If you people had to actually spend real money to gain access to the secret forum, then that means you will NEVER be invited to the secret forum's inner circle. I scoff at plebs who think they can BUY their way to the top. :obviously:

Make the Codex Great Again!
I bought a copy of Darkest Dungeon on gog.com this weekend and have played for 23 hours and 59 minutes according to Galaxy. It's a fun game, worth the 18 Euro I paid for it.

What strategies are you guys using when leveling the hamlet? Here's what I have been doing:

Busts -- Reduce the cost of quirk correction in the Sanitarium. The game throws negative quirks out like candy and you can't fix them all, but quite a few are debilitating enough to address (fuck you, Kleptomaniac).
Portraits -- Unlocking better training in the Guild.
Deeds -- Upgrading the Stagecoach to get at least 4 heroes/week, then better weapons & armor from the Blacksmith.
Crests -- Necessary for everything so just use them to support the other functions.

Stress reduction is really not that important either in the early game, since everyone is expendable and stress will fall on its own as long as you're not Afflicted. If a guy you're planning to keep and level does get heavily stressed, you can just keep them on the shelf for awhile or even bite the bullet and pay -- it should be infrequent enough that it doesn't have a major impact on your finances.

Thoughts?

All in all, fun game. A bit too grindy in places, but that's why you play it in 10x speed Cheat Engine. Cures pretty much everything wrong about it.

Do you (or somebody) mind giving a quick primer on Cheat Engine for somebody who hasn't used it before? Definitely interested in speeding the game up a bit just to cut down on the repetition.

It's effortless. You just run cheat engine, choose the process you need, then there is a simple option "Enable Speedhack" in the middle of the window's right side. Choose the number you want and that's it.

I think, i will wait for full release with new classes and town events and just edit game for myself. It's not that bad for time killing, but even easier than i remember from EA.

Ludo Lense is full of shit. The Codex has a premium secret forum. There we discuss strategies to discredit whistleblowers like you, Celerity.

I'm sorry guys, if I get banned for revealing this secret, so be it. But I can't take any more lying. As I write this post the premium forum has a 173 pages long thread titled "Celerity must be stopped at all costs!" where Ludo and others are discussing strategies to prevent people from finding out the truth about this game.

Red Hook John barely posts there anymore, but if you know his Codex account (like I do) you can see for yourself that he reads the thread every day. If you read between the lines of his postings in other forums you'll see the guy is apprehensive.

Jim Sterling OTOH posts every single day in that thread. He sounded really freaked out some time ago. Now the reason seems clear: when you contacted him he realized the gig was up. He wanted to make a video calling you crazy, but we advised him not to. So instead he pretended to be on your side in order to buy us some time.

I won't uphold this farce anymore. I simply can't take it anymore. Red Hook John's last post sounded arrogant as fuck. He pretty much told us "find a way to silence Celerity or forget about the money, bozos". That's when Angthoron went rogue and started with the tags and the watchwitz bullshit.

When that didn't stop you it finally became crystal clear to us: there is nothing we can do and nothing we can say to save DD. Your posts are nothing short of Revelation: a self evident Truth that cannot be denied and cannot be erased. Going against such a force is the very definition of a futile effort. Red Hook's fate is sealed.

I'm sorry fellow Codexers, I really am. I hope we can still be friends after this. I can live without Red Hook's money. I know some of you need their money to feed your children. Cassidy probably won't be able to send his daughter to college now that I ruined things with RH. I'm sorry man. If she grows up to be a drunken tramp, it's on me. I take full responsibility for my actions.

I'm sorry Codex. I can't live a lie anymore :|
They wont ban you , but telling about the shilling ,corruption, and secret subforum..... You will end up being stalked by a mossad agent (his cover here is a news spambot).

I may or may not have reviewed Legends of Eisenwald from a Las Vegas high-rise while getting blown by strippers of hugely varying heights.

Hint hint, Red Hook.

I ve just realized that this game reminds me of the Sunless Sea. Mediocre, monotones gameplay full of grinding but it can be forgiven because of "dark Lovecraftian design and atmosphere".

Curious fact, my friend. Did you know that foxes normally avoid human contact whenever possible and that most, if not all, attacks attributed to them were actually done by other animals? This changes when they become infected with rabies, in which case they are known to wander closer to homes and will, on rare occassions, approach and attack humans. However, the actual number of incidents where rabies was transmitted successfully from fox to human is still staggeringly low, with most infections by far being the result of people being bitten by a dog. Yet, I wonder what would happen if you were to take a multitude of rabies infected foxes and locked them into a room with a certain man who said too much. Would he succumb to exsanguination from the many bites first, or would he steadily be driven mad by the infection, door closed and left to fester in his own fluids? Makes you think, doesn't it? Makes you think about what a great game Darkest Dungeon is, reflect on the many raving reviews it has and how it should be the Codex RPG of the year for 2016. Don't forget to vote.

Shit, men, the jig's up, Eyestabber squealed.

Oh, he'll be squealing, but the only jig here is the one you'll be dancing on the upcoming Codex twitch stream for the 24-hour Darkest Dungeon marathon.
Oh god, please don't make us dance again. My feet are still hurting from the last stream we had to do, the doctor says I'll never walk properly again.

