There are lvl 6 checks in Act one
Which you can reach just fine. It's really hard to lock yourself out unless you're intentionally missing content or rolling some Jack of Trade build that's spreading itself too much.

How does build tie into this? Only thing increasing skill gain is Skill Monkey and Mastermind.
Um, actually using a skill?

How is that a build?

You pick a dedicated specialist and have him use it all the time.

Will get more complicated as more party members are introduced but there is no choice here currently.

Only choice seems to be whether to take skill monkey on the guy using the skill.
A character who starts with lockpicks. Tags it. Then puts a point into it will have 4. Right, if you did most of the lockpick checks at Pit - which you should easily be able with 4 - you'll hit 5. Already you're ahead the curve. Now you just keep doing the content that you're specialized into and eventually it will reach those thresholds. Plus the token you'll easily hit six on a 4 int build. You have to intentionally be missing content to "lock" yourself.

Mentally healthy people can play freely as they please because that's what learn by using system is for

How?

Missing something here is much worse than in AoD, and the penalty is also steeper - in AoD you could use SP from combat path to shore up diplomatic path, here you don't have that luxury. So if you are behind the curve you'll stay behind it with no option but to reload.
By "freely" I meant still something cohesive of course. It's hard to fall behind the curve as things stand now. Like you said yourself, focusing on killing is easy, for instance. But relying on non-combat skills perhaps even easier. Only trying to cover as much as possible is hard, just as it was in AoD.

Missing content isn't supposed to stop you from beating the game. But some people lose their shit regardless over the very fact they cannot cover enough/all in one playthrough.

Lockpicking is also a bad example, since there are very little locations where you can miss skill checks - only a few areas which you can't access without stealth. Usually if you kill or diplo your way through the locks remain, not the case with other skills.

How to make an alliance between the Pit and the Brotherhood happen? Also, I've got to say, the electronic version of classic Western motifs I heard in the Habitat is god damn amazing.

Don't find anything wrong with how skill checks work, my only qualms is that progression slows drastically in the "mid" game (by the time you reach the Habitat) and that raising defensive skills in a large party is a problem, with yours and enemy accuracy constantly getting higher you'll reach a point where neither side misses (usually the Factory)

Hmm. Good point. I've seen someone bring this up on steam forum regarding full party play. I've been itching to try a full party run myself to see how it feels, but for some reason, I don't like how slow the combat feels compared to duo or solo play.

Defensive skills in a party are also kinda pointless, the AI will go out of its way to target the most vulnerable party member.

You can influence selection through body blocking and cover, but tagging a defensive skill for just one member seems pointless.

The AI goes for the easiest targets, not anyone specific.

Far from it, based on the player-submitted builds and saves.

Don't think you can do that since none of the Pit's possible leaders are interested. Supposedly there's a special Brotherhood quest available if you mess up trying to negotiate with the Black Hand or fail the stealth section in the Factory, but it didn't trigger properly for me when I tried it.

You can't do it yet as such things take time, but to get this ball rolling you need to complete the traitor quest first (Hanson won't discuss it further until the leak is dealt with), but without involving Abraham who wants the opposite; AND you need to get the data from the spy and take it to Silas; then he'll send you to Hanson.

Don't forget PSI mutation.
What is this? Another thing that isn't in the game yet?

Is it possible to get fuel cells for romeo in the current version? (It's amazing how much easier combat gets when you use a disruptor)

It's actually kinda funny how the ai will ignore finishing off a 3hp guy because evans is sitting there with 5% higher chance to be hit.

Where are these 4 PC builds which greatly benefited from defensive tags?

From looking at the steam thread maybe a minority of the 4p has armor tag on Jed.

After doing a fetch hunt quest in hydroponics involving frog brains you can get a feat from serum injection which improves overtime with stim use. You can only select one stim and each has different effect. They have 3 levels. PSI stim feat lvl3 improves skill learning rate. Aggro gives 1 AP, Regen bonus 5hp and regen.

I think Para is talking about 4 character parties, not solo play

It depends on a number of factors, not just accuracy. Armor and HP are also taken into consideration. A 3HP target should get to the top of the list unless in cover or activated gadget (no reason to waste shots if the target is hard to hit). 5% difference shouldn't be a factor, so we'll take another look at the target selection criteria. Either way, it's work in progress until the game is released.
