Cyberpunk 2077 likely out by June 2019
Update March 20, 2017: In December last year, CD Projekt Red were given sizeable funding from the Polish government to research new game techniques they had dubbed 'seamless multiplayer', 'animation excellence', 'cinematic feel', and 'city creation'. The Witcher 3 developers are presumably using this tech on their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, and they've just released some new details.
In February last year, an investor call made it sound like Cyberpunk 2077 would be released by 2019, as you can see in the original story below. This new information suggests it will be mid-2019 at the latest.
CDPR are now hiring for a bunch of roles related to the new tech advances, including multiplayer specialist, animation experts, character artists, and environmental artists. There are loads of new roles, and you can see them all over on the
CDPR site, via
NeoGAF.
As NeoGAF user 'boskee' points out, the timing for the creation of these projects likely points to the deadline for the game's development. Assuming this is Cyberpunk 2077, that means the game needs to be released by June 2019 at the latest, or CDPR will have to apply for an extension. No doubt they'll be aiming to be out by that date to save on the hassle.
This does mean that Cyberpunk 2077 could be two years out still, but considering we've seen pretty much no footage of it, that sounds about right. It's going to be ambitious as hell, that much we do know. It's even going to have
vehicles. Hopefully it's worth the wait.
