Toilet paper, a luxury item

Looks good, but like someone said they really, really need someone to fix up that artwork and UI.

Very cool. Kickstarter games have proven that their heart is in the right place, now everything will come down to execution. If developers of Kickstarted games can deliver a solid product within a reasonable timeframe, this funding model will be established as a viable alternative. I won't lie though, the jury is still out on whether these studios can budget their games properly and stick to a schedule.

Looks boring. Age of Decadence with guns. A few characters whack each other back and forth for minutes with both missing and extreme damage ranges. I can see why Josh and Chris refused to back this; I'm already feeling the buyer's remorse.

Please don't call your noise level "units" decibels. They do not behave like that.
Ah, the usual Mitsoda attention to detail.

It's alive! Now use this burst of publicity to hook more people with more frequent public updates instead of the previous campaign of silence...

Uhm, I watched the video muted because I'm in the office, so I possibly missed the explanation: do melee hits risk infection, or how does that part of the game work? It's not a proper zombie game if you don't have to preemptively soak your infected buddy in gasoline and make sure not much is left to rise...

The camera controls are already giving me a headache, but what can you do.

In the video he explains that special zombie attacks like grappling and biting are not enabled.

Given that it takes several shots to bring down a zombie during melee, I'm wondering how often a zombie will try to bite and what its chances to succeed are. Seems like a pretty important consideration. Do you really want to stand toe to toe with a zombie for 3-4 turns if there is a decent chance of getting bit?

I think Dead State is not in fact a combat-centric game, so any expectations of immense combat depth may be misplaced.

The decibel stuff is very true... firing a shotgun two times gave 50db and a "yellow alert", but 50db is less than a "normal conversation"...

There will be lots of bitching on this.

Looks Very, very, promising!

I do agree with the tie thing though, a zombie gets a Kung fu death grip on that tie and its chomp city. Brooks's zombie survival guide has a section dedicated to the danger of loose clothing. Still, that's a minor detail and everything looks very, very promising!

Looks interesting enough, combat seems OK at this stage. Art still isn't very good, though.

Looks pretty good, in a Fallout/X-COM kind of way. Looks like they might deliver after all.
BTW, anyone knows when is it going to be released?

Killing enemies doesn’t give skill points - gathering resources or meeting objectives does

No xp for combat --> FUCK YEAH

You can avoid as much combat as possible without weakening your character.

The sound system/zombies swarming + sandbox gameplay sounded like the coolest thing when they were describing it at a design/concept stage, it's nice seeing that transformed into actual gameplay. Really looking forward to this, hope it works out for Mitsoda.

Looks legit.
The mechanic is good.
Just need minor tweaks here and there.
The noise meter should be displayed on screen too.
And a button to show every lootable stuff will be great.

I agree about the portrait.
It's a bit ugly, and no personality.
Shadowrun Returns portraits are 3 times cooler IMO.
But overall the game looks fun. :salute:
It's a shame I will not play it.
I'm so sick, tired, and hate zombie apocalypse shit.
Why the zombies? Why not robots, aliens, ponies, molemen, neanderthals etc? :(

The noise meter is displayed on screen. It's in the upper left (DB).

just a couple of gripes:

the female zombies sound like some fat chick going crazy with ben & jerry. zombies should sound guttural and br00tal. should be "uhrghhrhhh" rather than "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm". there's too much of it as well. very repetitive.

also, it would be nice if sounds could be played positionally.

the game could use fallout-style descriptive text as well (entering towns, buildings, etc).

EDIT:
just read the update notes, huehue. good to see the sounds are temporary.

"We are working on trying out a “zombie turn” where all the zombies move at once. " This would be a welcome addition, I think.

I actually kind of agree that "another zombie game" sounds boring as fuck, but then I've never liked zombies at all as a trope. But Dead State to me is more about "freeform, post-disaster, survivalism sandbox RPG" than anything else, and I can't think of anything else like it either on the market or being developed. Plus, stronghold mechanics. I fucking love stronghold mechanics.
