I did some digging and looks like Dishonored is unmoddable. In the past people tried to crack "modding" protection on games like mirrors edge and it never quite worked. Conclusion? If Beth is done milking the game with DLC then we might get the toolset (they once said in an interview that they might release it), other than that, no mods.

I just stumbled upon this on TTLG, someone has released an Ultimate Difficulty Mod for Dishonored. I don't have the game installed on my computer so I didn't test it, but I'm curious.

Interesting. Not sure how he is doing it though? And version "0.01" is pretty worrying . Will keep an eye on it though.

lol @ the guy in that thread saying Dishonored was harder than Thief.

The "mod" is just config files, not a real mod that adjust the AI properly. As I said, a proper mod won't happen unless the toolset is released.

The only big issue with the game is how easy sneaking is. The story, setting and tone are pretty well done, despite how silly you CAN be.

You nailed it, except you missed the second big issue with the game; that it's shit and not really worth playing.

Not worth playing because the story is shit, gameplay is shit, sneaking is shit, level design is shit.

The most interesting level in the game involves sneaking upstairs and reading a note to figure out a puzzle.

Not worth playing because the story is shit,

Story is pretty thin like an action game's should be. Setting is pretty fucking awesome though.

gameplay is shit, sneaking is shit,

How? Other than being too easy, name a reason or two.

level design is shit.

Couldn't disagree more. Very smart level design made to facilitate sneaking and multiple paths. The fact it is too easy to navigate effectively is tied in with the same complaint, but that's more a problem rooted in the game's main flaw: blinking. Blink is what makes the game too easy.

The game is certainly flawed but saying it's not even worth playing once just for its settings and art direction?

That's simply narrow-minded.

The game has a unique art style that resembles Impressionism; the alternate-universe industrial-revolution-era setting is rarely seen in games; the gameplay mechanics, story and writting are at least not annoying.

It's certainly worth playing once, with the Bay version, or for $5.

Hey, maybe it's worth playing at least once. I played through it twice to see the 'good' ending. Then I raged because I realised the only significant difference between doing a lethal and non-lethal playthrough was whether you get the black ending or the white ending. But that's an entirely different tangent.

It's rare for me to play through a modern game twice, but I was hoping that a second playthrough would provide enough variation from the first that I'd be left with a favorable impression of the game, but ultimately, the second playthrough felt almost exactly the same as the first (even though I did a lot of things differently) and ended up being just as unsatisfying.

I would actually try it if it was actually difficult. In my half hour it showed me reasonably interesting levels and art style, and I can take shit story if I'm having fun between story nodes. But I'm not playing shit where on Hard I can fire potshots at enemies while they stand on top of their burning colleague and go THEM MUDCRABS, AYE?, it's like sneaking in an empty room by yourself wearing a cape and humming the Bond theme song.

The only big problem about Dishonored is that it's indeed way too easy when sneaking. If the AI could detect you based on the noise you make when you're crouched or actually looked up sometimes it would be for the better.

"I played through it twice from start to finish but it's a horrible shit game not worth playing at all r00fles!"

It's a bit hard determining whether a game is worth playing without playing a substantial amount of it, and I tend to finish games at least once, even if they're complete shit. The second playthrough was, as I said, to see how much variation there is in the gameplay between playthroughs when trying to use different paths and making different choices. My conclusion was not much and that no matter how you play the game, it's pretty unsatisfying. Hence why I say it's not worth a playthrough. Not a game I'd recommend to my friends.

Well when I am not enjoying a game I tend to stop playing it after a few hours of seeing if it gets better. Sometimes if it's a short shooter I might force my way through the whole 5-6 hours just to get it done, especially if I paid anything for it. Syndicate is a good example of that, as is Bulletstorm.

I can't imagine playing a 10+ hour game like Dishonored through twice without liking it though. That screams "I enjoyed it but these disappointments mean I must act like I hated it" to me.

Bullshit.

I tend to be somewhat OCD about finishing games, even shit ones (finished Unreal 2 against my very acutely better judgement), but if you have trouble determining if the game is worth playing after fairly short period, chances are it is.

Hey, you're welcome to believe whatever the hell you want. Doesn't really change the fact that I thought it was a disappointing game and is not really worth playing through unless you're incredibly bored.

Depends on the type of game, really. A game like Bioshock Infinite and Bulletstorm, where the rest of the game is likely to play exactly like the first few hours, maybe. A game like Dishonored where choice and consequence (supposedly) plays a large part, not so much. Same thing with ME3. I could tell the gameplay is shit within 30 minutes of starting the game up, but wanting to see the story and the choice and consequence play out, I finished it. I can also safely assure you that ME3 is shit and not worth a playthrough, even though I finished it once.

But but but if you care enough to see how that stuff played out then you didn't think it was shit.
