Instead of getting robbed of your jewgold by WOTC support OSR publishers if you care so much

Dungeons & Dragons is bigger than WotC. I support the vision of Gygax no matter how much it's been tarnished with each updated version of the rulset. I could get behind something like OSR, but the interest I have at this stage is how 5E will affect the landcape of computer role-playing games. I do not expect OSR to get the liscense any time soon.

Then buy the special editions of AD&D. Part of the money from the sales are going to some kind of Gygax memorial.

I doubt buying into 5e is going to do anything to spread the Cult of Gygax.

I was happy to hear about the optional rules content to bring back THAC0.
Here's another, similar optional rule for you:
D&D 5th Edition Player's Handbook said:
If you want to smack yourself in the nuts with a hammer while playing, you are free to do so at any time
That's a pretty shitty rule. What are the damage scores, what about saves? Can you use other tools? Fucking DM fiat.

You need to buy the DMG for that.

Wizards of the Coast joins the recently exploding list of game companies (Onyx Path, Paizo, and quite a ton of designers here) acknowledging the existence of transgender people and non-straight sexual orientations.

"You don't need to be confined to binary notions of sex and gender. The elf god Corellon Larethian is often seen as androgynous or hermaphroditic, for example, and some elves in the multiverse are made in in Corellon's image. You could also play a female character who presents herself as a man, a man who feels trapped in a female body, or a bearded female dwarf who hates being mistaken for a male. Likewise, your character's sexual orientation is for you to decide."

That's actually a fairly comprehensive and deep understanding of the subject crammed into one paragraph, and it really caught me off guard, since D&D has always tried to avoid this subject in the past. I'm going to go ahead and give it an A rating on this.

EDIT: The "trapped in X body" thing is a little cliched and maybe there's some problems with it, but really, I think they did a great job of explaining it and showing many different reasons a dwarf with ovaries might seem to present as male or masculine.

http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?730206-5e-Transgender-LGB-FINALLY!-Thanks!

I advise against reading the replies in that thread, or your head might explode.

Rpg.net is a SJW cesspit. Is no place safe but Fair Codexia?

Anyway, good job pandering WotC. It seems like the acceptance of transexuals would depend on the setting, but 5e is all about minimizing choice so it's just gonna assume you're using Forgotten Realms. Amusingly, I've seen SJWs get butthurt because the basic set lists Faerunian ethnicities for you to choose from, and not every PoC group has a fantasy equivalent.

AbWardpbobab
That guy immediately got banned, lol. WTF.

The fact is that he actually brought up an interesting point. In a world thick with shapechangers, undead, and childlike races, all forms of sexual deviation would be more commonplace. This lack of foresight by WotC and rpg.net is more evidence that a majority of SJW's lack any real moral compass and are just trying to fit in with the hip crowd of the moment.

Also, I should have listened to Broseph. Now my head's exploded.

I'm familiar with DnD upon new releases - but there seems to be a lot of missing stuff here, like classes and races. "Half-Orc" didn't even return a result in a search.

Yeah, I think 5ed looks decent, but underwhelming. They seem to offer a cacophony of what worked in previous editions, yet it lacks a soul. It's not bad, but I just feel a sense of emptiness when I look at it. I still think my homebrew is better.

There are much more important things than races and classes for them to include. Like the table that tells you what trash your murderhobo has in his pocket:
Trinkets
When you make your character, you can roll once
on the Trinkets table to gain a trinket, a simple item
lightly touched by mystery. The DM might also use this
table. It can help stock a room in a dungeon or fill a
creature’s pockets.

A mummified goblin hand
02
A piece of crystal that faintly glows in the moonlight
03

A pipe that blows bubbles
20
A glass jar containing a weird bit of flesh floating in
pickling fluid
21
A tiny gnome-crafted
music box that plays a song
you dimly remember from your childhood

A few of those things do seem like they could have interesting stories behind them, but most range from useless bits of trash to things only a serial killer would have. Do we really need two pages of these?

Definitely. Random idea generators are excellent sources of inspiration for both GMs and players. It is often the oddest combinations which make for the best concepts - because they take your mind in directions it wouldn't go normally. Many of the entries on the table you cited are really great for this purpose, like the tiny mechanical crab or the journal with a bunch of missing pages. That's sense of wonder right there.

Of course, it also matters how you use these resources.

They're not going to give you the whole game for free. I don't think keeping half-orks out of the basic pdf is really something worth bitching about.

Specially since they were on the last beta package so you can just use that, I don't think rules changed that much

Oddly, people keep judging the Basic rules as if it's the entirety of 5th edition. We won't see the full vision until the three core books (PHB, DMG and MM) are out. There will be plenty more races, classes, feats, and crunchier optional rules to play with at that point.
