Stop using the mouse ffs. Gothic 1/2 are designed to be played with the keyboard only and you'll get used to it in two minutes and find it both faster and more comfortable.

You dumb fucking niggers. You probably believe Doom was keyboard-only too.

Why would you do this to yourselves? Why do you want to have shit aim? Learn how to make good binds ffs LMAO

‘controller is better because muh comfy couch!!!1’ <-- literally u

Jasederp is half-german so he can be excused for being half-retarded but the rest of you fuckers need to stop being literally retarded and use the goddamn mouse already. if gothic was competitive multiplayer you'd all get buttraped in the ass

Check zMouseRotationScale in gothic2.ini
I explicitly noted changing the rotation speed affects only the horizontal axis and you still managed to ignore it.

Once you have it dialed in, there's no mouse issues.
No, there are still plenty of issues:
1) no raw input
2) Y axis is not affected at all

So just shut up and install the mod motherfucker

Gothic 1/2 are designed to be played with the keyboard
Then why does it have not one, not two but three mouse related settings (smoothing, sensitivity, and rotation speed)? The problem is all three are badly implemented and the mod fixes that.

I just don't see why you'd ever need to turn left or right quickly in Gothic 1. The entire game is designed around you never needing to. Wow, I can give myself motion sickness by spinning around faster, big whoop.

Gothic 1 didn't even have mouse controls or at least they were just an afterthought.

They added these for mousetards so they wouldn't cry, but never actually tested the options because nobody sane would attempt to use a mouse for a keyboard game.

Let me guess, you also play the Sims with a guitar hero controller and sim city with a steering wheel?

Gothic 1 has mouse controls. I know because I used them. I don't care if they're from some later patch, they're there and they're better.

It's not about precision aiming, it's just about being able to turn quickly and intuitively and COMFORTABLY. Why the hell would I prefer to hold a bunch of seperate buttons to turn at fixed rates when I can just turn as fast as I actually want to? It's not a question of getting used to shit controls, because the game already supports better. This is just an old man's stubbornness.

Again, the same shit is said about Doom, which also doesn't ‘need’ quick turning, but it's all bullshit. I don't care what the developers might have actually used themselves, the feature is good if you actually bother to use it instead of being a pussybitch and refusing.

I mean what do you even LOSE by using the mouse? Can you explain that? What the hell is it that supposedly makes the mouse uncomfortable?

Why would I want to turn quickly in a game designed around tank controls? It doesn't make any sense.

I can tell you that the quick spinning in the video you linked made me sick to my stomach. Your hero isn't meant to turn that quickly.

Arguing with you people is hopeless. You're supposed to play Gothic using only your left hand only while your right hand holds a beer. It was designed with German efficiency in mind. The Poles can substitute a kielbasa.

Why do you think the game was designed around tank controls?

Because I've never felt the need to turn quickly in it and no combat encounter ever required turning swiftly.

On the contrary, turning too fast might have you miss items in the ground.

What is that, the 360-no-item technique? Just stop turning. Use your eyes.

REASONS TO USE KEYBOARD-ONLY:
  • I have motion sickness
  • I'm blind
  • I can't handle using two hands
  • Change is bad!
  • I just don't like it
I guess those are subjectively valid but that doesn't mean you have to insist that everyone play with your handicap. Mouse controls have no issues if you decide to use them. You see, I play shooters, so I want to use the mouse, so I did, and it was good. Mouse is objectively superior unless it's just completely broken (which it wasn't when I played). NO the game doesn't need it but it probably doesn't even need the keyboard either.

Why is this even a thing that needs to be argued? This is just because people can't comprehend the jank Dark Vengeance control scheme. I already played that game (with a mouse!) so I already knew what was up. What's DV, you ask? Don't worry about that.

Are there more 1h dex weapons in the game? The blacksmith in the first village seems to sell a load of 1h DEX swords . In fact, when it comes to STR weapons it seems that most of them are 2h. I might be looking too much into the guy's random inventory though.

I picked up skinning as usual for gold making though going for blacksmithing and crafting my own weapon is more tempting than in G2 with all the weapon variety that the mod seems to have.

Weapons that scale damage with strength require dexterity and those scaling with dexterity have a strength requirement.

I recall there being a good spread of melee dex weapons, and str ranged weapons. Their uuge damage numbers were supposed to offset the fact that you need to invest in both str and dex to get the most mileage out of them. Considering scaling learning costs and this meaning that you'd benefit from all attribute raising items, 1h dex + crossbow build can get OP quite quickly!

There are some 2h dex-based weapons (polearms), but I think that 1h has a better spread of those.

A small update on my playthrough: I am around level 14, chapter 2 still doing quests around the city and exploring the surrounding area. I have a better armour and weapon and most fights are ok unless we are talking bears or anything/anyone with a ranged weapon. Exploration is excellent and very rewarding and I like that there are multiple ways to solve some quests.

I still have not decided on an apprenticeship. I am using a 1h STR wep so going for skinning seems pointless unless using bows; I think that BS would be much much better but traditionally skinning gives a truckload of gold in Gothic games and at least here it seems that you always need more gold...

There's enough LP in the game to pick up a bit of everything, especially if you're not going mage. Also, at some point you are able to pick a second master, which lets you learn all they have to teach as well, although you'll not get all their sidequests.

Gothic 2 best with KB and mouse

It's true, Gothic 1 is meant to be played with keyboard only.

...using two hands, the arrow keys, and minimal strafing. Only real reason M+KB would actually be bad is if you were still using the arrow keys.

Though I'm curious as to why you say no mouse for Gothic 1 specifically? All it does is improve aiming, and since that doesn't matter at all to begin with, it can't break the game. So, it's not like using the mouse-look mod in System Shock, where the difference in controls lowers the difficulty so much you aren't even really playing the same game anymore. I've yet to play Gothic 2, is mouse control improved in that game in some way? (but liek, its already purrfect)

I don't know, but it just feels right
Likely because Gothic 1 was made with and for kb only, and Gothic 2 was made with and for kb&m
When played like this you can imagine yourself as a young Björn Pankratz playing as it was intended

But 99% of a developer's time is spent playing an unfinished game that probably has nothing even remotely resembling coherent gameplay. And once it's done they never touch it again because fuck that lmao
