Aveline, the tomboy chick, was actually one of the few somewhat decent characters in DA2 -- no dark tragic background,
How about being forced to kill her own husband because he had been tainted by the Darkspawn? Sounds pretty tragic to me.

Somehow you can get the feeling that all the main npcs the writers are writing are basically self-insert of theirs.
Basically, they are writing what they would do if they got awesome abilities in a fantasy world where their parents don't live in.

Which is the worst writing method in making any good characters or writing any good story.
Hilariously, their fan fiction style of writing is even worse than some of the stories I remember reading in fanfiction.net

Isn't that a Mary Sue? But yeah, that's the feeling. Especially when you see the RL pics of the writers, and they all are identifiable as trainwrecks and 40yo basement dwellers.

With Aveline it was more like shit happens rather than someone actively trying to make your life misareble or actively walking towards tragic,
It could happened anyone during the blight, but Aveline was just one unlucky chick to get short end of straw.

What is admirable is that she mourned and moved on rather than make it central point of her life. She actually tried to make grimdark kirkwall better place without falling to angst or extreme hatred.
Other tragic characters? Fenris, Anders and to some point Merril don't really move past on their own until the end and not even then.

Aveline was great. i still remember her gracefully rejecting my sexual advances:rage: my poor Hawke was left with that traitorous slut Isabela. no wonder everything in Kirkwall have gone to shit after that

You express dangerous levels of emotional engagement in regards of Dragon Age 2. You might want to get that checked in case it's contagious.

The problem is every fucking character has to be witty. You can't have a good story if every character spouts off witty banter all the time. Granted you can't have every party member at each others throats like a free for all cock fight.

Drunk, no shit faced lp of dai by a brodexer. Someone must provide us with commentary so we may seethe in monolithic snark and contempt. Yes who shall take the challenge come October?

No one.

It is the Joss Whedonization of dialog, and it pisses me the fuck off. It is the hallmark of lazy, stupid writers. They are just following the popular convention, because they have no creativity and no fucking brains.

As Elfberserker said, she gets over it pretty quickly and it isn't made a focus point for her character. Plus, I was talking more along the lines of Fenris' "I WAS A SLAVE AND MY LIFE HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PAIN AND SUFFERING, WOE IS ME!" or Isabela's "My mommy sold me for a goat and some coins!" crap.

When I said Avelline wasn't sexualized I didn't say she was a bad character, nitwits.

Characters are the one thing Bioware continue to do mostly right, while everything else falls down around them.

It kind a started to just drift towards DA 2 ladies discussion after your comment, my good man.
It seems common option here that Aveline is best one of those bunch....By actually being normal adjusted human being:lol:.

Lets see how bioware characters fare in DAI and future installments, but I have to agree that they are usually at laest decent at that department.

The Dragon Age series is getting its first exclusively gay male character, which will also be the first fully gay male party member for BioWare as a whole, series writer David Gaider revealed in a post on the official Dragon Age Inquisition website.

As confirmed on the game's Facebook page, Dorian — who is described as a powerful elemental mage - will be a love interest for male Inquisitors.

"Dorian is gay — he is, in fact, the first fully gay character I've had the opportunity to write," wrote Gaider."I suppose this aspect of Dorian will make him controversial in some corners, but I was glad to include it. It made writing Dorian a very personal experience for me," he added, referring to his own sexuality, "and I'm hopeful that will make him seem like a fully realised character to fans in the end."
For fuck's sake, gaider.

Bravo! Whole 14 years after Atlus but who cares since Persona started with third one. Bioware needs to get any word of mouth.

I love how oblivious they are to the "Gay guys is super concerned with his appearance!!!" character trait as highly offensive. It is like they think in cliches. Unfucking believable. That shit is probably more offensive than a complete lack of gay characters. They might as well make Vivienne a fucking mammy character and have her chase dudes around with a fucking frying pan. Gaider is such a fucking idiot. If he was any sort of decent writer he would know the difference between writing a gay character and a straight character should be fucking infinitesimal, and only relevant in the tiniest areas of the narrative. But because they are a bunch of sex-crazed neckbearded losers, they think gay men talk about sex all the time. So dumb. So fucking dumb.

Well Gaider is obviously big on appearance so he might not understand it's a generalization.

You normal Codexian wouldn't be so restrained and would also complain about dumping down RPGS in generally.
I also don't see mentioning of legion of ugly women in there.

So my bet it isn't from anyone from Codex

Players Will Fuck Sheep, Horses in New Dragon Age Title

Edmonton, Canada --- This week, BioWare announced the addition of fully romance-able farm animals to Dragon Age 4: The Reckoning Inquisition Vengeance: Origins: The Fuckening.

Dragon Age, a fantasy role playing game franchise launched by BioWare in 2009, has grown over the years from a small, fledgling project to a massive series that places a premium on choice, tactical combat, and letting players fuck anyone they want.

David Gaider, Lead Writer and Game Designer on Dragon Age 4, notes that this game will be bigger and better than ever. This includes giving players the option to seduce -- and eventually fuck the brains out of -- a farm animal. It has so far been confirmed that sheep, goats, horses, and sea turtles are romance-able/fuckable, but Gaider has cautioned us that this list is not exhaustive, and will likely change.

"Obviously, with six months left in development before we hit beta, we have the bandwidth to iterate on a few more fuckable creatures," Gaider said, as he hit himself in the face with a bag of red-hot pennies. "We don't want anyone to feel left out. We're working on it."

Dragon Age has occasionally come under fire by Social Justice Warriors and other internet crybabies for failing to adequately represent every single possible iteration of a human being on planet Earth, and it appears that the producers at BioWare are finally taking these complaints to heart. The dozens and dozens of posters on the forums clamoring for more realistic sex encounters -- for example, the ability to be butt-fucked to death by a Qunari, the game's stock ogre/troll rip off who sports two horribly retconned horns and would likely tear a human apart with his massive animal dick -- have apparently had a real, profound effect on the direction of Dragon Age 4.

"Diversity is a big deal here at BioWare," said David Gaider, as he whipped out his jonhson and started rubbing one out to a recent Tumblr post. "Being able to fuck sheep is really just the continuation of our commitment to making everything about sex, because who wants to play actual games anymore?"

When asked if the farm animals would be romanceable by any gender, Gaider responded "Well that's something we've always been passionate about. Gaming is really a hobby for a lot of people, and it crosses gender boundaries, so we really want to give people the chance to fuck a farm animal no matter their orientation."

When asked if BioWare was concerned about potential fan backlash, Gaider is unmoved. "I don't really pay much attention to the haters," Gaider said, as he reached into his pants, grabbed a handful of shit, and smeared it all over his face and head. "We know who our audience is, and we know what they want. There are plenty of games out there where you can't fuck a sheep or a horse, so people can go play one of those."

Dragon Age 4 is set to be released in Q4 of 2015.

offensive? are you serious?

people who are offended because a gay character is portrayed in a certain way - a way which is not even supposed to be an insult - must be seriously brain damaged.
this political bullshit is ludicrous ffs.

I personally don't give a shit if anyone is offended. That's not the point. The point is, in their haste to be super politically correct they have actually created a character who is probably more offensive to their target audience than had they included no gay dudes at all. They are idiot children who cannot reason. "Oh man, let's make a gay dude . . . but let's make him super concerned with his physical appearance!!! Nobody has EVER done this before, man we are going to fucking win Game of the Year!!!!"
