Reminder that this game is Mortismal's GOTY. That's the award that matters.
If Mortismal loves it and the mainstream game awards aren't acknowledging it then it must be too much of a hardcore RPG for the normies.

It's the normies who acknowledge that Veilguard isn't a Dragon Age game (or, at least, was not made for Dragon Age fans) nor is an RPG (not even if the simplified manner) and is a linear action game with RPG elements instead.

So it's puzzling to hear that Mortismal supposedly replayed the game a few times and "loves the lore" and still didn't pick up on how much of the lore was butchered as well as how little your choices actually matter. At that point I don't find the guy credible at all (and I am not even talking about the writing or combat here, mind you, just C&C and lore).

I've been inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt (and haven't watched his DAV review, because seriously, fuck this game), but it's weird how defensive he got about people shitting on the game as well.

Been watching a bit of gameplay on this, since I am never touching it. Good lord, it's so much worse than I imagined. Taash is like kryptonite to me. I hate everything about this character. The obnoxious, ugly face. The cursed millennial attitude of an adult child. Starting a conversation with "so...i'm non-binary". A codex entry about them full of phrases like "trans women ARE women" and "demigender/bigender/agender".

My, how the Qunari have fallen. Where once we had the based chad known as Sten, who told women they shouldn't be fighting, now we have...Taash, who will gladly inform you that they don't know their own gender.

He went full shill. I simply cannot believe that his overly positive review of the game was done in good faith. Leniency can only go so far.

If I recall correctly, guy was a latecomer to the franchise and he didn't particularly like Origins either. So he either doesn't remember or doesn't care about it too much.

Imagine being Mortismal, having to (pretend to) play shitty RPGs all the way through because it's your job and part of your brand. I'd end up finding another hobby.

How many times did this guy think 'fuck my life' while playing a crap game just to review it? He's probably learned to dissociate like a trauma victim by now.

His Veilguard review was weirdly focused on pointless mechanical minutiae like the details of the skill tree. It's probably not just because he's a shill, but also because he's dead inside and can't enjoy games anymore.

After saying Veilguard is GOTY anything he says is automatically suspect.

It's like somebody sitting at dinner with parents and dropping an atom bomb "So, I am gay" right away. Even the game itself acknowledges this as WTF moment, because everyone at the table looks at Taash in surprise. But it gets even better, because when her mom actually tries to understand what that means (since she's a Qunari in a medieval fantasy setting) she gets "WHY CAN'T YOU BE HAPPY FOR ME?!!!101" response. It is all so incredibly dumb it's beautiful. Taash using "caveman speak" in the codex entry is a cherry on top. And this was written or approved by the People of the Alphabet? You really couldn't make a worse impression on people even if you tried.

That could've been an excuse had he not said that he (and I quote) "loves the lore" and is a fan of Dragon Age's universe. In my opinion you can't really say that and not see all the damage done to the franchise by Veilguard (which is also pointed out by by multiple YouTubers, who made videos exclusively about that).

Frankly, had he just played a few hours I wouldn't be surprised with him having a good opinion of the game. Many reviewers said that the combat is nice until you play 6-10 hours. Then it becomes a boring slog, because enemies are identical and you don't really change the playstyle throughout the game. But playing it to completion (and by that I don't mean merely winning the game, but doing all quests, side quests, achievements, etc.) and doing few playthroughs, specifically to check out the outcomes of different choices? This would be an enormous amount of combat. Yeah, that's fishy. Or maybe he is that shallow (which still doesn't help his case)?

Yeah not sure why he went there. I guess if the only other game you played is Concord maybe I'd accept it being your personal GOTY but Mortisimal literally plays dozens of games every year...

No way, Concord looked solid except for the character graphics.
I tried the demo and it was extremely lacklustre at best...the character graphics were just the equivalent of pouring piss over a turd.

Veilguard doesn't really look any better but at least it hasn't been deleted from history yet.

Fair, I haven't played or paid much attention to either. But...

Doesn't that still make Concord better since it had the good taste to fuck off instead of lingering like a bad smell?

Well it's Apples and Oranges really - Concord sold so badly they were better off shutting it down than wasting money maintaining servers and support for something no one wanted. For a poorly received single player game you might as well keep what little money it makes than writing it off entirely as there are no real running costs associated with it after you release the obligatory patch or two.
