Dragon Age Origins characters were not the best in the history of RPGs, occasionally they were actually awfully written and pointless to keep in a party, but... at least they were characters? At least you had the option to kill all of them in various ways, or tell them to fuck off if you didn't like them?

I don't know what the fuck you call that parade of circus freaks, but they are not characters in a roleplaying game. They are porn models for basement-dwelling consumers of kinky geeky fetishes, mostly horn-lovers.

The LoL thread had 4½ years and a shitload of patch updates, tornament player drama and "Lel, silver scrub" to reach that size. This has only been around for 2.

And it still doesn't answer the question of how the Codex can muster up energy to write 300 pages about this turd pre-release. You'd think all hopw had been abandoned after DA2.
implying its not going to be 2009 all over again. 80% of Codex is going to play DAI and than bitch how shitty this game is after their 7th playthrough

maybe if PoE was not such a letdown and was still set to be released in 2014...but now? no one but Sensuki posts about PoE and before beta we had 1000+pages thread

Imoen was similar to Leliana?

the only similarities are they both have vagina, can lockpick and are rather cheerful

Leliana was Imoen as much as Morrigan was Viconia. I thought it was a well known fact that Bioware likes to recycle their stuff. In fact, pointing this out can be a source of real butthurt among biodrones (even more than pointing out other glaring flaws in their games).
The religious zeal was a nice twist to her character, though; it was a bit surprising when she suddenly went from cheerful to a religious nutjob trying to kill you. (I actually grew to like the troll in the end, and even cattleprodded the elections to put him on the throne. And then all the game epilogues bugged out and none of the evil endings got mentioned except for the werewolves.)

I think they must mean superficially similar, because I can't see the connection either. Leliana is under the surface a stone cold killer and Imoen is just some happy something.

Leliana is more about "MAKER'S LOVE" than cheerful tho. But yeah, while Bio certainly have their cliches , not all of their NPC are identical. Alistair, for example, while sometimes whiny, didn't have a dead wife, or constantly accused you of betrayal, or flipped and killed all Templars or Grey Wardens, so his main similarity to other Bio female LI is whining. On the other hand, if Bioware doesn't copy themselves, they rip-off from someone else's work. I remember reading Gaider's post where he was telling someone that Alistair is basically Xander + Riley from Buffy.

Riley had no personality so BioWare can have him - but Xander? Xander wasn't really much about the whining. He had a dark side that could come out if someone pissed him off, but he was mostly about the self-deprecating jokes.

Because it's the Codex. This thread's nothing - the Worst Thread Ever has almost twice as many pages, and the vast majority of those are from the last two months.

That said, there were some things for DA2 that I felt were very powerful.

Opinion instantly invalidated, but okay...

The characters I felt did a better job of having their own stories or agendas. So we held on to a lot of that.

Uh, what? Maybe in a very superfiicial way - Elf chick wanted a mirror, rogue chick wanted... well something, Varrick wanted revenge, Aveline wanted... well something. Emo elf guy wanted... revenge. Justice face wanted... uhh peace? No wait, he wanted revenge? Uh, he wanted terrorism? Something, surely he wanted...

It's no better than Alistair, "I don't want to be the king...okay." Or, "Okay Mother I'll go on a grand quest or something." The character motiviations are weak or nonsensical in both games, just thin enough to justify their existence in the party and nothing more.

The other big thing that we kept from DA2 is that combat in general feels responsive.

This is what I call classical BioWarian revisionist gobbledegook. They really don't critically examine their own games and look for improvement. They listen to the talking heads at the top of the company and make changes that suit their needs.

Combat in Dragon Age: Inquisition has been touted by BioWare as "more challenging" than that of the previous games. When pressed for specific examples, Laidlaw explained, "there are two big changes in terms of enemy opposition; there was much stuff with balance and they're tougher, and we don't have waves of dudes that explode in one hit. Enemy factions like the Red Templars, the Venatori, these enemies typically will work together quite effectively. The guardsmen with their large shields, generally if they're not in immediate combat they will try to place themselves so that your shots at the mages behind them will be deflected. Enemy assassins or other stealthy characters will actively hunt out your mages and rogues, your back rank characters."

The biggest problem with DA2 is there were easily less than 5 enemy abilities in the entire game - besides move and auto attack anyway. You can count enemy spells on one hand and no melee or bow-wielding enemy that's not an ogre can actually do anything notable. DAO wasn't much better, though at least spiders had poison and knockdown. Notably, spiders that were copypasted from DAO into DA2 even lost these abilities for whatever reason.

Fighting the dragons will also be different to that of previous Dragon Age games, with players able to target the the legs and head of dragons individually. The properties of each dragon's breath will also come into play, interacting with environments.

While that's nice, it probably won't matter - the game is too fast paced for targeting to matter. Players will just keep whacking whatever's easiest. I'll be shocked if these fights play any different from before.

WHY ARE THE SUBTITLES IN ALL CAPITALS? DO THEY THINK THE PEOPLE READING THEM CAN'T HEAR AND NEED TO BE SHOUTED AT?

After watching the videos, im appealed that they took the dialogue wheel one step forward, a single key word choice leads to countless lines of dialogue that you didnt have a single input on.

I'm expecting that the game will have an instance where i choose "hi" and the characters proceed to burn down a village and have sex on top of a pile of sheep corpses.
