I'm very into cock and ball torture
I think I'm going to cry.

Wow. This is the worst. It really is. I don't even know what to say without crying like a little bitch. This studio produces some of the highest quality RPGs and they're going to shutdown. Where's the justice man.

Already more games out there than I'll be able to play in this short little life of mine. Shame they couldn't figure out what compromises were necessary to make it work, but I'm barely going to notice the loss of a single cook in the kitchen when I'm struggling not to vomit at an impossibly vast banquet.

The forums for Iron Tower have went offline. The end is upon us. It's really happening. My favorite studio is gonna die...

All these years... I took Iron Tower for granted... Man... why do I have to lose something until I realize how much it means to me :(
Closing forums with an active forumbase is a dick move, doubly so doing it without a warning. The devs do it to their most loyal die-hard fans.

That's sad to see it happen, though not entirely surprising. I just created another character, designing it completely myself instead of using the Diplomat preset, and it's a lot more playable. The biggest problem with the Diplomat skill character is that you feel punished for taking it—combat gets skipped, replaced with a few lines of text. It feels as if Dungeon Master Vince doesn’t take the Diplomat player seriously and just sends them to the corner with a coloring book and crayons. It completely removes the sense of gameplay.

In contrast, I made a Pistolero build with high crit and evasion, and I’m not running into trouble so far. Doing encounters makes the game much more satisfying. However, I still believe that Evan’s companion can’t handle the first fight on their own—there’s always the possibility of bad rolls. Meanwhile, my character had an 89% accuracy on a headshot.

I’m pretty sure many new players will invest a bit of skill points into everything and end up getting shredded. They might give up and put the demo aside, which could harm sales more than help. This is one of the rare times I think there should be a disclaimer on the character creation screen or a little note above the presets to guide players on which choices are the most sustainable.

I've read dungeon rats wasn't that profitable, but it probably would have been a better business model to make smaller more digestible games rather than spend 6-7 years making colony ship. Which clearly had way too much scope to deliver their vision.

I very much enjoyed Age of Decadence and Colony Ship. The CYOA style was not a detriment to my enjoyment, as it was a concise way to express branching choice which I value over presentation. It was also a fairly unique implementation compared to many other cRPGs that are linear murderfests.

Iron Tower will be missed.

Combat-speech is the most difficult hybrid to play in AoD. You don't get much combat bonuses from investment in speech skills and speech makes you miss a lot of combat. This is because speech and combat are basically mutually exclusive skills. Colony Ship is the same

If you really want to play hybrid, play combat-tech or combat-stealth

Second run over. Fun build, alpha strikes are very potent, but it has the problem of evading damage. I guess I had to invest more in stealth, cloaking device sometimes helps a lot and would be much better with high stealth skill. Or max evasion

I made a hard save before faction/cyborgs fork to play two more good combat encounters in Armory, but overall stick to Protectors. Soloing brotherhood visit without two overpowered cyborgs is quite a challenge. Couldn't do the wave fight at the very end, after wave one I am all out of pulse grenades and don't have any cells anymore. I can do it with regular shotgun but I still need EMP to drop shields

I can do five cyborgs with this build, but by that point I don't have science skill to evoke this option and not enough energy ammo.

It's not even savescummy, I don't think any of the battles took me more than three or four attempts. The only exception is the serpent, I tried to kill him like ten times but he always had 4-10HP before killing me. But this is because I was stoned and forgot that cloaking device can buy me a lot of time to kill him. Took one try this way.

Again no headgear. Important characters don't wear hats

GB2jvEjADeE.jpg

Just like this - both turrets drop in the first turn (two EMPs spent) and then robot loses half of his HP, drops in the middle of turn two

LEopGKN0bGs.jpg

This is still turn 1, only one froggy survives. Laser attacks required only to take out floater quickly, froggies are good for regular shotgun

Gameplay wise a build like this reminds me of Underrail a lot, there high DMG glass cannons play exactly the same. But Underrail is still simpler. In Underrail you are not forced to do battles in an arena (this is what encounters in Colony Ship and Dungeon Rats are, arenas) and have far consumables to throw around

RPG players, in general, like freeform encounters more than arena likes. But arena likes allow developer to remove AI abuse like doorfighting or LoS break, so pick your fancy

Narrative wise I stand by my opinion, not siding with cyborgs seems like a massively inferior choice

I don't believe your stealth skill has any bearing on the way the cloaking device behaves in combat, only the upgrades you make to the item itself matter and are being compared directly to the enemies' thermal vision.
