A Beautifully Desolate Campaign
Not that surprising, newbee.young is quite decent and has been for a while now. They just seem to choke incredibly hard in groupstages but they almost always pull through the open qualifier for any event, and ocassionally beat up the big chinese teams. Same goes for most chinese t3 teams actually, their amateur scene is a lot stronger than ours. Newbee.Y really has been on a roll lately though, they eliminated vici.r earlier this week from starseries, beat down Newbees mainsquad and drew against all the big teams in DPL the last 2 weeks (wings, ehome, VG). If the somehow manage to eliminate LGD from starseries in 2 days, they might actually be a contender for the wildcard.
Only region that can compare in the T3 team department is CIS, which also is good for a upset here and there. They'll never make it to a major /TI but I expect them and vici to pull through the chinese open quals, which then puts a whole bunch of great t1-t3 teams against each other. Old eleven is back for ehome though so I imagine they're gonna crush it.

Liking that there's only 6 direct invites, Na'vi didnt really deserve an invite (losing to OG in the way they did was sad to watch, fuck ESLs single elim brackets) but it was the more sensible choice compared to DC/Alliance/fnatic.

JIMMY HO AKA DEMON AKA THE MERCENARY

AFTER YEARS OF PLAYING AS A STANDIN, HE GOES TO HIS ANCESTRAL HOMELAND AND LEADS A TEAM OF FOUR NOBODIES THROUGH THE OPEN QUALIFIERS, REGIONAL QUALIFIERS AND INTO THE MAIN EVENT TO ATTEND HIS 4TH TI.

https://www.twitch.tv/eggnetwork/v/74605734?t=02m58s

in other news, IG, VG, EHOME and Wings are neck to neck in the round robins, demolishing every other team.

EG is very likely to qualify without having to go through the playoffs. DC has the same score, but they haven't faced eachother yet. whoever wins the EG vs DC game will probably qualify.

In europe, Secret is struggling against the CIS teams, and Escape Gaming (qojqva stack with synderen, yapzor, era and khezu) hold a clear lead over everyone else. Alliance, VP and Empire on the verge of being knocked out.

The CIS team F.R.I.E.N.D.S have knocked EG out of starladder.

Why are CIS teams always so dominant in starladder and then shit for the rest of the year?

Been watching Starseries Season 2 and secret is playing really well. Too bad they are outplayed by navi on the grand final.

Secret just lost 6 games in a row in group stages, just got 2-0'd by DC. Karma is real.

NaVi is also completely crushed on group stage, mostly due to questionable draft. Oh well.
EG performing far better than NaVI surprised me, but Group A is what I expected it to be.

What surprise me the most is EHOME performing really well on Group B. I mean, the team didn't win anything big after Shangai Major.

What's the current meta? I may even watch some of this trainwreck

Don;t really know about the actual meta, but Elder Titan, Shadow Demon, Oracle, and Batrider gotta be the most picked hero lately. No matter what the other heroes are you ought to see at least one, even two, of them in any given game.

there is no meta. anything goes, really.here's a list from early july. quite a bit has changed though. BH is not as popular, elder titan and huskar got bumped up, superhard carries like medusa and morph have been picked more since manila. this patch rewards midgame aggression. offlaners have diversified because iron talon makes most heroes viable with no farm. dedicated junglers are currently unviable.

If they're picked it means someone else is banned. Who's broken now?

Well pink has a neat table there.
Personally lately I saw people banning hero that scales better to the endgame while still great on midgame. Lifestealer, Invoker, Alchemist, JG, BH (because he makes team stinking rich), and some utilities character like Dark Seer and Beastmaster.

AFAIK (I am a 2,7k mmr scrub) the only hero that is really2 broken is Invoker, if only because the best way to counter him might be ganking him a lot in early game, which in itself might be a problem if enemy team has another snowball hero like Alchemist, not to mention that Invoker himself has a lot of farming and survival options.

Some things never change I guess.

It's just so festive; as if both teams were about to agree to a friendly Draw, stand up and go for a group hug

TI soundtracks should be all about merciless evisceration of the other team. It should be all grit and suspense

I think I'll be using the Abstraction Music Pack this year

MVP just won 1st game against Alliance. The Rosh contest on minutes 20 was really really good and where MVP turn the game around.

That first game vs OG almost gave me a heartattack, fucking hate PA, p4p worst hero design in any game ever.

I also had OG winning the whole thing in predictions :negative:

The second is so messed up MVP's side though. Like so many mistake with void and mirana's play. And Naga's Song was really2 game making for OG.

And OG is utterly fucking crushed by MVP. Damn that 3rd game was like watching a 2k pub games. I don't even think I have been stomped that bad in my time playing Dota.
On paper OG draft was so good, but MVP's Axe totally fucking crushed any play by OG. The highlight ought to be Invoker save, minute 9 on mid lane. That was cool.

OG got absolutely bodied. At Manila, OG drafted double defensive supports to disrupt MVP, but MVP straight up banned IO this time in response.

So the only EU team left in the upper bracket after day 1 is Alliance, and that's after having 6 teams. Crazy results so far.
