I'm gonna farm so many shit ratings my account will be considered a holy river in the Hindu religion. But I stand by it. Man was not meant to game on a typewriter.

There are some games that just play better with a console controller, I use one all the time for them. But no idea about the Dragon Age series, I just could not get into it.

Dragon Age Origin is fucking terrible on a controller. It didn’t need to be, (Knights of the Old Republic worked just fine on a controller) but BioWare redid the combat to function more like an action game and what they turned out ended up playing like a terrible action game. But it sold better than the PC version, which is probably why Dragon Age 2 went the way it did with its combat system. Console Origin feels like an even worse version of Dragon Age 2 combat.

I thought DA2 combat was actually pretty good. it's just a better version of Origins combat.

There's actually not a hell of a lot wrong with what BioWare did in terms of combat throughout their games. They'd been fishing around for a more action-ey combat style since KOTOR and they'd tried various angles, sometimes failing (NWN/2 control systems) sometimes succeeding (DA2/DAI).

NWN and KOTOR have a far more preferable style of combat than DA2/DAI. KOTOR's combat animations look orders of magnitude better than DA2/DAI's generic slashing in the vague direction of the enemy.

I'm talking about in terms of end user use (non-clunkiness). NWN/2 are terrible to control.

Now that you mention it, the C&C in DA2 is pretty underrated, but same goes for Origins. Not that having better C&C than average in cRPGs is anything to write home about anyway.

Not an awesome RPG but it's a good storyfag Bioware game.

You wanna hate on DA2 for the combat, level design, graphix or streamlined RPG elements? Fine but then you have to hate on ALL their games because those things are garbage in everything they've ever done outside BG1/2. Or anyone enjoyed the "level design" or the shitty RTwP combat in Origins? Raise your hand so I can chop it off.

The writing is what matters and DA2 is still the good ol' Bioware stuff. The practice of "pre-criming" mages is one of the best dilemmas in all vidya.

Went and checked SteamDB. Filtering out games with less than 2k reviews and cheaper than 19 bucks (in order to get all the "bigger" titles and avoid ones hard to compare with), Veilguard is the 114th best reviewed title released on Steam this year. 114 out of 150. If I widen the search to everything more expensive than 9 and with 1k reviews, it's 344th out of 418. People in general simply don't like this game.

And thank fuck for that.
