I don't understand what's supposed to be impressive about that video. Is it the fact that he walks around the spin attack? Speedrunners have been doing that for a while, it's not that difficult once you learn the positioning.
Do you mean whirlwind?
I tanked it with low stamina like a boss. Dodging it is simpler.

Something crossed my mind after playing NiOh and reading other comments. Would the Souls games be better as pure action games? Meaning, would it be better if it focused more on player skill vs learning patters and stats while keeping its level design, lore and all that shit?

Learning patterns is a big part of almost any action game though. In fact I'd say you can hardly have a good action game without it.

Eh, there are patterns and there are patterns. Learning small patterns, like the timings of individual attacks or how much damage they deal, is good. Learning the entire AI sequence of which attacks will be used in which order under which circumstances... that's retarded. Something like Spelunky is pretty ideal; you have randomized layouts of elements which you can individually memorize, but the combinations of them are constantly creating new emergent patterns you must learn to deal with on the fly. Dark Souls doesn't have enough of that imo, though it tries. Much harder to do in a pretty 3D game, obviously.

No, it's too shallow and (especially) too low-execution. The diversity and the sperging they bring in with RPGness is necessary for you to keep your interest after you learn the basics of souls movement, the camera, cancels, timings and ranges. They seem to go out of their way to remove pointless execution spirals like toggle cancelling or just frame shit (not to mention it's all targeted at 30fps on consoles, so twitchy execution will feel like shit) and instead try to focus you on low-execution skills like stamina management.

Modern TVs are laggy as well, and From haven't bothered to give us the option to compensate for input lag via the settings. They really don't care much for twitchy stuff.

Bloodborne/Demon/Dark Souls kind of boxed themselves in with the online element. They can't vary monsters/monster positions without worrying about finding another player with your specific monster placement to invade you. I think a single player Souls with random or sets of monster placement that change every time you die would be great, just keep the NPC summons for when/if you need help. Have a separate multiplayer world for the PVP crowd you can join if you want.

That would be awesome. I can't see it getting past the money men any time soon though. "No online component? But that's a buzzword! You can't NOT include the buzzwords!"

Miyazaki doesn't give a fuck? Scholar of the First Sin was an upgrade on pretty much all levels, they addressed quite a few community concerns, made the game purposefully more lethal and dangerous for all of the veteran fans, incorporated the DLC nicely into the main game, added closure to the story, and they made it free for PC users.

Feel free to criticize them for letting Bloodborne's success bleed into Dark Souls III mechanics, but not giving a fuck is one hell of a stretch.

Stop smoking grass.

made the game purposefully more lethal and dangerous for all of the veteran fans

- add 10 more enemies per site, change few enemies positions. change item placement voila ! Such design.

incorporated the DLC nicely into the main game

You still need to use those pillars to transport to those sites

added closure to the story

won't comment on that lol
and they made it free for PC users.

Actually they made a good decision to make new steam entry. This way you can leave retarded edition to to retards and play mediacore game without retardation bullshit

the only place that fucked up enemy placements in SotFS is the Iron keep with the horde of knights. the rest is infinitely superior to vanilla

If you mean superior just by increasing share number of enemies then yes.
Also only Iron Keep ? Forest of Giants starting areas with twice as many enemies ?
Only good change i saw was introduction of those sneaky motherfuckers from NG+ in that piratebay and some undead hitting treegiants.
Rest of changes are simply monster swaps + more monsters.
Iron Keep is not the outhier. Just standard. Difference here is that Iron Keep Knights are just better than you regular mob.
They increased also amount of summons so it is clear why they did it.

Vanilla + DLC is better than let's swap placements and add more enemies edition.

But i guess if they release new edition of DS2 with even more monsters per sq2 it will be your favotite.

That edition shouldn't even exist. It should be mode in options. Imo it would fit better covenant on NG+ you know which i mean.

Also FS "news"

They are working on 3 project currently + DLC to DS3:

- remake (pretty much confirmed Armored Core)
- sequel (90% chance it is Bloodborne 2, 10% chance Demon's Souls 2)
- new ip (apperently VR title)

We know also they are contracted for 3 exclusive Sony games. So VR title probably also is Sony game.

That's DS3(and Bloodborne, for that matter). A one and done game, sadly.
