84 in late 10's literally means "shit tier". Glad we cleared that up before it even came out.
You are a fucking idiot, with a "shit tier" IQ. I'm tired of your drivel. There, I just wanted to get this off of my chest before I ignore you.
It's OK that you didn't fight back bro.

You were young and those bullies were older than you...

Fake news, I agree on the first image, but sites and magazines before them had a tendency to give 8s and 9s very easily to big names even in the 90s and early 00s.
Actually, I think in recent years they've been starting to drop the values at least a bit (although they're still way too high), as proved by Fallout 4 having a metascore of 84 (compared with 91 of Fallout 3), Fallout 76 at 52, Anthem at 54. I mean, of course they're shit in all possible ways (especially the last two, since they didn't even work properly at release) but no way a Bethesda or BioWare game would've received less than 7/7,5 even just a few years ago. Just look at Jade Empire, an average rpg that does nothing better than neither KotOR nor Mass Effect, doesn't even feature good graphics and still has a 89 metascore.

I want a weighted scale from 0 to 10, where the average of all games is 5. Everything else is meaningless.

This is dumb as fuck. Games could have a really bad or good year. You'd then have to fuck with the numbers to meet your approved average. Meaning that your system would be even less useful than the broken one we have now.

At least now we can say a reviewer probably fucking hated something if they gave it 7/10. Aiming for an average of 5 across the board really gives you no point of navigation because they might be mostly dogshit, with generous scores handed out to meet the average

The problem is that it would be a sliding scale that would be time-dependent.
There is no "problem".

1- We copy its original score for historical purpose into a separate column (when it came out, it was a 80!).
2- We constantly keep adjusting scores, so it accounts to today's context. Baldur's Gate would still rank super high even today. But some Evil Islands which was received very warmly at release would be useless today.

So if the average game is *bad*
The average game is average.

Back in 90's a PC Zone (popular English game magazine, Charlie Brooker maker of Black Mirror started there) editor tried to start scoring games more realistically with a five being average etc. Think it lasted a couple of issues and shortly after bloke got shitcanned. Don't think its journalists only favouring scoring scale.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Bester can’t you take the scores we have and massage that data set into a 1-10 system? So if the mean is 75, that’s a 5 etc... I remember being able to do this with my calculator, but I no longer remember how.

I do that. The average nowadays is sitting at about 85. As you can see from this thread, people get butt mad when I mention it. FNV is below average, for example. Look at the ratings this post will now get.

A person called you a cunt. You made it out like some collective opposition to you.

If anything, there seems to be a general consensus in the codex that modern scores are extremely generous.

I'd add that you don't exactly invite polite discourse with how you express yourself. Which is fine, but if you're surprised by aggressive responses, you may have autism

What does he mean by "demoted to employees"? Did the former owners (other than Feargus) lose their fancy COO/CTO/etc titles? Does Feargus still own a stake in the company while the others lost it?

Yeah, to give credit where it's due, Angry Joe actually uses the proper 5 = average metric. He's the biggest videogame personality that does so afaik.

I respect that he's fairly more honest than other reviewers even though his opinions and my opinions don't jive. He seems mostly consistent with what to expect from him, he still uses an older style of humor for his videos that makes it feel corny in the current year, but hell he is straight up about shit. I'd rather hear a solid honest opinion than a "oh please don't take away my review copies for your next game" opinion.
