Fights are mostly just noisy clusterfucks at best, with the only real threat being off-screen attacks that can't be noticed because of shit audio, and movement still feels too limited to actually allow you to react to anything, so I'd always just end up running in circles. People made it seem like you'd be doing backflips over demons' heads or something, but it's actually a lot more banal than that.

Compared to what? How many other FPS can you name that have similarly fast combat and require you to use space in such a way to avoid getting killed? Most shooters nowadays just have you firing from cover half the time.

So you can climb onto some platforms in this game. But aside from that, jumping is mostly useless when it comes to actual direct combat, and the arenas aren't any more vertical than the originals' levels. Sure, there was no vertical aiming, but as far as movement goes, the new Doom doesn't actually do much of interest, and it still has the slow walking speed and confined rooms typical of console shooters. It's not as bad as it may be in other games, but that's still what it is. The combat is just about running around and pressing Awesome Buttons. That's not to say it's necessarily easy, but it's stupid and unfun. They seemed to care more about giving the player the illusion of doing cool things instead of making a game that's actually good. It's all just fake-edgy pandering.

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.

Gameplay of the Master Levels (remixed NG+ versions of existing levels). Crucible used at 21:30, unfortunately like expected it's just another insta-kill weapon like the Chainsaw and BFG; insta-kills even Super Heavies at the cost of one charge; has like three charges you can only refill by picking up world items; acts like a Glory Kill that doesn't lock you in place as much. Highly motivated Maurauder gameplay at 25:59.

Lmao, the Rich Get Ritcher rune. The most broken shit i found so far. What a bad idea.

I thought the rune challenges were retarded in general. I don't like the way they take you out of the game so I ended up just skipping them.

I disliked "do X action Y amount of times to get the final weapon mod upgrade" even more. I hope that shit is no longer in Eternal. A lot of rune challenges I simply missed because I never felt motivated to fully explore the levels. So I'd only do those if I happened to come across them but would never bother searching for them. Never got that Rich Get Richer rune.

The rune challenges are gone but the weapon masteries are still in, I believe.

I've done everything because autism lmao. One level left i believe, right after killing the computer.

I'm surprised at the amount of bugs i found so far. The one where playing an arcade map changes the difficulty in the campaign to that of said map (lmao). Then there's the one i encountered in the VEGA level, where after clearing the room the arena event wouldn't finish because of monsters getting stuck inside the walls, and i had to do it twice over before i got past it. And now i noticed that i get didn't the achievement from collecting all the runes, which who cares but it's still a bug. The game also crashes randomly when trying to reload, just to add insult to injury.

Aside for that, it's a really smooth game no jank anywhere too bad for the shit sound design. All the shit i used to complain about are actually not as annoying as not being able to tell what from what because the game has to dick around with the volume. I got one shotted by that stomping attack hell knights make more than a few times and i never heard a god damn thing. Whoever came up with this shit needs to get fleyed alive. It's the sound equivalent of motion blur and depth of field in visuals. Breaking what didn't need to be fixed.

I took a peak at the multiplayer and the snapmap thing. Holy mother of fucking shit console decline. Seeing how the arenas basically play like death match i figured maybe the actual death match might be decent in this game, instead they fucked it up in all the typical decline ways.

What a bunch of retards.

Finished it. As expected, the last boss was a push over. I don't think they should have bothered with boss fights unless they planned to go Dark Souls levels of rape, but they didn't.

Final verdict: good for what it was, but i'm not sold to the formula and still prefer real level design over what feels like death match except with monsters instead of other players (i guess there's some kind of irony there that they designed the single player to be like traditional death match but they ruined their actual death match with call of duty shit like weapon load out). Last levels were dragging too ultimately it's basically the same shit over and over.

The good: visuals, especially the tech parts occasionally it really did feel like Doom but with realistic graphics. Hell by comparison felt too "fantasy". Gunplay was also good, enemy AI and movement were well done, animations were great, game was actually challenging, weapons were actually fun to use.

The bad: sound (including the music, not just because djent does nothing for me but because the music never played fully due to the dynamic shit they had going so all you heard were snippets of sounds and never a whole track, so it's even hard to say WTF the music was in the game), no level design (but it did have secrets at least so a bit of exploration was there), arenas got tiring and repetitive after a while, try hard attitude of Doom "Slayer" reeked of dude bro retardation, lot's of shit that was there only because of consoles (check point save system that didn't allow you to back track, neutered multiplayer, that travesty that was the editor, and i would also argue the slow movement of the Doom guy itself), and lastly, bugs.

I like the scene where he does the Vega backup because it's one of the few moments in the game that shows him taking a step back and making a decision other than to punch/destroy things.

The intro to this video shows just how much the audio fuckery hurts this game:

The music works a lot better when the tracks are played continuously instead of getting broken up constantly by changing weapons or what not. The fact the track shuts up when no monsters are on screen is fine but why not just play the damn thing in it's entirety during the fights?

It doesn't deserve this much praise, but i guess in the current state of decline, good for what it is = timeless masterpiece.

It's the same shit with movies nowadays - something merely competent enough to be watchable has people cumming all over it. Best we can hope from Doom Eternal is more of the same with small improvement here and there. I like the addition of dodge move, although I would prefer to just have running speed of original games. Still better than to be stuck dodging projectiles with that slow speed.

Really diverse team!

Games are now like Hollywood. It was like watching something out of MTV.

Doom 2016 is the Human Revolution of the Doom franchise. Really good reimagining, with lots of cool new features but also has lots of little things that irk the hell out of me.

Rest in peace to one of the composers in that video. He passed away in 2019.
