I'm getting kinda worried here because each new piece of information thatl Larian throws at us is making me more and more hyped. I'm afraid that my expectations for the game will get so high that the game could never reach it, however good it may be in the end.

But I cannot avoid this, everything looks so :incline: at this point!

New gameplay video from the recent Original Sin event in Russia (click here).

They won “Best RPG of the show”, according to their facebook page. It’s in Russian, but I still picked up a few things.

Obviously, this is still pre-alpha, there are some clearly placeholder chests and animations, but you can sneak, lockpick, use shovels to dig up graves. There are different arrow types, and you’ll also have to keep track of your ammo, like in Beyond Divinity.

The presenter scrolled through the list of skills. Note that this is a pre-alpha list, it is not the final list, and there are still things that will be changed, for instance, Charm and Charisma are redundant and one of them will probably go. I spotted 37 skills.

List of skills:
  • Way of the Warrior
  • Way of the Ranger
  • Unarmed
  • Single-handed
  • Two-handed
  • Black Rock
  • Ranged
  • Shield Specialist
  • Reflexes
  • Armour specialist
  • Slayer
  • Magic Resistance
  • Battle Magic
  • Defensive Magic
  • Summoning Magic
  • Sourcery
  • Telekinesis
  • Willpower
  • Fire Elementalist
  • Water Elementalist
  • Air Elementalist
  • Earth Elementalist
  • Field Medic
  • Man of Iron
  • Repair
  • Sneaking
  • Pickpocketing
  • Lockpicking
  • Treasure Hunter
  • Loremaster
  • Crafting
  • Barter
  • Charm
  • Intimidate
  • Reason
  • Charisma
  • Leadership
  • Lucky Charm

I also saw a glimpse of some of the talents. This is not all of them, there was a scrollbar, but the presenter didn’t scroll down, probably because only the top 3 were available, and the rest were greyed out.

Talents:
  • Prince Charming (improves your ability to Charm in dialogues)
  • Pussyfooter (improves your ability to remain undetected while sneaking)
  • Pet Pal (enables you to talk to animals)
  • Spook
  • Tinkerer
  • Sidewinder
  • Opportunist
  • Assassin
  • Everyman’s Friend
  • Trader’s Tongue
  • Cat Burglar
  • Marksman
  • Gladiator
  • Warlord
  • Fleetfooted
  • Rosy-cheeked
  • … and more

Considering it was Russia, I'm sure “Best RPG of the show” would be "the RPG that looks and plays the least like shovelware."

It turns out I was wrong, Josh didn't cancel his pledge for D:OS. However, he didn't care enough about it to change his payment info in time before they considered him a dropped pledge and that says all you need to know about his enthusiasm.

My prediction is that he'll be just as perplexed as I was.

Yeah, try to make up some excuses for yourself. Truth is, he backed the project because it looks good in his eyes. He doesn't share your views. You can now go and weep in the corner.

'Cards cancelling and not having time to deal with it' is something that can happen to anyone- sometimes you are busy, and sometimes you aren't rich.

It would take minutes to correct and Josh makes good money as a project director.

Same way it would take only minutes for MCA to do the codex trolls he promised us (not even going into the Arcanum LP).... and yet here we are.

Or maybe he just forgot. You're reading too much into it.
Except that Crooked Bee reminds him every now and then, and he replies:

MCA said:
No, not yet. I'll try and let you know when they're coming down the pipe, it might be a while.

But's been only like A YEAR, so maybe he didn't have the time...
I was answering to Roguey, didn't see you were posting too:P

Frankly, who (except Roguey cause he is gay for Josh) cares whether Josh backed DOS or not. maybe Swen got him :butthurt: Maybe Josh forgot, we will know either way based on his comments on DOS system. Remember he is the hipster who criticized PA in Fallout, and a shitty leather cap (remember this is not fantasy for enchanted shit) adding crit chance, where as powered armor with high tech visors with targeting systems just marginally better than light armor :retarded: Talk about verisimilitude down the drain for balance.

And for all his "equally viable" bullshit, Riot Shotgun build is iwin button. Riot Shotgun is clearly much more viable than any other firearm option in all cases except sniping.

This. But it is still mindblowing, that Roguey has to make up every kind of shit, just to explain how it is possible that Josh is on another opinion than she. I suck up to some devs as well, but Roguey is really on another level. Roguey, don't worry, if sometimes you are wrong about Josh, it is not the end of the world, he won't take an offense about it.

I'm fairly certain that if he were to take offense about anything on this site it would be that there's some obsessed dingbat 'netstalker putting words in his mouth at every possible turn.

Beyond Divinity is the only Larian title that qualifies as shovelware.

Roguey should tone down her recent hate spree against Euro shovelware a bit, considering Lesi is/was a Larian fangirl.
She kinda liked DD, thought BD was Beyond Awful, and kinda liked D2 until she replayed it and realized it was awful.

I've been burned out on the medieval fantasy genre as of late but this game is looking too good to pass up.

Only other Larian game I've played is DD, which I liked but one of its major flaws was overpowered/utterly useless skills. I'm not insistent that every skill be equal but judging by the list provided by Stabbey, they may be headed in the direction of repeating the same mistake. If they can find a way to actually make me consider "Rosy-Cheeked" then good on them but it seems more likely that they'd be better off trimming the list.

Well, he can't go around supporting anything that might be fun!

That list may very well end up trimmed. I might not be remembering this right, so don't take this as gospel fact... but I think back during the Kickstarter, or on the Larian forums, people noted that there was only the one primary attribute for magic users, instead of the two for melee and ranged attacks. People asked why not have Willpower. I believe one of the developers said that their testers did try having Willpower, but people didn't end up putting points into it.

With the Alpha and Beta coming up, it'll be easier to get a lot of feedback on what Skills people are using, and which ones they are not, so the list is very likely to be refined. We do not even know what "Rosy-cheeked" is yet

Still though, of those listed skills, I can see roles for specific builds for a lot of them, barring those whose purpose we don't know yet.
