Grand Strategy Crusader Kings III

Strategy Gamer review.

TL;DR - "Crusader Kings III is undoubtedly one of – if not the – best strategy releases of the past few years. By building on the Game of Thrones-style drama and intrigue that its predecessor excelled at, it makes for engrossing gameplay that combines the best of the grand strategy and RPG genres. With Paradox pushing hard to make CK3 much more accessible to an unfamiliar mainstream audience, there has never been a better time to take a leap and see why this series has inspired such a dedicated fanbase.

While it may not yet have all the bells and whistles of its predecessor, this is possibly the most polished a mainline Paradox title has ever been at launch."

I still can't understand why anyone would want to play a medieval game but at the condition that it's all gay.

I can't wrap my head around that. Are we living the most absurd era of the time of man ? How ironic considering all the rational thinking and machinery at our disposal.

There are 40 nuanced dev diaries and hours of people just playing the game available.

A huge CK2 nerd liking the game though, is a good sign for vets of the series.

Even if the rest of the game is a dive (which seems unlikely at this point), I'm going to have so much fun with the new religion mechanics.

What, you'd rather he wasn't a fan of CK2?

You can do a ton of daft things with the game rules. Picking that out in particular is just alarmist nonsense, frankly. Stop 'looking to be offended'.

Not everyone who doesn't understand why you'd want to gayify the middle ages would be mad about it.
I will play CK3 and hopefully have tons of fun with it.

I still -and I'm sorry if you don't either- don't understand how Middle Age Simulation + Gay paradise mix. I don't get it.

I'm not offended in the slightest, I legitimately want to meet someone who will see this feature and think "now that's a good addition". I legitimately want to, and my curiosity will be satisfied.

To clarify on this : I understand why you'd want fantasy stuff in your game, or to randomize the map, or to define your custom character and house. Or to worship the devil etc. I don't necessarily like all of that, but it makes sense.

Yeah I'm not gonna trust a review by anyone that's played CK2 before. Hell, better yet, guy oughta be a complete stranger to computer games. His last played game better have been Sudoku on iOS.

.

I am literally going play this and I think it's a great idea to be able to toggle so many things. I am going to convert entire Europe into the Gay and I am going to have a blasts while doing it. Knowing that someone can so butthurt about it will make it all the better.

The same reason as any of the sillier setup rules, like having the world ruled by animals. Perhaps I'm wrong — and I'd love to be — but it's very hard to assume that someone singling out anything to do with ~The Gays~ on here isn't doing so for any reason other than boring internet culture wars; because it's completely ignorable, and isn't something that wasted any meaningful amount of dev resources.

Pretty sure it was more generic strategy fans that gave Imperator rave reviews, which obviously didn't translate well for Paradox's core grand strategy demographic.

(Honestly, one of the reasons I paid so little attention to this thread is how many people with obviously near zero experience of CK2 kept making weird conjectures and complaints, seemingly for the sake of simply continuing the notion that every game released after the 90s is pure trash. Can't help see the irony in the kind of people who complain about mainstreaming ending up being ... well, a product of that.)

In less than 24 hours,

I feel so dirty tbh.

CK is the only game where you can play as muslim secretly jewish turkish satanist and in the next generation you can be a pious pomeranian christian king that reclaims jerusalem.
Even sweedish amounts of faggotry cant made me to reject this series.
And mods will fix it probably.

My first campaign is going to be either creating west slavic catholic kingdom from mecklenburg to lvov or trying to remove turks from steppes as orthodox alanian king.

The animal kingdom rule changes nothing about CK2 except that there are 6 or so animal portraits added out of the hundreds in the game. An "All Gay" rule actually massively affects the game since it messes with the whole concept of a bloodline /inheritance. Indeed, the whole reasoning behind not adding playable theocracies, (normal) republics, and so on in CK2 was that there was no way to connect these to this concept. Yet now all this gets swept aside and I suppose you just adopt people willy-nilly and it doesn't matter anymore. And it certainly wasted a meaningful amount of dev time to make all these changes to the AI and so on to not have the game just implode.

Any information on divorce? Does the woman actually get half of your medieval gold?

I'm torn about getting this. All the modern sensibilities and meme diarrhea are a big red flag, but if you can really turn off a lot of the worst of it in the game rules...

Who pays attention to professional reviewers?

PC Gamer gave Rome: Imperator a 92 at release.

IGN an 8.0 with a nice quote of, "Makes it hard to go back to EUIV."

Rome's current playerbase is about equal with... Victoria II.

Not that I'm beating up on CK3, just that mainstream journalism is totally untrustworthy.

We are going to find out soon, I assume the game won't have a particularly difficult copy protection. :smug:
