophenia. One possible explanation why some people feel that way is like emotional tone from a voiced protagonist doesnt allow that process of Apophenia to happen so people unconsciously seek for emotional cues on the enviroment and the lack of emotional feedback from a face and body can become annoying because voice alone is a really weak way of conveying emotion. Anyway, I didnt mind it that much but I see how some people might get annoyed with it.
