While the art design of the menus and journal and the like is top notch, many of the enviroments look a little bland and uninspired. They could have done a lot more than they have. The game its looks constantly remind me of the graphics in NWN2. Then once in awhile you enter a locale that does look absolutely fitting and good and it puzzles me where they went wrong.

I've only played through the origin story so far, but from my experience I'll second this. The overall experience is very slick and polished, but the environments themselves are fairly bland. It's not a game-breaker by any means, it's just a shame that a bit more love didn't go in that particular direction.

I'm purchasing the new shit when it's out, but only because i have nothing else to do in between waiting for the world wide release of Stalker: Call of Pripyat.
You could also do a much better thing: not support shit devs.

"Ironic" guy, i.e. he only posts on Codex "ironically", because it's full of rabid biased assholes and he's sooo not any of those.

Also claims not to be a weeaboo but uses animu emote in every second post.

I love it when you talk dirty to me, baby!

But I'm not here "ironically," and I'm too stupid to know what a weeaboo/animu emote is.

I'm here because some of you actually have half a brain. That includes you, you arrogant asshole. Yeah, you. Much can be said about "the opposite bias," but at least it's got a brain (excluding obvious cases like Skyway). Fanboism don't.

Well, I played it for a few hours now, and it seems like a decent game. I am playing a noble human male fighter. The origin story was decent.

SPOILER: However, I did not like the fact that the mother abandons her children to be with her dying husband. Of course, I guess having mom hang around might undermine the adventure, but that was just stupid. I thought the way the character was taken into the order was acceptable; he had nowhere else to go.

The biggest problem with this game is the freaking controls. Many things, such as movement, attacking characters, selecting character portraits, selecting dialogue lines, navigating menus, etc. can be accomplished with one click. Instead of using the primary mouse button for all of this, Bioware decided to arbitrarily split the responsibilities between the primary and secondary mouse buttons. So I select characters, navigate menus, etc. with the primary mouse button, and I move and attack with the secondary mouse button. Of course the two are used interchangeably so much that I often click the wrong one. The entire thing is stupid and frustrating. What the fuck were they thinking! I have not had to fight the camera very much, so that is nice. Of course, the game never seems to preserve the camera angle between saves, so that can be infuriating. Furthermore, the characters do not always do what I tell them to, and that can really piss me off!

The combat is better than in NWN but not as good as the IE games. I actually thought the intro fights were a bit harder than those in Baldur's Gate.

All the bitching in this thread just goes to prove what I suspected, and the reason I left this fucking place. Most of the actually intelligent people in this forum have left, all that's remaining are the posing retards that get a thrill out of being all nasty and counterculture and shit but actually don't have the critical thinking and analytical skills to walk the walk.

A true testament to DU's action a few months ago. Vindt ge het niet Trash?

Kool Kodex Kids now BAWW about real Codexers raising valid complaints because it's rad to be conformist and nonchalant about shit game design.

It's his way of telling us that AoD, when it comes out (LOL!!!!!!111), will have regenerating mana, health, ammo and dicks.

Reading over my posts it sounds like I'm not enjoying the game. I'm actually liking the combat quite a bit, enough that I didn't mind at all replaying the mage origin story to see the different conclusions and enough that I will probably end up replaying that segment again a third time to get that staff, make sure to piss the enchanter off something fierce and also spend my talent points on some offensive spells worth a damn (fyi, MIND BLAST is not as über as it was in the flash game, it doesn't seem to deal damage)...

Wow. Killzig likes it even though it is RTWP and a Bioware game. I'm stunned. Also throughly enjoyed reading about VD's impressions. Be warned though, the visuals get a lot worse when you hit the first mayor outdoor area (wilds).

And it's as generic a setting as LOTR inspired fantasy can get, usually that sounds the death knell for my enjoyment. I don't think I have the energy to be that critical of anything anymore though, I have enjoyed some spectacularly shitty games in recent years (like Rise of the Argonauts) so take all my impressions for what they are, the opinions of a beaten man.

Ooooh, so that's why people like it.
After being beaten with classics like ME, FO3, Oblivion and other g(a)ems peoples' tastes simply began to rot.

What a relief, for a second there I was afraid I was wrong about DA but obviously it's impossible for me to be wrong.

Summarised and probably misleadingly quoted first impressions ftw. Theres enough general positivity to persuade me to give it a go I think.

. The story-telling and all that is old-school Bioware, but I've never seen one of their projects play more like an MMO when it comes to combat.
