Focusing on the open world aspect is the worst thing they could possibly do. DD has strong gameplay systems and great combat and atmosphere, they should focus on that instead. More combat options, more classes, more original monster designs instead of palette swaps. Fuck this open world shit.
That's not what I meant. Either way they're going to do more combat options and all that stuff. That's just what the game is.
Let me put it a different way. One way I could see it going is basically something like Dragon's Dogma Mount & Blade/Kindgom Under Fire/Nobunaga's Ambition. Something where they expand on the idea of some of those larger battles you could get into by letting you have control over armies. So something where you can get into big battles in open areas between the smaller party of four dungeon stuff. Expand on the idea of clearing mines out to become working mines, (like with the Abandoned Mine in this game) it'd be better if you could just run mines as opposed to only mining yourself. Maybe run a town (or towns) yourself; there's that bit at the beginning of DD where someone says something about improving the road out of Cassardis, now the game does that itself, but it'd be interesting if you actually had control over that; in the GDC Dragon's Dogma video Hideaki Itsuno does say he wants to make a sim game, and talks about how he's playing a lot of SimCity and A-Train. Add in some ways to get around faster like horses and ships.
The totally opposite way I could see it going, that'd still be in line with the openworld day/night cycle hack and slash of the orgianl game is, is you've just got one city and you've basically got a way bigger Everfall in the middle of it. So there's one giant open dungeon you're going down into, with more tightly packed enemy encounters like a normal hack and slash, (like a Diablo has) with more normal dungeons to go into within it. So something like Made in Abyss the video game.
If they do do a Dragon's Dogma 2, I wouldn't be too surprised if classes were something you could switch on the fly. It's almost kind of weird you couldn't do that in this game given its something they just
Would be nice if weapon skills could cross between classes too, like Augments can. So say you're strong enough, you could do something like the Skyward Lash or Helm Splitter as a Warrior with a longsword. The Helm Splitter being one of Gut's moves from Berserk, it'd make sense to let you be able to do it with the longsword if you're powerful enough. Would be nice if you could change up secondary weapons or whatever within the classes too.
Given its Capcom, wouldn't be surprised if in a future Dragon's Dogma (beside stuff that's been in DDOnline) we saw:
- Some kind of JoJo Stand like class. Either as it's own class or some special supplement to all the other classes giving you more powerful versions of whatever class's skills you've got...think something like
Nobunaga in Sengoku BASARA. Almost surprised there's no Stand like thing in DDOline given it's something some spells in their Dungeons and Dragons games have, and how it finds its away into a number of Capcom games.
- Some kind of Lance class that invokes Ghost and Goblins.
- Some kind of magic user class akin to Dr. Strange in the MVC games.
- Stuff drawing on Sengoku BASARA characters like
Oichi,
Yoshitsugu Otani,
Magoichi Saika, and
Hideyoshi Toyotomi
- Some classes based on Berserk characters that didn't make the cut before like Griffith and Silat
- Some kind of boxing and wrestling stuff that's either its own class or kicks in when unarmed.
- A double axe or hammer class along the lines of the Dwarf in Dragon's Crown
Wouldn't be too surprised if there was something like the Berserker Armor that acted like a Devil Trigger too.
