Stop being part of the problem.I'm 10 hours in, and overall, it’s not bad. The combat is more fun than I expected, and the environments are varied and looks good to look at. The weakest point is the writing, especially the cringe-worthy flirting options. The dialogue doesn’t feel like grown men and women talking, it’s more like teenagers in a generic anime.
Also I’ve realized that most reviewers don’t know how to play for shit. The idea that enemies are sponges isn’t accurate. The tutorial clearly shows you should use the Primer + Detonation combo, then fill up the stagger meter to deal high damage and charge your ultimate, which does ridiculous damage, I haven't met spongey bosses and I even took down level 25 boss while I was lv10.

I just replayed BG series and I must say that BG2 (and ToB) is even worse than I remember, while BG was as I remembered. BG has its weaknesses, but overall is a silly adventure game where you travel around and experience things with some very minor C&C. However, BG2 goes full dramatic with extensive tl;dr sob stories and drama I don't give a shit about because it's just too poorly written. Huge difference. ToB was crap because it's a hack'n slash (like OWD) pretending to be BG, so I assume it was just a quick cash-grab, but while I see myself replaying BG in 10 years to re-explore the world, I think I will never replay BG2 again. It seemed fine when I was a teenager but nowadays it's just bad.Too much focus on story stuff and the romance shit added in BG2 which has stuck ever since...Bioware games are definitely over-written. Ten lines of boring dialogue to deliver what could be said in one. I am constantly wishing I had a "didn't ask" button. In ME2 the non-combat sections drag on for so long because of this, that by the time I get back to the combat missions I forget the controls.
"Well you can skip the dialogue if it bores you so much!!"
Two reasons why I can't:
1. The same button that skips dialogue will also select the default response that I probably don't want to select after the last line of dialogue is skipped.
2. There is valuable information in these dialogues, it's just spread too thin amidst endless yapping.
Brevity is the soul of wit, and as we all know, Bioware was competent but witless. Until it stopped being competent.
It's a fantasy world though, that would be the same as resetera posters enjoying non binary Barves in... oh wait...Funny, you should rather enjoy this experience, given that you post on Codex. The worst part was, all these NPCs you meet are really smarmy dickheads
Unlike original BG, BG2 lacks "evil" or "neutral" characters, everyone is "good" so if you play as a pragmatic (aka "evil") person... well, I managed to have 5 party members out of supposed 6.I played bg2 for the first time since I was a kid a few years ago and I hated almost every character in the whole game and the few companions that didn't piss me off kept leaving the party for whatever whim tickled their fancy. I restarted and used all custom characters.

Fair, all the thief characters are ironically "good guys" but even then you don't necessarily need a thief. That's assuming you're a thief. You have the Holy Trinity covered with Viconia, Edwin and Korgan, you can go hog wild.Depends on your class though.lol imagine not doing a 4 man party with the real niggasUnlike original BG, BG2 lacks "evil" or "neutral" characters, everyone is "good" so if you play as a pragmatic (aka "evil") person... well, I managed to have 5 party members out of supposed 6.I played bg2 for the first time since I was a kid a few years ago and I hated almost every character in the whole game and the few companions that didn't piss me off kept leaving the party for whatever whim tickled their fancy. 94% of the IGN users rejected DA:V. You know you fucked up when even the IGN userbase didn't like your slop.
Akshually Gaider wrote Fenris and like almost all of the DA2 companions he sucks. Hepler wrote some of the best parts of DA:O.They had it ok at first but too much canadian faggotry and trying to please every retarded fan that only played these games for the romances is what made them shit. Romances in BG2 went well with the main story, they were also easy to botch and miss for the amount of content they had compared to "I must choose someone from selection of bitches to fuck before the final mission" like in Mass Effect games. Then they started hiring dumbass femoid fanfic sloppers like Hamburger Helper to write edgy anime elves with berserk swords or whiny gay mages.
Something even I, the eternal mealy-mouth, have to admit. "Machiavellian Politics, but with Dwarves", well executed. As a Noble you can even praise your brother's successful takeover.Akshually Gaider wrote Fenris and like almost all of the DA2 companions he sucks. But Anomen and Jan take issue with evil deeds. This whole conversation is based on the infuriating lack of evil party members in BG2. Anomen is a way better character (if you can stomach his personality, though he does get better if he becomes a LG knight). Not to mention that he can tank effectively.
Jan Jansen is another great one. Thief/Illusionist is a very versatile combo.
