Indeed, hiver is quite reasonable here (make off that what you will :M (no offense, hiver)).

There is always that one guy who is trying to troll people with some moronic complaints. Best not to pay too much attention to them.

Anyway, I'm interested in how they will change the rewards - might make me increase my pledge, but we will see.

Well, if that one guy is saying it, maybe more people are thinking it (and not saying it). But communication is clearly not our forte. His comment could have been / should have been predicted and we should have clarified what we were doing/showing.

It was hardly the only complaint I saw in the comments to that update, only the most absurd. Generally I get the impression that when it comes to Obsidian & inXile, people feel like they have to worship the ground the developers walk on, and any flaws or faults are instantly explained away as "I KNOW YOU'LL MAKE A PERFECT GAME, I AM UNWORTHY, I AM UNWORTHY!", whereas with a more unknown team like Larian, there's a lot more criticism. Which is fine, but a little unfortunate since Larian seems to be saying all the right things.

Mostly I'm just bummed that they have possibly the best-looking and definitely most advanced product on Kickstarter, and aren't really doing raring business. I'd love to see this game get a lot more scope for investment, because it's all going to be paid back to the community after release with the toolset (even Neverwinter Nights 2 which was kind of ass in the community regard and never took off very well had some great modules).

I'm not so sure. I think your communication is great, personally. PR? Not so much, and they're definitely not the same thing. Not being great at PR is kind of a good character trait among friends, but obviously isn't going to get you the most money. And just like in the real world, lots of people don't know what to do with real honesty after years of not seeing it practiced. Self-criticism is often misinterpreted as a lack of confidence.

It's clear that Kickstarters will be faster early on, but honestly, the more than 50% of the goal has been reached after just a few days, so why are you all sounding as if they are not going to make it?

Anyway, I guess a bit more of (good) PR never hurts...

Btw. Jaesun, the perfect number is 73 ;)

I actually respect Larian much more than inXile (at least at the moment). Swen Vincke's company managed to release three decent RPGs and in the process became financially independent from publishers (and started to make an old school RPG). While inXile, since founding in 2002 released The Bard's Tale, Hunted: The Demons Forge and Choplifter HD and then almost sunk, finally saved by the Kickstarter.

Granted, Brian Fargo has a lot of cred for his Interplay years and the fact he saved Wasteland and Torment's IPs, but his current company is yet to release an RPG, while Larian keeps fighting the good fight and deserves more love.

I would however like to point out that there is also a group of people who are on one hand aware of your shortcomings when it comes to presentation, but nevertheless appreciate the honesty and the vision behind the project enough to actually raise their pledges (I'm one of them). I also found out that kicking up the contribution by a dollar or so whenever I read a comment particularly disheartening in its stupidity is vastly preferable to (and more emotionally fulfilling than) trying to pointlessly argue with its author, as the dollar very likely ends up having much more actual impact on the project in question. (The sad thing is you need to be very selective with your reading, or else you'll run out of money before you know it.)

I'm not going to go in a never-ending maelstrom with them. But it would feel like "not doing my job" if I just ignored it :)

Still, very stylish of you to bring life to the expression "if I got a dollar for every time..."

Donated at the $35 soundtrack tier. Not sure why, I own Divinity and Divinity II but I haven't completed either of them. I guess it is simply out of a desire to keep an RPG developer going.

I think you want to subconsciously atone for your Best RPG votes.

That thing about adding a sheep faction, and making the sheep acuse you of mass murder when you kill one of them is one of the reasons to why I love Larian games so much. I really want that the animal empathy skill be as fun to use as it was to read minds on DKS.

Some really good (and even legitimately new) info in that update, like confirmed party dialogue via mods can include henchmen instead of just heroes, and game balanced around full party combat.

Larian are such bros. I'm about to reinstall Divine Divinity right now and give it another play. I truly believe these guys are going to put out an awesome game, and self financing/crowdfunding is the perfect opportunity.

I'm pretty skeptical of the 2 player thing and I don't see the mass appeal for a 40 hour multiplaer CRPG, but despite that, I just can't wait to play this.

And :salute:to Swen and any other Larian bros that browse this forum.

Good FAQ, some good stuff regarding the "wait co-op???!!" line of thought and also about the game in general.

I'm definitely st(r)oked.

Mmmm, email harvesters have registered my email on kickstarter... but i didn't receive any mails (spoofing or otherwise)?!

Edit: crisis averted, those dumbfucks don't work with ghostery, because they really really want to spy on you.

rpg watch ahead of codex in directing pledgers to the KS...
well that's what you get when you break a news embargo, I guess. dirty tricks.
It doesn't even make sense to give them previews. They only ever have like 50 people on their forums at once, meanwhile the Codex has usually 500. I guess that's why they released the interview early.

Do monsters level up or become stronger the bigger your party is?
No. Monsters do not scale to your level. If you are level 1 and you see a level 10 monster: run.

Just increased my pledge. Larian, you guys are awesome, never give in to the decline!

See... thats the problem you developers have.

Instead of one stupid guy who doesnt even understand what he is talking about, and very probably does it for entirely stupid reasons... you immediately turn that into an imaginary army of dissatisfied "fans".
He is not your fan and he is complaining because he is an ignorant, shallow attention whore who prefers ass deffect, skyrim, facepalm 3 or whatever other nonsense.
And by approaching it like this you give someone unworthy and irrelevant too much importance leverage. For nothing.

Its really a human fault. We all tend to pay much more attention to bad things then good ones.
And that has its own negative consequences.

Just my personal opinion.
If it was me... i would tell him to stuff those 25 bucks in his ass and jump on them.

Not that you should, of course. just sayin..

Dragon Commander Digital Edition will be DRM-free, and will be localized in English, French, German, Polish and Russian.

Why no Dutch? :(

Since AFAIK you're basically the only "RPG company" based in Flanders/The Netherlands I really have my hope vested in you to finally play a RPG in the Dutch language (unless I missed something). OK of course I don't expect you to produce it natively in Dutch but what would an English->Dutch translation cost. 10-20K?

As a weary traveller I'd really like to stay at a herberg ordering a waterkonijn and washing it down with a nice trappist. (OK maybe it's something to consider for future games, who knows you can even get government subsidies for translations).

Join The Codex, gets hiver's PR tips (TM) free! ;)

Of course not.
If it was an actual reasonable complaint, made with come actual arguments or criticism that makes at least some sense - then yes, you go there, try to explain, clarify etc.

But this? Or cases like it? Fuck em all.