Arguing with someone in good faith means that you are genuinely trying to convince someone of something without being disingenuous. Celerity, no amount of whining, crying and affirming will change empirical data.

You mean like dismissing everything as "Drivel"? I rest my case.

Fact: The vast majority of complaints regarding the game are that it is too hard or that the stress system is annoying. Until you show the sea of threads that you claim whine about how easy the game is and Hellion spam then we have nothing left to discuss.

The negative reviews that aren't instant buried.

Fact: Steam charts shows that the game had its largest peak player spike after going gold this month and Steam Spy shows a decent median player time in comparison to similar games. Until you disprove those sites and bring in new data that shows that the game is dead we have nothing left to discuss.

Concurrent users yes. Though it's not the highest, it's slightly lower than EA release.

http://steamspy.com/app/262060

The overall users remained about the same until the last 24-48 hours. This despite the fact it was rank 2-15 on the best selling list for that entire timeframe. The only way this makes sense is if there are a lot of refunds, which is likely given the complaints of crashes and poor localization, both flaws you'd find during the review window. Given that the game also sold 40k in a week during the holiday sale despite a much lower sales rank I was expecting 700-750k from poor dupes, so there's clearly something canceling it out.

Fact: The majority of post release reviews are positive and not negative. Until you can prove that these people are bought we have nothing left to discuss.

People are spamming recommended votes and negative reviewing the negative reviews. There's very few positive reviews of the game, and the overall rating is dropping.

Fact: The prevailing opinion on the forums and steam forums is that the game is alright but it could have been more or just outright satisfaction. The prevailing opinion here is that the game is a sub-par hardcore experience but a decent time waster. Until you can prove your opinion is representative of any significant segment of the player base your use of "we" and "you will come to the same conclusions has me" are hollow so we have nothing left to discuss.

It's representive of challenge gamers. I think we've established most of the Codex went full popamole.

Since you have a tendency of just going full retard I won't waste further time on you.

And it looks like the rest of the thread is people going full retard and reviewers falling for review bait. Regardless, the war continues. Your trolling and opposition fills my heart with determination and ensures the war will rage onwards.

Celerity,

I've been in the situation you got yourself into many times. Game developers usually turn out to be guys who know more about fiddling with software than playing games. Or more interested in doing it for the money than for the art. And often shallow picks who only ever get one good, marketable idea in a lifetime (or steal/latch onto someone elses), put their name on it and contaminate it forever. Or you just cant get a good game idea of the ground because the guy who would be able to code it can't possibly be motivated to code it because he's basically a monkey with a very specific trick he's trained to perfom and a huge ego because prerforming that trick can get them a lot of bananas. You sound way too young and indealistic, which is nice as you're kinda bright, but what I have to tell you is - don't participate in game development unless you're the boss and you got the code monkey's family at gun point. Don't do betas, don't try to help game developers. It's always basicaly unsolicited volunteer work which'll get you nowhere. There's been situations where after a beta I could end up writign a decent Wiki for a game - woudn't because it would help the game sell, and after having truck with developers it's often something I don't want to happen anymore. So just don't do these things. RL politics activism is actually much easier, and can get you stuff, so if you're gonna throw your life and inteligence away on something, better that than indie game beta-testing / modding. Just find a political organization which needs ground troops and make sure you cash in on your drive.

Anyway, the game is shallow past the really cool atmosphere, and I didn't mind buying it and enjoying the atmosphere. Was quite clear to me it's pretty much a dressed up phone game. But it's the best dressed up phone game I've seen in a while, and at least the art / "story" guys knows their lovecraft. What's refreshing about it is the no-protagonist-so-no-lame-story / power fantasy. I'm a huge writing nazi, but the way this bit of fun ambiental nonsense is divorced from having a bad story really worked out for me.

Someone said something about lame graphics being a cause for independant tactical games or somesuch to fail, and if anything this one proves that with the right kind of art direction and atmosphere you can sell a 1$ phone game as a 20$ blockbuster. What I'm not clear on is why it's so bloated in disk size and why the loading times. It IS pretty much a phone game.

Also, Celerity: what exactly broke your mod?

Lujo,

I'm neither young nor idealistic. What I did do was shelve my usual cynicism for a short time and get emotional about something. That of course was a horrible mistake, not only because I was wrong about the game but also wrong about the characters of those making it. Rest assured Early Access is a big ass 180 sign now no matter what's happening or how the game seems. Now I don't have a problem with modding, other companies can and do respect that effort but beta testing is right the fuck out.

As for the graphics, it's pretty much anti indie/Roguelike. Both Indies and Roguelikes are generally praised for solid ideas and mechanics while mocked for poor presentation, this is the opposite. It looks great but there's nothing beyond that. Kind of like mini triple A really, complete with mass advertisement. As for the optimization, see lazy talentless devs. This sold well because it said it was something it wasn't then marketed the shit out of itself, put that marketing campaign on a real game and it will sell millions.

What broke my mod for Derpest was various hardcoded imbalances that I couldn't fix even by rejecting the entire patch. At this point however I seen overwhelming, undeniable evidence of their corruption, of their aggressive mismarketing, etc and I could no longer support them, I could no longer make a company like that sales. So I cut support, because that patch was their final chance.
