Why do people hate the monkey game so much?
What do you mean "people"? The game has more than 80 Metacritic (8.1 for critics, 8.3 for users) and 96% out of 728 799 reviews on Steam are Positive. That's pretty damn good Steam (reviews in particular).

Yeah, but it's not really rated by people, just chinamen.

Why do people hate the monkey game so much?

Game journos* Not people.

In nutshell because is just a game without the bizarre social engineering that the western Baizuos call """progress""" ie - everything against whites, straight, males, etc is good and everything else, "problematic". Western game journos have no problem with literal bestiality in BG3 but get overly butthurt if someone just increases the bust size of some female chars.

I created a python script to "read" the reviews and classify the language usage ( https://pastebin.com/7wQbJNxt ) and spoiler, over 75% of the language of the reviews are Chinese.

But even if lets say 90% of the Monkey game players are Chinese. That still would be a success in the West. as the game had 2,406,967 peak current players. And honestly, I hope that more Asians start to invest into gaming.

Just compare the studios that sold to BlackRock ESG mafia like CDPR with studios that sold to Tencent like Grinding Gear Games. Any shit is better than BlackRock ESG.

This Wukong controversy sounds like that "retort it" deal with the Kotaku journalist who misheard English lyrics with Japanese accent and threw a fit. This time they mistranslated something a Chinese dev said to accuse them of misogyny. The misunderstanding is so stupid it sounds deliberate.

Seems like they're trying to expand their grift business in Asia, so they're flinging random turds hoping one will stick. Once they've got one Asian game successfully boycotted, they can then get hired as consultants to avoid it in the future.

It's organized crime behavior.

Reminder that this game is Mortismal's GOTY. That's the award that matters.
If Mortismal loves it and the mainstream game awards aren't acknowledging it then it must be too much of a hardcore RPG for the normies.

You know, it's kind of a shame because I always liked Mort as a person, mainly for struggling through serious poverty and putting a spotlight on indie games, even if I never cared much for his takes. I subbed from way back when his channel was small and I'd glad for his success ... but I don't think he ever manages to come back from the Veilguard review. Kinda sucks because there's aren't many good reviewers in the CRPG space, particularly since NeverKnowsBest kinda had a bit of a mental breakdown.

It's a bit interesting to look over Mor'ts Steam profile page (which should be public) - https://steamcommunity.com/id/Mortismalgaming/games/?tab=all

100 hours in Veilguard. I can't imagine that's multiple actual full playthroughs, at best we're talking going back to save points and just trying out different routes. It looks like after popping the cherry on endgame he went back to do some companion quests.

There are a couple things to unpack in there, but one thing I notice is 40 hours in Dragon Age Origins. It's fine if you don't jive with Origins, I'm used to his recency bias and Origins is far from perfect, but Origins is a 40 hour game if you straight bumrush it - as in, minimal sidequests, minimal chilling with companion dialogues or their quests, minimal time mulling over the Codex entries or lore, and I would think completely ignoring the DLC. Again, all fine, but it's frankly bizarre to say you love Dragon Age lore and straight bumrush your way through its foundational texts.

Hell, even /r/dragonage has been in an uproar over the way Veilguard fed the lore into a wood chipper. I mean ... all of the Ferelden is just straight wiped out? And the big reveal was that all the games were secretly engineered by Temu Illuminati? Come the fuck on, this is Disney Star Wars levels of hating your own franchise.

I don't think he's trying to lie, or shill. I just think he's dumber than he realizes.

Whatever the case, it just made me go to having absolutely no interest in his reviews. Gonna keep subbed to him since he sometimes brings to my attention games that I wouldn't have been aware of otherwise, but that's about it. No trust in his takes anymore.

Mortismal was always a massive retarded shill who only offers surface level analysis of any games he plays. Like saying oh in this game you have a gun and you can shoot form it and when the bullet touches the enemy the enemy dies. That kind of obvious shit.

He gave starfield a glowing review. He gave veilguard glowing review. No more need to be said.

Any YT reviewers you'd recommend, Ibn Sina? I'm mostly interested in them covering a broad range of CRPG, tactical etc. games and keeping up to date with new releases.

You won't find any good RPG reviewers, its almost non existent except for people like Mortismal. There is splattercatgaming but he isn't a reviewer, he just makes short previews of indie games that includes a lot of tactical and rpg games. He likes rpgs and tactical games in general and feature them a lot in his channel.

Oh you mean the person that got hired to work on a recent triple A game
Yes, exactly. That's the "consulting" business I'm talking about. On one hand these people manufacture outrage on Twitter, on the other hand they get hired to fix the problem they created in the first place. It's grift.

I don't know this YouTube but it should be said that Dragon Age predates Steam, and also there are a few different editions on there

who cares about ferelden? the country we have seen in DA:O consisted of two devastated villages (at least one of them had a windmill, great! those 20 NPCs have to get their bread somewhere) and a capital that's a market place - that looks like it was provisionally solution after a hurricane - and a tavern.

the worldbuilding of this series sucked so much from the beginning. i am glad its gone now.

That particular case isn't really an issue of worldbuilding, but of gameplay abstraction. Same shit as with cities in Oblivion and Skyrim being much smaller than as they're described in the lore.

it's an issue of laziness or inability, or lack of ressources. no matter the reason, all of it is unsatisfying.
and they probably never even thought about creating a believable environment in their game.

oblivion was a disney theme park; skyrim did a lot better, drawing from Morrowind lore and others, even though the game bored me to death for other reasons.

What's wrong with Werglia or RPGDivision? They're pretty solid vatniks (?) most of the time. Although I suppose they aren't really reviewer reviewers but mostly build/walkthrough types.

Yeah Mortismal used to be quite comfy to watch, simple but hearty fare; but he's really shat the bed with his veilguard review IMHO.

Come on, no videogame will withstand that kind of scrutiny.

It's an issue of priorities and suspension of disbelief.
